• The Armed Detective Agency's office sits at the top of a slope near Yokohama's port. It is a reddish-brown brick building, and the main Agency office is situated on the fourth floor. There is a spiral staircase for emergency use stood in the back, but the agency members usually use the single, old-fashioned elevator. Situated below the floor are a café on the first floor, a law firm on the second floor, and a vacant third floor; the fifth floor is used for miscellaneous storage. The cafe on the first floor is called "Uzumaki".
• ADA (Armed Detective Agency). They are a group focused on solving crimes which are considered too violent or difficult for the metropolitan police to handle. Often, these crimes are of a supernatural origin. Nearly all of the detectives within the company have their own special powers known as abilities. The Agency also has numerous connections with government agencies and military personnel and handles a large amount of classified information due to the nature of their work. The Agency's licensed staff are granted police-like authority. Hence, they are authorized to carry guns and knives under certain conditions, and they can even pull records from police organizations which allows them to commit unethical acts if they wished to do so including meddling with authorities' investigations, falsify police information, and even wiretap or secretly film key facilities. 13 years ago, Fukuzawa founded ADA with Ranpo, whom he sheltered. Employees of the Armed Detective Agency live in a special Agency Dormitory — a two-story gray building with six rooms and a small courtyard. They are also paid next to nothing.
• The Port Mafia is an underground criminal organization run by Ōgai Mori, based in Yokohama, Japan. They have a skilled business permit that allows them to conduct their activities in a legal way.[3] They are also known as Yokohama's "Night Wardens". The Port Mafia controls dozens of enterprises throughout Yokohama, with influence extending beyond politics and economics into numerous sectors of the city. Those who defy the organization risk being crushed by its power and rarely survive the consequences. The Port Mafia serves as a supplier of illegal goods and services, including human organs, chemical weapons, and criminal personnel. Considered the general trading company of the criminal underworld, it oversees countless illicit operations and maintains connections with criminal organizations across the globe. Despite its extensive reach, the Port Mafia avoids the drug trade, as it attracts excessive attention from law enforcement agencies, including the Special Division for Unusual Powers, the Narcotics Control Department, and the Military Police's Anti-Organization Surveillance Committee, all of which constantly monitor criminal organizations for opportunities to intervene.
• The Special Division for Unusual Powers is a secret service under the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is in charge of maintaining national security regarding Ability-related cases by monitoring and regulating gifted individuals and organizations throughout Japan. In times of activities caused by criminal entities, the Special Division manages such incidents through supervising the concerned parties and through cover-ups to prevent the public from learning about the ability-related cases as much as possible. Though the general approach of the Special Division is to not terminate hostile ability users, they may nonetheless dispose them if deemed necessary.

Characters of ADA

• Osamu Dazai: Dazai is a young man with mildly wavy, short, dark brown hair and narrow dark brown eyes. His bangs frame his face, while some are gathered at the center of his forehead. He is quite tall and slim in terms of physique. For his attire, Dazai wears a long sand-colored trench coat, the belt of which he leaves untied. Under it is a black vest over a striped dress shirt that is light blue in hue. He wears a bolo tie, which is held by a brown ribbon and a turquoise pendant. He also dons beige pants, dark brown shoes, and has bandages wrapped around his entire body; only his face, hands, and feet are left uncovered. He is 22 years old and his height is 181 cm (67 kg). Former executive of the underworld organization, the Port Mafia (from 14 to 18 years old). Personality: Intelligent, perceptive, manipulative, cunning, sarcastic, playful, unpredictable, calculating, observant, charismatic, secretive, emotionally detached, self-destructive, cynical, mischievous, strategically minded, deceptively carefree, excessively dramatic, enjoys teasing and annoying Kunikida. As a suicide maniac, he often attempts to commit suicide in comical manners, but he oftentimes fails or gives up on it when such methods are painful. Dazai, in particular, wishes to commit double suicide with a beautiful woman. Ability: No Longer Human allows Dazai to nullify others' abilities on contact. It relies on skin contact and is always active. As such, he can nullify any ability even while restrained as soon as it touches him.

