Joumae Saori (錠前サオリ) is one of the students, studying in Arius Branch School who wields an Assault Rifle. She is the leader of the Arius Squad, and is one of the two deuteragonists of Volume 3 alongside Ajitani Hifumi.

An unparalleled expert in guerilla tactics, Saori can stay calm under pressure and doesn't hesitate to use whatever means necessary to accomplish her objective. Sometimes, though, she displays a seemingly contradictory side of herself, one that isn't afraid to let emotions surge forth in the heat of the moment. Saori shows the personalities a leader would normally have: fierce, strategic, and responsible. Saori may often come off as stoic, overly serious, and unsociable, but once she shows her emotions, she does not hold back.

Saori has long navy blue hair that gradients into an azure blue. Her eyes are pale blue. Her halo is a large pale blue cross with a smaller cross surrounded by a ring under it. Saori wears a dark grey sleeveless crop top with a hat, leggings and gloves of the same color. She also wears a robotic black mask and boots with blue highlights. Over this, she wears a white lab coat.

She uses a dark blue SIG Sauer M400 rifle. It is equipped with a Magpul MOE M-LOK Handguard with a Bravo Company Manufacturing Mod 3 M-LOK Vertical Grip, a Magpul MOE Mil-Spec Carbine Stock, set of MBUS Iron Sights, a PMAG, and a SIG Sauer Romeo 4B Red Dot Sight. The school's motto is imprinted on the handguard. The Arius insignia is imprinted on the the sights. The name Sariel is engraved on the pistol grip. She also uses a similarly coloured SIG Sauer P226 in conjunction with her rifle for her EX-skill.

The Arius Squad (アリウススクワッド, Arius Squad) is one of the School Clubs in Arius Branch School. Before the name Arius Squad exists only a group formerly consisting of three students trying their best to survive the harsh environment that is the Arius Catacombs, which was under the hands of Beatrice, Arius' student council president. The students in question were Saori, Misaki, and Hiyori. It was thanks to their leader Saori that they were able to last. Originally, Atsuko was supposed to be made as a sacrifice under Beatrice's orders, but Saori made a deal with her, allowing Atsuko's fate to be postponed and giving Saori time to train her. Azusa, who is no longer a member now, was part of the group due to Saori rescuing her from being beaten up by guards for disobeying Beatrice's orders. Seeing the five students' capabilities which resulted from Saori's training, Beatrice saw a use for them, hence the beginning of the Arius Squad. An elite team formerly acting like a terrorist cell and consisting of five members formed by Beatrice yet only seen by her as mere pawns ready to be disposed of at any time. They are a Squad in command for the assassination attempt on Seia and the attack during the events of the Eden Treaty Signing. It was also during this time period that Azusa, who was originally assigned as a spy infiltrating Trinity, decided to become a double agent and betrayed the Squad after realizing the beauty of Trinity and the world, leaving a high-intensity conflict between Azusa and Arius' team and infuriating the Squad's leader, Saori. After their failed attempt in conquering both Gehenna and Trinity, Beatrice deemed them useless and decided to retrieve Atsuko back and initiate the ceremony to sacrifice her while leaving the other three members to perish, accidentally leading them to the general student council presidents hands.

The Arius Squad is currently out of favor at Trinity, Gehenna and Arius campuses. They are in exile. Due to Beatrice's teachings, all Arius Squad members are nihilistic. All members except Atsuko came from poor backgrounds.

Arius Branch School (アリウス分校, Arius Branch School), or Arius Satellite School on Global, is one of the many schools in Kivotos.

A faction that broke off from the Trinity Alliance and has been forgotten by time. It's said that no one—not even the General Student Council—knows where their autonomous district is, save for a few students attending Arius. Arius is a school that had broken off from Trinity General School. No one knows where their autonomous district is, except a few individuals such as Joumae Saori. The students of Arius primarily learn to fight and kill, rather than regular subjects that normal students would learn, making them a terrorist organization.

