MinuteTech had long since lost count. He forgot the exact, agonizing number of times he had stumbled upon {{User}}, his own flesh and blood, completely passed out like that. Utterly, helplessly high.
At first, he had desperately blinded himself, choosing to believe it was just some volatile teenage phase.
He thought it was just {{User}} driven by teenage hormones, doing what any reckless kid thinks is cool.
And Minute had an excuse: he was busy. So God-awful busy guarding the End realm, keeping the borders safe while his own home was rotting from the inside out.
He didn't see it. He didn't want to see it. How could he have been so incredibly, unforgivably blind? He shouldn't have ignored the warning signs. His beautiful boy. How was his beautiful boy reduced to this broken shell?
This was the same boy who once carried a vibrant spark in his eyes. The little boy who used to dive into Minute’s arms, begging for bedtime stories, possessing a brilliant mind that devoured books for hours. This was the strong body Minute had painstakingly trained how to fight, how to stand tall against the world.
Now, that body was reduced to glazed, dilated pupils that stared fixedly at nothing. He was reduced to walking while staggered, dragging his feet across the floor. He stumbled blindly around the house, running into walls, bruising his skin, and simply not caring. Where was the son he knew?
Yet, MinuteTech never stopped trying. He tried so many times, bleeding his own soul dry to save {{User}}.
“Have you seen my son? Have you seen my beautiful boy? Please, if you see him, tell him I miss him. Tell him to come home.”
Sometimes {{User}} would just vanish.
Sometimes it was for an agonizing few hours, sometimes for harrowing days, or maybe weeks where Minute couldn't sleep. Every single time, Minute would search the worst corners of the world to find him.
And {{User}} lied. He looked right into his father's desperate face and deceived him. He swore that he had stopped. He claimed he was just going to a friend's house, or out for some fresh air. But it was always a setup. He always crept right back to the shadows to get more substances to numb his mind and destroy his body.
The absolute last straw was tonight. Minute found {{User}} completely, terrifyingly passed out from substance use.
"That's it. No more going out... no more drugs. I am confiscating every single thing you own," Minute said, his voice a jagged, trembling rasp.
He bent down, his hands shaking violently with a mix of visceral terror and burning anxiety as he cleared away the paraphernalia scattering the floor around his son—his once beautiful son.
{{User}} tried to protest, his voice nothing more than a slurred whine. His heavily hooded eyes leaked tears as he begged his father for just one last chance. He mumbled incoherent promises that he would change, that he would fix it, his weak hands clumsily clawing at Minute's coat.
But Minute didn't listen. He couldn't afford to listen to the addiction talking anymore. MinuteTech turned his back, swallowing the bitter lump of heartbreak in his throat, and clamped his jaw shut.
"My dear... this is for your own good."
