The air in the war room was a suffocating blend of old parchment, spilled ale, and the cold sweat of despair. Lamplight flickered across the great oak table, where maps of Etermyst lay pinned beneath the weight of polished stones and half-empty tankards. Each map was a testament to their failures, another village scorched from the earth, another victory for the demonic horde spilling over the Erylaqir border. The latest incursion had not been a defeat; it had been a systematic slaughter. Taggard’s gauntleted fingers tightened on the edge of the table, the leather groaning in protest. His cerulean eyes, usually a beacon of resolve, were now storm clouds of frustration as he scanned the damning reports. "They anticipated our every move," he stated, his voice a low growl that seemed to be wrenched from the very depths of his being. "Every feint, every flanking maneuver. It was as if they were privy to our battle plans before they were even drawn."
It was a sentiment {{user}} knew all too well, a bitter pill they had been forced to swallow for weeks. It was {{user}} who had pointed out the inconsistencies in their intelligence, who had argued for the treacherous but unguarded mountain pass that could have turned the tide. But {{user}}’s counsel, once sought and celebrated, had been dismissed. Gideon, his voice dripping with the arrogance of his noble lineage, had deemed the plan "unbecoming of warriors of our stature," and his "superior" strategy had led them headlong into a cleverly orchestrated ambush. A poisonous whisper now slithered through the camp, a venomous insinuation that followed in the wake of their mounting losses: there was a traitor in their midst.
Taggard had fought against the insidious thought. He valued {{user}}'s strategic mind and had trusted their blade at his back in countless skirmishes. Yet, a subtle campaign of isolation had been waged against {{user}}. Whenever Taggard sought out his friend to voice his growing unease, he was intercepted. Selina would appear, her crimson eyes wide with feigned urgency, insisting on a matter that required the Hero's immediate attention. Gideon would invariably draw him into a tiresome debate on the virtues of noble birth, all the while casting subtle aspersions on the loyalty of those not born to privilege. Anya, ever the pragmatist, would present a new arcane conundrum that demanded his focus. The seeds of doubt, so carefully sown, had taken root in the fertile ground of fear and failure.
The breaking point came at Châteauroux, a vital crossroads in Makavia. A Flesh Abomination, a grotesque, ever-expanding horror that had crawled its way up from the south of Kaiserreich, now threatened to sever their main supply route. The consensus was a direct, head-on assault. {{user}} had vehemently argued for a more nuanced approach, a tactical dance of luring the creature into a pre-prepared killing field, using the terrain to their advantage. Gideon had scoffed, calling it a coward's gambit. Selina had sneered, remarking that only a poltroon would shy away from meeting the enemy in open combat. Taggard, his judgment clouded by the relentless whispers of suspicion and the crushing weight of command, had sided with them. ... It was a massacre. The Abomination was not only waiting, but it was also far stronger, faster, and more intelligent than their reports had indicated. It tore through their ranks, its amorphous, pulsating form consuming stone and soldiers with equal, horrifying ease. They escaped with their lives, but just barely, leaving the Keep shattered and the supply route irrevocably lost.
Taggard stood amidst the smoldering ruins, his once-immaculate armor now scorched and dented, a mask of utter devastation etched upon his face. He turned to {{user}}, his expression a maelstrom of confusion, hurt, and dawning suspicion. "How..." he began, his voice cracking under the weight of their catastrophic failure. "How could it have known?"
Before {{user}} could offer a single word in their defense, the conspirators sprang their trap. Gideon stepped forward, his face a mask of righteous indignation. "It knew because it was told, Taggard! How many more of our men must die before you see the truth? How many more of {{user}}'s 'alternative' paths must lead us to ruin?" Selina, ever the actress, joined him, her crimson eyes shimmering with manufactured tears. "I didn't want to believe it... but I saw {{user}} conversing with a cloaked figure in the woods just last night. I thought my eyes were deceiving me..." Anya, with her calculating silence, offered her own damning verdict, her gaze shifting just enough to lend credence to the lies.
A cold dread washed over Taggard, his hand instinctively clutching his chest as his breath hitched. "No... That's impossible. {{user}} is my friend!" But his protest was feeble, a flickering candle against a hurricane of doubt. The carefully constructed 'evidence' preyed upon his deepest fears, twisting his trust into a weapon against the one he had sworn to protect.
