Atlantis Lore: About 20,000 years ago, a massive asteroid came down onto Earth, causing an underwater landmass (Atlantis) to resurface. Atlantis is an island off the coast of West Africa, shaped like a boomerang.

About 1400 years ago, the Basque peoples of Spain migrated and found Atlantis, becoming the native population. When Columbus sailed in 1492, he found Atlantis instead of America. He settled there, and eventually, the British would take Atlantis during the War of the Spanish Succession, as well as colonising the Thirteen Colonies, originally. After the American Revolution, Atlantis was incorporated as a state in 1901, WAY earlier than the western states (since America failed Manifest Destiny in the early 1840s, and only went back in after the Mexican Empire collapsed, causing the western states to be way less co-operative with the central government.)

It was a former state of the US, up until 1985. It exists as an independent Republic as of 1990.

Europe Lore

In Europe, the major divergence is that World War One ended in a stalemate, after America withdrew their forces. Germany would then integrate Austria, Bohemia, Wartheland, Lower Styria, Upper Carinola, parts of Carinthia, and parts of Podlaskie Vovoideship into Germany, after a trade deal with the Russian Empire before it collapsed into a warlord era.

Germany would then dominate the continent. America would try to establish a European hegemony in 1941 during the Jutland War, however, by 1943, Germany had developed atomic bombs, and used them on the USS Lexington while it was in Kiel. This caused America to be permanently kicked out of all European affairs.

From the 1960s till the modern day, Germany was (and still is) in an active golden age. In 1965, after the Hohenzollern Dynasty finally ended, Kaiser Wilhelm III made a referendum for democracy, establishing the Großgermanische Republik (GGR). This democracy would be headed by Konrad Adenauer ( 1965 - 1975 ), as the GGR's constitution allowed for three terms before political withdrawal (Adenauer terms were: 1965 - 1968 , 1968 - 1972 , 1972 - 1975 ), before Hans Schonhuber took control in early 1980. During Hans' term, a revolutionary new discovery was made in the Technologie-Institut Berlin.

The internet.

The internet was only available in Germany for the time being, however, soon, the first country that got it was Hungary. Eventually, the internet spread to all corners of the world, except the Chinese influenced areas, as it was replaced by local intranets.

Russia, meanwhile, had gone to war with Germany in 1974 and lost, losing Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania. Latvia and Estonia had broken off from Russia in 1976.

The Balkans is dominated mainly by Yugoslavia, which maintained status by making Post-Tito reforms, incase he died. Infact, Yugoslavia actually stays together in the modern day.

Western Europe is under the Europakt, a German led economic and military organisation. France lost Alsace, however soon quelled internal extremists and aligned itself with the Europakt. Italy got their desired territories after WW1, so Mussolini never actually took power, remaining a minority. Spain was couped by socialists in 1945, and Portugal was as well, creating an Iberian socialist pact. Because the Basque region in Spain was mostly uninhabited, it was mainly colonised by Spanish migrants.

African Lore

Absolute hell. That is the word I can only use to describe West and Central Africa. After the gradually decolonisation of Africa, the new nations were extremely weak in governance, and often turned to brutal dictatorships, with Germany even having to intervene at some point. To make matters worse, Francisco Macias Nguema, one of the WORST people to ever exist, took over Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, creating a literal fifth world country, abolishing industry and making the country into a massive prison. Germany eventually had to invade and occupy the two nations for a while.

Southern Africa is a bit better, mainly in the South African sphere, however still under a military Junta, being one of the major players of the Cold War. Rhodesia, Zambia, Mozambique, and Angola are in the Southern African Unity Pact, which ensures a defense for it's members.

West Africa has been embroiled in a massive war spanning most the region, with Sokoto, Nigeria, and Dahomey (Benin) going up against Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. The conflict still rages on.

ASIAN LORE

The Asian front diverged when, during the Russian Civil War, Japan occupied Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, and Birobidzhan. After the Qing Dynasty collapsed, Japan captured Beijing, and so held the rite over Chinese reunification.

China itself was divided up until early 1954. Then, the Liangguang Clique, advocating for democracy, reunified the nation. It aligned towards Japan for it's own natural protection. In early 1979, it would get into conflict with India, and India won, so China had to leave Tibet alone.

South Asia is divided between India and China. The two nations actually dealt with the Jammu-Kashmir border dispute, and so made up with eachother.

The middle east is in a tug between Turkey and Iran, with Turkey taking Northern Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan, having kept the majority of the Ottoman Empire by going into a federation, with Syria, Iran, Israel, and Jordan. Iran leads a separate alliance, consisting of Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Oman, and Yemen. The UAE keeps itself neutral.

In South East Asia, Vietnam invaded Laos as well, and is under a Khmer Rouge style regime. Cambodia, Burma, and Thailand have joined the Japanese sphere to repel Vietnam, with Indonesia and Malaysia joining. Australia also provides support.

American Lore

The United States of America only did Manifest Destiny in the early 1880s, instead of the 1840s. As a result, the US West was much more rowdy, with tax dodging common.

When the Great Depression hit in 1929, the US was the hardest hit. However.. Europe wasn't. It had broken off from the main New York Stock Exchange, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 65.22, the absolute lowest ever recorded for a close.

Fast forward to the early 60s, a mass secession crisis resulted in California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Texas, and Florida to secede, and in 1985, the DC government's attempt at reclamation caused a civil war, plunging the United States into crisis which endures to the modern day.

The rest of North America is very different. Canada holds Alaska (seized after the US Civil War began), and Mexico consolidated Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. El Salvador stayed alive, and Colombia invaded Costa Rica.

The Caribbean is split between Cuba and the West Indies Federation, with the latter controlling the US state of Puerto Rico.

South America is mainly dominated by Colombia, who consolidated control over Panama, and installed a puppet government in Costa Rica. Ecuador and Venezuela got their independence, and Peru is communist. Brazil maintained control over Uruguay, Paraguay got a coastline because of Argentina, Chile was integrated into both Bolivia and Argentina, and Argentina got fucked over after the Falklands war.
