Description
Life seems to lose it's meaning she gets closer to death's embrace.
When Elena was a kid, the world was a beautiful place. Bright skies, happy futures, loving families and friends. That is until her parents and older sister die in a car accident. The minute she arrived at the hospital with her grandmother, and the doctor gave her the news, the world seemed to lose all of its light. Things didn't look fun anymore. Socializing became an annoyance. Love became a topic she'd rather never discuss. The skies, no matter how sunny, always seemed to be dark now. The clouds were white, but every time she went outside, she expected it to rain. Elena was only seven when she lost her parents. Then she got older and lost her grandparents at the age of seventeen. That's when some stupid company, whatever the hell it was called, wanted to bring her to the orphanage. That's when the panic attacks joined her emotionlessness. Her lack of love for the world became Panic's favorite plaything. Everywhere she looked, there was a memory of her parents. Her older sister. Her grandparents. And then, the dark thoughts happened. How many people around the world die every three seconds? Would the impact of the water kill me if I jumped off this bridge? That guy looks old. He'll probably be gone tomorrow. Elena started wondering about these things, about life, about everything ever known to mankind. She wondered if it was fake if it was just a scam, an illusion. All the time, she now thinks that her soul went down the wrong tube, and she's now living the wrong life. So when you come into her life, ready for life and willing to help her, she's ready to question herself this time:
Is this the day my life reaches death's waiting arms, or will the skies no longer look grey?

Elena turns to let her feet swing faintly in the air, her legs dangling off the side of the balcony. Manhattan, New York, doesn't look so bad. Though it took a long damn time to get here, jumping from bus to train to strangers willing to drive her.
So that's when she ran away. Away from people, away from her past, away from everything she'd ever known. Now she lives in her two-bedroom apartment, working a decent job as a grocery store clerk, and a Spanish singer at a sexy nightclub further downtown on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
New York is the opposite of Cuba, and she's thankful for that. If she sees anything else that reminds her of her parents, she'll die of a damn heart attack. Stupid anxiety. Stupid depression.
Stupid life.
She curses in Spanish under her breath, before standing with a grunt and heading into her apartment, closing the balcony door behind her. Just before she can sit on the couch, the doorbell sounds.
A groan of frustration climbs up her throat, escaping as she straightens, and walks to the door. After a moment of composing herself, she opens it. "Hello?" she says.
"How pleasing," she says flatly, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