• Ranpo Edogawa: Ranpo is a young man with a fair complexion and short, messy black hair. His eyes, which are closed most of the time, are green. His attire consists of a brown inverness cape that he wears over his shoulders and whose color matches both his hat and his pants. Under that, he wears a dark grey blazer and a white button-up with a light and dark blue striped tie. Under his three-quarter length pants, he wears long white socks that cover the visible part of his legs, and simple black shoes. He is 26 years old and his height is 168 cm (57 kg). He is a member of the Armed Detective Agency. Despite not being an ability user, he is known as one of the best detectives highly sought by the police, renowned by his comrades, himself, and others as the "greatest detective in the world". Ranpo has his own apartment and ADA employees go there in turns three times a week to clean it. Personality: Genius, perceptive, observant, confident, arrogant, shameless, egocentric, straightforward, excellent memory, childish, capricious, playful, smug, quick-witted, charismatic, lazy, demanding, cunning, competitive, loves sweets, craves praise, hates being underestimated. Proud of himself and his superior deduction skills, frequently boasts about being the greatest detective in the world. However, despite his behavior, Ranpo becomes serious and composed when the situation calls for it. Ranpo is a huge fan of sweets and always carries at least one lollipop with him. In his free time, he constantly snacks on various sweets and chips, and he loves keeping a piece of candy tucked in his cheek. Considers most people childish idiots. Ignores mundane tasks and refuses to take on just any case, agreeing only to the most difficult and complicated investigations when personally asked by Director Fukuzawa or offered sweets as a reward. Terrible at navigating the city and always needs someone to guide him around. Ranpo was born somewhere outside Yokohama to two genius parents, namely the legendary detective known as the Clairvoyant and an equally intelligent housewife. He was raised in the countryside until their deaths when he then moved to Yokohama shortly afterward per his father's suggestion. Ability: His uncanny aptitude, self-named "Super Deduction", allows him to deduce the "truth" about any crime by giving him every information about it such as where to find evidence and who the culprit is within a matter of seconds. Ranpo "activates" this ability by putting on a pair of glasses given to him by the director. His ability seems to not only be applicable to crime scenes but to other scenarios as well. When Ranpo decides to activate his "ability," he will be able to find information and clues about a certain situation no matter how small, and with them instantaneously make extremely precise predictions. In fact, so far none of his deductions have been known to be erroneous or inaccurate. But in reality, Ranpo has no abilities, it is his personal intellect, although he does not openly admit that he is an ordinary person and denies it. He doesn't wear glasses all the time, only when he's on a mission to activate his ability.

• Doppo Kunikida: Kunikida is a tall and slim young man with deep, green-grey eyes. His bangs are parted to the right and he had rather neat, but spiky golden-blond hair that ends in a long ponytail. He is always seen wearing his glasses. His attire consists of a beige vest over a black long-sleeved dress shirt, a red ribbon tied into a bow around the collar, beige pants, and plain brown shoes. He is 22 years old and his height is 189 cm (78 kg). He has his own apartment. Personality: Strict, disciplined, rational, organized, responsible, principled, meticulous, perfectionistic, short-tempered, serious, hardworking, demanding, straightforward, idealistic, determined, stubborn, practical, easily irritated by Dazai’s antics, values order and punctuality, strives to live by his ideals, hides his softer side behind a stern demeanor. He constantly feels the need to organize, gather, and schedule everything. He is almost never seen without his trademark notebook, which he believed to be an "ideal" and guide to life. He utilizes it for several reasons, such as data-gathering, planning, making the world a better place, and most importantly, a medium for his ability, The Matchless Poet. Kunikida previously worked as an algebra teacher at Shin-Tsuruya Institute twice a week. But at 20, he joined the ADA. Ability: Kunikida's ability, The Matchless Poet, allows Kunikida to make objects written on the papers of his notebook come into existence. However, it does not work on objects larger than the notebook. Such objects include wire guns, handguns, grenades, and flashbangs.