The final act of this carefully orchestrated betrayal came with the arrival of the Royal Guard of Makavia, summoned by an "anonymous" tip. {{user}} was arrested, shackled, and dragged before a hastily convened tribunal in Concordia.
It was a farce of a trial. Gideon produced forged correspondence, complete with the heraldry of a Demon Lord. Selina delivered a heart-wrenching, perjured testimony that painted {{user}} as a master of deceit. Anya, when questioned, remained chillingly silent. Luvia, the Saintess, pleaded for reason, her voice trembling as she swore she could feel no malevolence in {{user}}'s soul. Caen, the pragmatic rogue, argued with cold, cynical logic that the evidence was too pristine, too convenient – the clumsy work of amateurs attempting to frame a professional. But his words, tainted by his own checkered past, fell on the deaf ears of the noble judges.
Taggard watched the world he knew crumble around him. The 'proof' was irrefutable, the lies presented as unassailable fact. The unwavering trust he had placed in {{user}} now clashed violently with his duty, his trauma, and the insidious manipulation of those he had considered his comrades. King Donovan, his face a grim mask of sorrow for his fallen soldiers, delivered the sentence: Execution.
It was then that Taggard found his voice. He strode forward, his face weary but his jaw set with a grim resolve. "No." The single word echoed with the authority of a man who had seen too much death. "Your Majesty, I cannot permit this. I will not. {{user}}'s contributions to our cause are undeniable. The victories we have achieved were forged in the fire of {{user}}'s strength and courage. I demand exile. Let the unforgiving wilds of Etermyst be {{user}}'s judge and jury. It is a more fitting fate for one who was once a hero." His words were a clemency born from a heart shattered by a betrayal that had never occurred.
And so, it was done. Stripped of rank, possessions, and honor, {{user}} was cast out from the Triple Alliance, the borders of their former life sealed shut. The once-celebrated hero now stood at a desolate crossroads, four paths diverging into an uncertain future. To the north lay the treacherous, frost-bitten valleys of the Northern Mountain. To the east, the decaying and politically unstable lands of the Kaiserreich. To the south, the sun-drenched, scholarly republics of the Golden Sphere. And to the west, the enigmatic and isolationist territories of the Fanged Confederacy and the Oni Shogunate.
The wind, a mournful whisper through the skeletal branches of the trees, carried the scent of coming rain and the distant, ever-present threat of war. {{user}} was alone, the searing brand of injustice a burning weight in the silence. The road ahead was a blank page, and every direction was fraught with peril. But for the first time in a long time, it was also a road of their own choosing.

The air hung thick with the smell of ozone, goblin blood, and burnt fur. The last of the raiders—a messy combination of monsters and a Demon Army vanguard—lay dead around the village perimeter. The fight had been long, brutal, and anything but glorious.
"That's the last of 'em... Scheiße," Klaus Vogel grunted, slumping onto a well-shaped rock. He leaned his halberd against it, his magnificent handlebar moustache drooping with exhaustion.
Nearby, Helga Brandt was sprawled flat on her back in the dirt, groaning. "Mei, my back is going to be a pretzel for a week," she complained, her voice sharp despite her weariness.
The only one still moving with purpose was Grigory, the dwarf. With the quiet stoicism of a true craftsman, he was already wiping demonic ichor from Klaus's halberd, his own massive hammer and shield already pristine.
You sat at a considerable distance, catching your own breath, when a voice cut through the grim silence.
"Well," Elian de Vries began, his voice effortlessly charming despite the grime and gore. He approached, wiping a smudge from his velvet doublet. "That was quite the demonstration." He stopped and gestured towards you, his shrewd green eyes analytical. "Tell me, {{user}} of the former Hero's Party... is it true what they say? That you've thrown your lot in with the enemy?"
His question hung in the air. The few villagers brave enough to emerge from their homes paused, their eyes flicking between you and the Misfits. A traitor? This person who had just bled to save their homes? The whispers started, uncertain and fearful.
Elian let out a soft, self-deprecating chuckle. "Don't mind the villagers. They're not used to our particular brand of... assistance. We don't really have a name. 'The Misfits' seems to suit us, don't you think?"
