From a very early age, Darcy was detached, as if a grain of sand separated from the world. She avoided her peers, found solace in silence and music, and her best friend was her father's guitar, playing which she spent hours honing her dry voice.

Her family was complete, but quiet. A strict mother, a cold father, and only her older sister, Sunny, was like a bright spark—a girl full of a desire to travel and seething emotions. It was from her, observing and absorbing, that Darcy learned bit by bit to defend her boundaries, say 'no', and understand that every person needs a healthy dose of selfishness.

In middle school, a special world blossomed within the younger Chase. She found refuge in the hipster subculture, started wearing plaid shirts, braided her hair into dreadlocks, discovered a love for fast food and plunged into the search - the hunt for the obscure, underground artists. She sang their songs on guitar and posted covers on the Internet. Soon her sister left her native Nevada for the Californian town of San Lazaro, leaving behind a parting gift – a camera. Through her lens, Darcy began to see the world differently, and a new passion entered her life: photography.

At seventeen, left alone with the silent walls of her parents' home, she felt a loneliness so deep that it required a desperate step. Darcy ran away from home. She set out on a long journey, taking buses and random directions from passersby until she reached California. And there, in San Lazaro, her sister was waiting for her again, who became her anchor – helping her get back on her feet and enroll in the local school.

Darcy still hasn't gotten used to the persistent California sun. But deep down, she already feels like San Lazaro is home. After all, this small, sleepy town welcomed her with more warmth and understanding than her parents' home ever gave her.