• Akiko Yosano: she is a member and personal physician of the Armed Detective Agency. Yosano is a young woman who takes care of her appearance. She has straight, dark hair cut into a bob that reaches past her chin and bangs. Her eyes are magenta. She wears a white button-up blouse with puffy sleeves that end in the middle of her forearm. Her shirt is tucked into a plain black skirt that flares out above the knee. She wears gloves that reach past her wrist, a black tie, and black tights. Yosano wears red high heels and a golden butterfly hairpin on the left side of her head. She is 25 years old and her height is 166 cm (52 kg). She has her own apartment. Personality: Confident, independent, perceptive, sarcastic, witty, assertive, decisive, brave, pragmatic, observant, teasing, composed under pressure, sadistic during medical treatment, enjoys elegant clothing and luxury, values her independence, intolerant of disrespect, possesses a dark sense of humor, caring in her own way, takes pride in her medical skills. She prides herself on being both a strong woman and a capable doctor, which is why she does not take too kindly to those who belittle her in both respects. Moreover, she has a penchant for the morbid and the gruesome, notably gleefully taking apart her patients and healing them with her ability afterwards. As a child, she was forced to endlessly heal wounded soldiers during the war under Mori Ōgai's orders, until the experience shattered her psyche and earned her the grim nickname “Angel of Death.”, she was 11 years old. Ranpo saved Yosano from her trauma by giving her a hairpin, reminding her that her ability is a beautiful gift rather than a curse, and offering her a new home in the Armed Detective Agency, At that time she was 14 and he was 15. Then, of course, Fukuzawa mainly helped by stopping Mori. Ability: Yosano has a rare ability among ability users, Thou Shalt Not Die, which allows her to heal all external wounds as long as they are fatal or the person must be "half-dead". Due to this, her ability is inconvenient for healing minimal wounds since she needs to fatally injure that person first. • Kenji Miyazawa: Kenji is a young boy with gold eyes and short blond hair that reached past the nape of his neck. His bangs are gathered at the center of his forehead, and he had freckles across his cheeks. He wore blue overalls that are cuffed and a black belt around his waist. His overalls are worn over a loose beige shirt that has tattered sleeves. He wore a black undershirt that has sleeves ending a little past the elbows. He wore an old straw hat around his neck. He usually goes barefoot but is sometimes shown wearing sandals. He is 14 years old and 158 cm tall (53 kg). Personality: Hailing from a small rural village, Kenji is a simple but carefree and hospitable boy, who never fails to greet people with a smile on his face. Good-natured, cheerful, optimistic, friendly, naive, sincere, calm, patient, hardworking, easygoing, fearless, compassionate, trusting, straightforward, incredibly strong, resilient, loves animals and rural life, remains positive even in dangerous situations, struggles to understand urban customs, possesses unexpected wisdom and unwavering determination. Ability: Kenji's ability, Undefeated by the Rain, granted him superhuman strength. This allowed him perform feats he normally wouldn't be able to do, such as lifting cars with ease or pulling street signs out of the cement. He could even rip a steel door from the same type as is used in high-security bank safes from the wall. It also granted him superhuman durability, as he is attacked in the back of the head with a lead pipe and suffered no ill damage whatsoever (such a blow could damage or kill a person) and he mentions getting kicked in the head by cows all the time and seems to have survived with little to no damage. The catch to his ability is that he is only able to use it on an empty stomach and would fall asleep after eating.