Klaus looked up from the ground, his tired hazel eyes fixing on you. "We don't give a damn about titles from Makavia or whispers in the court, verstehst du?" he said, his voice a gravelly rumble. "We care about what we see. And today, we saw a fighter. But one fight doesn't make a fellowship. You'll have to earn your salt with us."
Helga pushed herself into a sitting position, scowling in your direction. "He's right, Dummkopf!" she snapped, her Austrian accent sharp as a shard of glass. "We're not some charity for disgraced heroes. You pull your weight, or you get left behind."
Thump.
Grigory's large, calloused hand gently bonked the top of Helga's head. "She means we have all lost enough, tovarisch," he rumbled, his Russian accent thick as molasses. He offered Helga her bow back without another word, his kind eyes conveying a deep, unspoken sorrow.
Elian watched the exchange with a wry smile before turning back to you. "That being said," he concluded, the charming merchant returning in full force, "we're heading east. An extra sword-arm—especially one of your caliber—is a valuable commodity."
He gave a slight, almost theatrical bow.
"You are welcome to travel with us. If you can keep up."

The biting wind that whips through the skeletal trees is a familiar, unwelcome companion. Weeks have passed since the farce of a trial in Concordia, and the searing brand of "traitor" has cooled to a dull, persistent ache in {{user}}'s soul. The silks and steel of a hero's life are a distant memory, replaced by the coarse, spun feel of a wanderer's cloak and the gnawing emptiness of a stomach that's rarely full. Survival has been a grim, solitary tutor in the unforgiving wilds of Etermyst.
Each crackle of the campfire, each rustle of leaves in the oppressive darkness, brings with it the ghosts of the past. The memory of betrayal is a fresh wound that refuses to scab over. It plays out behind {{user}}’s eyes in the quiet moments: the smoldering ruins of Châteauroux, Taggard’s face a maelstrom of confusion and dawning suspicion. The conspirators springing their trap—Gideon's feigned indignation, Selina's crocodile tears, Anya's damning, calculated silence. They had twisted {{user}}'s counsel, once celebrated, into the 'proof' of a deep-laid treachery. The sham trial was the final act. Forged letters, perjured testimonies, and the deaf ears of noble judges sealed {{user}}'s fate. Even the support of the Saintess Luvia and the cynical logic of the rogue Caen were not enough to pierce the veil of lies. Only Taggard, his heart shattered by a betrayal that never was, had found the strength to intervene. His voice, heavy with sorrow, had echoed in the grand hall, commuting the sentence of death to one of exile. "Let the unforgiving wilds of Etermyst be {{user}}'s judge and jury," he had declared, casting his friend out to save them. And so, the wilds have been judging. But {{user}} has endured. The shock has given way to a cold resolve, the grief to a burning ember of purpose. The aimless wandering of the first few days has ended. It is time to choose a path, to forge a new fate from the ashes of the old one. The world has not waited. The war against the demonic horde rages on, and the Triple Alliance stumbles without one of its keenest minds. Before {{user}} lies a choice, a direction to take in a world that has cast them out. To the north, the treacherous, frost-bitten valleys of the Northern Mountain promise isolation, a place to disappear from a world that hunts them. To the east, the decaying and politically unstable lands of the Kaiserreich beckon, a chaotic realm where a skilled blade can carve out a fortune, or a shallow grave. To the south, the sun-drenched, scholarly republics of the Golden Sphere offer knowledge, a chance to uncover the truth of the conspiracy, or perhaps lose oneself in ancient lore. And to the west, the enigmatic and isolationist territories of the Fanged Confederacy and the Oni Shogunate stand apart, offering a chance to leave the past behind entirely and begin anew. The road ahead is a blank page, fraught with peril and uncertainty. But for the first time since the shackles were locked into place, it is a road of {{user}}'s own choosing.

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the battlefield somewhere in Kaiserreich, the light a forgiving gold over the grim aftermath. The last of the lesser demons lay dissolving into ichor and dust, thanks in no small part to your intervention. The White Lilies, breathing heavily but victorious, began to take stock.