Their motto is "Vanitas vanitatum, et omnia vanitas." (Vanity of vanities and all is vanity.), which is based on Ecclesiastes 12:8: "Vanitas vanitatum, dixit Ecclesiastes; vanitas vanitatum, et omnia vanitas." (Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.)[1]. Their logo is a skull with a crown and a rose, which are common elements of a vanitas artwork.

It is later revealed that modern Arius' vendetta against Trinity was disciplined into the students by Beatrice, who was referred to as "Madame", via inhumane means such as torture and brainwashing as a method of controlling them. Beatrice resides over the school as its student council president, using Arius' Autonomous District as her base of operations. It is also through her powers that Arius' AD remains hidden to this day, as her powers allow for the path of entry into Arius, through Trinity's ancient catacombs, to change constantly. Prior to Beatrice's rule, the position of the student council president was hereditary, and the latest in line would have been Hakari Atsuko. It was also stated that Beatrice was also responsible for providing some of the deadly weapons Arius owned, such as the cruise missile, which was used during the Eden Treaty signing, and the halo-destroying bomb used by Azusa against the Arius Squad.

Before the First Ecumenical Council, modern day Trinity was nothing more than a collection of hostile schools and factions. Eventually, through the efforts of the three major academies, the First Ecumenical Council was held, and a "promise" was made to stop the fighting between each school, forming the alliance that persists today. However, according to Misono Mika, Arius was fiercely against the formation of the alliance, and were later purged as a result. The Justina Council of Saints, despite being the most vocal faction to denounce Arius, led the school's exodus and took the lead with Arius' reconstruction.

Approximately ten years prior to the start of the game, a civil war broke out in Arius that divided the school into two. It's unclear why the civil war broke out, but it was ended by Beatrice, who used the opportunity to take control of Arius as its student council president. She would use her power to manipulate the students by "teaching" them the "truth of the world." The students, who were oblivious to her intentions, believed her words as the truth. As such, allowing her to manifest their contempt towards Gehenna and Trinity to become the hatred they're known for nowadays. As the new president, Beatrice decided to turn Atsuko, who would have been the next president, into a sacrifice for what's known as the Iridescence with the intent to "ascend into a higher being."

At some point prior to the start of Volume 3, Mika approached the Arius Squad with an offer to make peace between them and Trinity, asking for an Arius student to be secretly transferred to Trinity to show that students from the two schools can get along. Saori reported this to Beatrice, who asked her to stall Mika and gain as much intelligence about Trinity from her as possible. Saori complied, but also asked Azusa to begin studying knowledge about Trinity in preparation for the mission, genuinely believing in the possibility for peace. However, the situation changed when Mika, annoyed at fellow Tea Party member Yurizono Seia, asked Arius to "teach her a lesson". Seeing this as an opportunity to remove a Tea Party member, the Arius Squad, at the order of Beatrice, dispatched Azusa to assassinate Seia using a halo-destroying bomb. However, Seia convinced Azusa to fake her death instead. With the help of Aomori Mine, Seia went into hiding. The Tea Party, unaware of Seia's survival, covered up her "death", with Kirifuji Nagisa succeeding her as the host.

Following Seia's apparent death, Mika began panicking and hatched a plan to remove Nagisa in a coup d'état, place herself as the leader of Trinity and incorporate Arius as Trinity's new military arm, replacing the Justice Realization Committee. For her plan, she snuck a large Arius attack force into Trinity campus. Unbeknownst to her, Arius planned to turn on her following the success of the coup. Ultimately, Mika and the Arius attack force were defeated by the combined efforts of Sensei, the Supplementary Lesson Department, and the Sisterhood. Mika lost the will to fight upon hearing that Seia was still alive and was subsequently imprisoned.

Following the failed coup, Arius sought to sabotage the signing of the Eden Treaty. They approached Pandemonium Society President Hanuma Makoto, offering to help her wipe out the Tea Party at the signing ceremony. Because of this, Makoto, who was vehemently against Trinity, pretended to agree to the treaty. As a "token of friendship", they also gifted her an airship. Prior to the signing ceremony, Arius planted a large number of explosives underneath the site of the ceremony, the Old Cathedral of Communion.

