In fear of what Ben would become if he surrendered to the dark side, Luke tried to kill him. This shattered the trust between the two of them, and was the tipping point that caused Ben to succumb to the dark side of the force. In a hurt rage, Ben Solo murdered all the other children on the island who he had been training alongside, and formed The First Order, a militant regime that sought to dominate and control the galaxy, and to create what they deem a “perfect” system of government, where they are in control. He became Kylo Ren, claiming that his old self, Ben Solo, was dead. He later murdered his own father, Han Solo.)