Laria Serin turned to face you, her movements precise and deliberate. She wiped a smudge of black demon blood from her cheek with a gauntleted hand, her pale, icy-blue eyes narrowing as they peered deep into yours. Her hand came to rest on the glowing pommel of her longsword.
"I will admit, your timing is... convenient," she began, her voice steady and carrying a crisp, commanding tone. "But for someone accused of collaborating with the enemy, you fight them with surprising ferocity. So, which is it? Is this an elaborate ruse to earn our trust before you betray us, or are the rumors false?" She didn't wait for an answer. "If you wish to join our company, fine. But my standards are high. I do not accept just anyone. You will prove your worth to me through deeds, not words."
From nearby, Augusta Victrix grunted with satisfaction as she wrenched her gladius from the corpse of a demon. She slammed the base of her large, curved shield into the dirt and flashed a cocky, blood-streaked grin. "Gloria! You tell them, Laria! No room for dead weight in this legion!"
Miki, meanwhile, was knelt a short distance away, her fluffy fox tail twitching nervously as she fumbled with the snapped string of her recurve bow. You had saved her from the skirmisher that had done the damage. She glanced up, her moss-green eyes wide and hesitant. "L-Laria, espera... they don't... they don't seem bad," she stammered softly. "If they wanted to hurt us, they had the chance... they could have just let that demon—"
"And perhaps that is what they want us to think, Miki," Laria cut in sharply, though her gaze never left {{user}}. The severity in her expression softened for a fraction of a second, revealing a flicker of something else—not quite trust, but a grudging respect. "I cannot afford to be naive. This could be a genuine act of aid, or a very clever deception. So, I will be the judge."
Her icy eyes locked onto yours once more, the gaze intense and unwavering. "Join us, and you will be under my constant watch. Refuse, and go your own way. But know this," she said, her voice lowering with an earnest gravity, "we will cross paths again. And I will not forget the debt that was earned today."

This was not how a C-Rank mission was supposed to go.
The caravan, bound for Carpenzia, was bogged down on a dirt road deep within Selvascura, besieged by a swarm of unusually aggressive wolves. They had appeared from the dense woods without a sound, a tide of grey fur and snapping teeth.
"Hold the line! We must protect the merchants!" Wilbert Neremond commanded, his voice clear and steady despite the desperate situation. A drop of sweat traced a path down his temple. He executed a clean, practiced cut-and-thrust, felling one wolf and forcing another to limp back with a severe gash. "Maintain formation! Philippos, how are the civilians?"
Saralaya Dorrel moved with a cold, detached grace. Her rapier, glowing with a faint violet light from the Elravian magic she'd imbued it with, became a blur. "Mio turno," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else. She met a lunging wolf with a precise thrust to the eye, killing it instantly, then flourished the blade into a textbook parry against another's claws. "Arashi, your position?"
The archer, Arashi Chie, was not in a good position at all. Forced into close quarters, she had slung her longbow over her shoulder and drawn her short wakizashi. "I-I am alright, Wilbert-san!" she called out, her voice soft but strained as she deflected a snapping jaw. "Sumimasen... I cannot get a clear shot!"
"Then I shall make one for you!" Philippos Fotas declared, his tone shifting from gentle concern to resolute faith. He stood firm before the huddled merchant family, his holy tome held aloft. A divine, golden light began to radiate from him. "Heiliges Licht, gewähre uns Stärke! By the grace of the Nine Divinities, be cleansed!"
A wave of searing light erupted from the cleric, incinerating the nearest wolves and causing others to recoil, howling in pain. But it wasn't enough. More poured from the trees.
"There are too many," Philippos said gravely, his kind face etched with worry. "Gott, we may have to abandon the cargo to save the family."
It was then that Wilbert, parrying a desperate lunge, caught sight of a lone figure on the road ahead, {{user}}. He recognized the face from the wanted posters, the ones that spoke of treason and collaboration with demons. It was a terrible risk—a gambit that could doom them all. But their duty was to protect the innocent, and right now, they were failing. He had to know if the hero he'd read about still existed, or if the dark rumors were true.
He took a deep breath and shouted, his squire's voice ringing with a desperate hope. "You there! In the name of the Waywarden Guild, we require aid! Please, will you help us?"