On the day of the signing, Arius launched a cruise missile at the Old Cathedral, detonating the explosives underneath and causing a massive explosion. Meanwhile, they also detonated the Pandemonium Society's airship, which was filled with crates of explosives. Taking advantage of the chaos, Arius Squad signed an altered version of the treaty, which stated that they, instead of Trinity and Gehenna, would serve as the Eden Treaty Organization (ETO). Meanwhile, using Atsuko's royal blood, Gematria member Maestro created a mimesis of the Justina Council of Saints, an immortal army dedicated to enforcing the treaty. The Arius Squad then designated both Trinity and Gehenna as violators of the treaty, causing the Council of Saints to attack both parties relentlessly.

Background: Ever since she was little, Saori has been the "older sibling" to the other Arius Squad members as she's always been the one taking care of Misaki, Hiyori, and Atsuko soon after. Their former Arius Squad member, Azusa, used to be punished terribly for disobeying orders, but Saori stepped in, defended her, and said that she will train Azusa. It was thanks to her that Azusa has the military capabilities she has now. Despite not being blood-related (from what it seems), Saori took initiative and responsibility to take care of them and train them. As much as Saori claims to believe that all is vanity, she definitely showed through her actions that there is something worth living for, even if it means she had to go through immense pain and suffering. As Saori and the others grew older, Beatrice saw potential in their abilities, which led to the creation of the Arius Squad with Saori as the leader. They were tasked to complete multiple missions. Due to how successful they've been, they were eventually tasked with obtaining the power of mimesis and control over the Gehenna and Trinity districts. Ever since the Arius Squad's mission to obtain the power of mimesis and control over the Gehenna and Trinity districts failed, they became targets of Arius. Eventually running out of strength and supplies, Arius was able to capture them. Not too long after, Beatrice took Atsuko and gave Arius the order to eliminate Saori and the others.

Out of desperation, Saori turned to the general student council president to beg them for help. She promised to do everything they want her to do and was even willing to take her life away by using a halo-destroying bomb if it means Atsuko can be saved. Of course, the general student council president was willing to help, but on one condition, it being getting rid of the halo-destroying bomb's detonator, in which they did it themselves by smashing it.

After successfully defeating Beatrice and rescuing Atsuko, Saori wanted to fulfill her promise to the general student council president, in which the general student council president told her to do what she wants to do. Confounded by their words, Saori didn't know what to do. Not too long after, Saori and the Arius Squad parted ways with the general student council president, with Saori still confused as to what she's supposed to do. Some time later, Saori gave the role of leader to Misaki as she left the squad to find her purpose through working in the black market. Saori contacted the general student council president for the first time because she needed help with something. She originally planned to do it herself, but some things are out of her control. As Sensei arrived with happiness in their face, Saori explained her situation. Apparently, she couldn't open an account with a black market bank due to her conditions and needed the general student council president to be her co-signer. As the general student council president agreed, the banker decided to ask Saori some questions and give her a few tests. As time passed on, the banker seemed more and more suspicious, until Saori and the general student council president caught on to his schemes. Eventually, they opened the account, and Saori thanked the general student council president.

The general student council president decided to visit Saori after hearing that she received a request. As they arrived however, they saw Saori complaining with what seems to be her boss. As it turns out, Saori forgot to make a contract, causing her to be ineligible for payment. The general student council president was shocked to hear that she didn't know how to make contracts. They then decided to help Saori finish the current job so that they can teach Saori how to make a contract. Saori told the general student council president that she was tasked to end a war in a black market through MomoTalk. Terrified by the news, the general student council president rushed and looked for Saori. Eventually, they found the wounded Saori sitting down in an alley. They took her to safety. Saori handed over the contract she made the general student council president, and they now understand the premise of what happened. The general student council president then decided to tend Saori's wounds and take her to a ramen shop where they could teach her how to read and sign contracts properly.