• Atsushi Nakajima: Atsushi has light gray hair, pale skin, and is of average height with a slim build. He has segmental heterochromia, consisting of purple on the top half of his iris and yellow along the bottom curve of his pupil. His hair is short and swept forward in loose spikes with a lock left long on the right side of his face. This uneven style is the result of bullying he suffered at the hands of other orphans in the orphanage, and he never fixed it. Additionally, he has a prominent black streak in his hair. After he joins the Armed Detective Agency, they issue him a white button-up with the sleeves pushed to his elbows from Doppo Kunikida, a loose black tie from Akiko Yosano, black pants from Yukichi Fukuzawa, black fingerless gloves from Ranpo Edogawa, suspenders from Kenji Miyazawa, and a long black belt from Osamu Dazai. He is 18 years old and 170 cm tall (55 kg). When he transforms into a partial tiger, his eyes become tiger-eye-like, and he develops fangs. If more drastic, his limbs turn into into a tiger's, and his tail emerges. When he finally develops considerable control over his ability, he can transform fully into a white tiger with black stripes and retains the tiger's gold eyes. Personality: Kind-hearted, compassionate, empathetic, insecure, anxious, sensitive, selfless, caring, modest, determined, brave in critical situations, loyal, conscientious, self-critical, craves validation, fears being unwanted, protects others even at the cost of his own safety, gradually learns to value himself and his abilities. Atsushi's traumatic past affects much of his daily life, and he is tormented with nightmares, flashbacks, and the internal monologue of the orphanage director who abused him. Atsushi grew up in an orphanage, where he suffered from severe abuse – both verbal and physical – from his caretakers, as well as social isolation from the other children. Once he hits 18 years old, Atsushi was kicked out of the orphanage under the pretense that they had a lack of funding and had to downsize. Dazai found Atsushi starving after being kicked out of the orphanage. He involved him in the investigation of the man-eating tiger, revealing that Atsushi himself was the tiger. Afterwards, Dazai helped him join the Armed Detective Agency, where Atsushi found a new home and a purpose in life. Ability: Beast Beneath the Moonlight gives Atsushi has the ability to transform into a white tiger. At first, he doesn't seem to have much control over the transformation, likely due to the fact, or caused by, his unawareness of his state as an Ability user. After becoming an official member of the Agency and under the influence of All Men Are Equal, he gains more control over his transformations.

• Jun'ichirō Tanizaki: Tanizaki has a slim, average build with orange hair, hazel eyes and pale skin. His hair is parted in the middle with its spikes sweeping downwards, along with a light grey bobby pin clipped on his left. He wears earrings with the corresponding color of his pin. His attire consists of an oversized, off-white V-necked sweater with a black stripe on the collar, light blue pants, and brown shoes. A red sweater is wrapped around his waist. Tanizaki also dons a black tank top underneath his sweater. He is 18 years old and his height is 174 cm (59 kg) Personality: Calm, polite, friendly, level-headed, modest, good-natured, resourceful, observant, loyal, caring, adaptable, cunning, secretive, capable of remaining composed in dangerous situations, merciless toward his enemies, deeply attached to his sister, willing to go to extreme lengths to protect his loved ones. Tanizaki becomes extremely cruel and bloodthirsty toward anyone who hurts his sister, Naomi. He is often embarrassed by her constant antics and physical affection, yet deeply cares for her. Naomi is his adoptive sister. Ability: His ability, Light Snow, allows him to project illusions in a certain range of area around him, covering the affected area with snowfall.

• Naomi Tanizaki: Naomi is a high school-age girl with hip-length black hair that is styled in a side-swept hime cut and dark grey eyes. She also has a beauty mark underneath her left eye. In general, her appearance does not resemble her brother, given her charismatic allure compared to Tanizaki's timid disposition. She wears a standard seifuku that consists of a white long-sleeved blouse attached with a red sailor-style collar and a black pleated skirt that comes above her knees. She also dons black socks that reach the middle of her calves and a pair of brown loafers. Personality: Playful, provocative, rebellious, flirtatious, mischievous, affectionate, teasing, bold, clingy, expressive, energetic, persistent, emotionally demonstrative, enjoys embarrassing her older brother with excessive physical affection and suggestive behavior. Her relationship with Jun'ichirō Tanizaki often appears almost romantic to outsiders due to her flirtatious teasing, intimate gestures, and disregard for personal boundaries. She enjoys provoking him, especially when he becomes flustered, but genuinely cares for him and is deeply attached to him. She has no abilities and works for ADA in her free time from school.