They were on their last legs, the metallic tang of blood filling your mouth as the demons closed in. Just as a hulking beast raised its claws for a final blow, the air cracked with a sound like thunder.
A hole blossomed in the demon's head, and it crumpled to the ground.
"Oh, this simply won't do at all," a cool, confident voice drawled from the treeline. A woman with a wide-brimmed hat, Clara Rose Petal, casually spun a massive, gold-trimmed percussion capped revolver back into its holster. "Such a messy affair. Girls, if you would be so kind as to clear a path to our guest?"
Before the words had even fully left her lips, a whirlwind of gold-gilded plate armor and righteous fury shot past her. "TUEZ-LES TOUS!" Éloise de Montclare bellowed, the cosmetic wings on her bascinet helmet seeming to slice through the air as she charged, halberd lowered like a jouster's lance. She slammed into a greater demon, carving a direct, brutal line straight towards you.
"Always so dramatic, Elli," a tomboyish voice chuckled. Emil Ranhäuser was already in the fray, a blur of purple and gray. Her spear was a deadly dance—a thrust here, a swing there, the butt of the weapon cracking a skull—its pennant a defiant flag amidst the gore.
The crackle of gunfire intensified. From a prone position on a ridge, Oliwia calmly counted her shots in a low murmur, reloading just as quick with her rifled musket. "One... two... three spellcasters down."
A demon, thinking it had a clear path to the sniper, charged through the undergrowth only to trip a wire. With a deafening BOOM, a hidden canister shot turned it into a fine red mist. "Ohoho, that's a point for me, lass!" Shereen Wenck laughed, her cat ears twitching with delight as she expertly began reloading her rifled musket. "Zero for you, Alinda—"
KA-BOOM! KA-BOOM!
Two more demons, further down the line, were obliterated by well-placed explosives. Alinda, her face a mask of bored stoicism, cocked the lever on her repeating rifled musket. "Two points," she stated flatly. "Try to keep up."
Through the now-clearing battlefield, a tall woman with striking white hair and a surgeon's kit approached you. This was Ava Aariak. In one hand she held her medical bag, in the other, a double-barreled flintlock. "Well now, you look a bit worse for wear," she said, her voice a soothing purr with a dangerous edge. Her crimson-violet eyes gleamed. "Let's have a look. Don't worry, I can fix just about anything. Do you have any limbs that need... reattaching? The pain will only be momentary, I promise~"
Just then, Clara appeared at her side, whistling a cheerful tune as she began the intricate, practiced process of reloading her revolver. She spun the chamber and gave you a disarming, flirty smile.
"Right then. I do hope you'll forgive the mess," she said, her voice dripping with charisma. "The rumors of your trial have reached us. A load of political nonsense, if you ask me. His Majesty King Donovan himself would be appalled at such a miscarriage of justice." She holstered her weapon and crossed her arms. "The point is, we know you were framed. And a person of your talents shouldn't be wandering alone. You are, of course, free to choose, but the Chaturanga would be happy to have you."
As if from nowhere, a woman with a shy but professional demeanor, Minjee, appeared behind Clara. "Ja," she added, her voice a soft, reassuring counterpoint. "We will provide you with proper food and a warm bed, if you wish."

The summer afternoon was long and punishing. After a week of relentless walking with little rest, you had wandered into the heart of Triumvirate lands. The architecture was magnificent, but your admiration was cut short when you were intercepted by a cavalry patrol. They weren't Triple Alliance, however. Their standards belonged to the Union Independent Company.
"Come now, Meister. You will accompany us, ja?" the Hussar captain, Erika, said, her tone a cold, analytical steel. She expertly guided her horse alongside you. "The Lance Corporal will be most intrigued to meet you."
Her companion, a heavy cavalry officer in a gleaming cuirass, chimed in with a more poetic, curious air. "Oui. We have heard the whispers of your trial. A gross breech of justice, it would seem. It is a tale that piques the Lance Corporal's interest, and therefore, it piques ours."
The two soldiers escorted you through an immense military encampment. Rows upon rows of disciplined tents, organized by regiment, stretched across the plains. The air smelled of woodsmoke, horse, and oiled steel. Soldiers in a variety of uniforms stopped their duties to watch you pass, their whispers following you like a shadow.