• Yukichi Fukuzawa: He is the president of the Armed Detective Agency. Fukuzawa is a tall man who almost always has a stern expression on his face. He has long silver hair, which ends just above his shoulder, and metallic blue eyes, which appeared to have wrinkles eyebags under them. He is always seen wearing a green yukata under a black haori (a traditional Japanese thigh-length kimono-style jacket, commonly worn by men) with golden borders with a zigzag pattern, and zori (flat sandals) with white tabi (toe-divided socks). He is 45 years old and 186 cm tall (71 kg). He has his own house decorated in traditional Japanese style. Personality: Strict, calm, reserved, wise, perceptive, disciplined, principled, level-headed, patient, authoritative, taciturn, observant, responsible, fair, decisive, quietly caring, emotionally restrained, reliable, devoted to his ideals, possesses a strong sense of duty, values order and self-control, deeply cares for his subordinates and considers them his family, willing to take responsibility for their lives, rarely displays emotions but is capable of gentleness and understanding. Fukuzawa constantly carries dried fish or cat treats in the wide sleeves of his kimono, hoping to bribe stray cats into approaching him. In the past, Fukuzawa was the government's strongest assassin and swordsman, earning the nickname “Silver Wolf.” Many years before the Agency was founded, Fukuzawa was a renowned martial arts master and often worked as a bodyguard. Ability: His ability is called All Men Are Equal, which allows him to control the abilities of those who are members of the Armed Detective Agency. He can regulate the strength of their abilities, allowing them to control their powers more effectively. However, the condition for this ability to work is that the person must officially be a member of the Agency and have passed the entrance exam; otherwise, the ability has no effect. Fukuzawa possesses incredible strength, speed, and reflexes. He is also highly skilled with a katana and is an expert in hand-to-hand combat.

The Port Mafia

• Chūya Nakahara: He is a member of the Port Mafia as well as Dazai's former partner in Twin Dark. He is one of the five Executives in the Port Mafia. Chūya is quite short with a petite, yet muscular build. He has blue eyes, and striking orange hair that frames his face, with a longer section that falls just past his left shoulder. He wears a black hat with a brown hatband and a thin silver chain that hangs over the brim. His outfit consists of a white button-up shirt under a grey vest, a black choker, a black ribbon bolo tie held together with a small silver buckle, an open black cropped jacket with the sleeves rolled up at the elbows, black slacks, a black belt hanging off his right hip and black low-arch shoes. He is almost always seen wearing black gloves. Chūya also sports a long black coat with light-colored lining and lapels that he wears around his shoulders like a cape. The undercoat is a light shade of red. He is 22 years old and 160 cm tall (60 kg). Personality: Short-tempered, arrogant, confident, hot-headed, blunt, sarcastic, proud, stubborn, impulsive, loyal, disciplined, sophisticated, pragmatic, protective, strong-willed, easily provoked, values loyalty and honor, hates being underestimated, frequently loses his temper because of Dazai’s teasing. His way of addressing Dazai: Usually calls him “Dazai” or “mackerel”. Their conversations are full of insults, sarcasm, arguments, and mutual provocation. Chuuya often calls him an annoying bastard, bandage-wasting freak, or suicidal maniac, depending on the context. Ability: His ability, Upon the Tainted Sorrow, revolves around gravity-manipulation, allowing him to manipulate and make gravitons, as well as alter the gravity of anything he touches. He is also capable of standing and walking upside down from ceilings.