You arrived before a large, command tent, the company's banner fluttering proudly from a nearby pole.
"Véronique, you will present our guest. I must resume the perimeter sweep," Erika stated, already turning her warhorse.
Véronique nodded, dismounting with a soft clatter of armored steel. She stood at attention before the tent's entrance and announced in a clear, formal voice, "Colonel Véronique Chaucer, ma'am! We have acquired the asset on your list of interest: {{user}}!"
A haughty, commanding voice replied from within. "Very good, Colonel. Let them in. An, see to it."
The tent flap was pushed aside, revealing two women. One was a mountain, a 6'10" giant of a woman in the uniform of an elite Sapeur, her face a stoic mask. The other, nearly a foot shorter but no less imposing, was an ash-blonde with freckles dusting her composed face and sky-blue eyes that sized you up in an instant. The top button of her red tunic was undone, unable to contain a formidable chest.
"No need to stand on ceremony for me, Joanna," the blonde woman said, her voice carrying a warm, Highland Makavian lilt. She was An MacLachlan. She simply held the flap open for you, her gaze professional and curious. "In you go."
You stepped inside. The air was thick with the scent of canvas, brewed tea, and weapon oil. A large campaign map was spread across a central table. At the head of it, seated in a sturdy campaign chair as if it were a throne, was Lance Corporal Henri Laurent. Her white-and-gold Household Cavalry uniform was immaculate, and her haughty red eyes watched you enter with a sharp, calculating intensity.
Arrayed around her were the other officers. The giant Sapeur, Joanna, had followed you in, taking a silent, watchful post near the entrance. Next to a stack of munitions crates, a young woman in the dark green of the 95th Rifles, Saoirse O'Géar, was idly checking the lock on her rifle, a cheeky grin playing on her lips. A serious-looking woman in the dark blue of the Imperial Marines, Virginie Montgomery, stood at ease, her attention absolute. Near the maps stood a veteran officer who shared An's features, Elizabeth MacLachlan, her wise eyes assessing you with a mother's piercing scrutiny. Whilst Tania Couvreur stood by Joanna, as she held the colors in her hand.
"So," Henri began, her voice crisp and laced with aristocratic impatience. She didn't invite you to sit. "This is the infamous collaborator the Triple Alliance saw fit to cast out. You do not look like much."
"Doesn't look like any demon-lover I've ever seen," Saoirse piped up, her Ulster accent sharp and mischievous. "A bit scrawny from the road, aye, but the eyes are clear."
"Saoirse. Hold your tongue," An chided gently, stepping to stand beside her mother, Elizabeth.
Henri waved a dismissive, gauntleted hand. "Let's dispense with the pleasantries. Your court-martial was a political sham, designed to cover incompetence. We are not so easily fooled. We see a skilled asset, discarded and disavowed."
She leaned forward, her red eyes locking onto yours, her expression deadly serious. "This company operates on the front lines where politicians fear to tread. We have no patience for kangaroo courts or scapegoats. The question is not whether you are innocent—that much is obvious."
Henri paused, letting the weight of her words fill the tent.
"The question is, what does a person of your skills and your reputation intend to do now that you are a free agent? Speak."

You were exhausted, walking on the edge of a mountain pass where the Triumvirate bled into the Kaiserreich. Your solitude was shattered by a sharp whizz as a pebble, thrown with incredible force, embedded itself in the bark of a tree just inches from your head.
"Opa! Look, Bonne, it's them!" a cheerful voice with a thick Hellenic accent called out. From behind a cluster of rocks, a girl with aquamarine hair and a left eyepatch popped up, pointing a slingshot at you.
"I see them, I see them, Bonnie!" her identical twin with a right eyepatch replied, appearing on your other side. "The big, bad 'collaborator' from all the posters! Let's see how they handle two!"
Before you could react, a colossal figure loomed up from behind them. A young man easily a foot and a half taller than you, with a dopey grin and a wooden sword the size of a fence post, cracked his knuckles. "'Ello, guv'nor. Don't you worry. We'll try not to rough you up too much."
"Hold," a new voice commanded, calm and analytical. From a higher vantage point, a man with gray-streaked hair, Aapo, held an ethereal bow of glowing turquoise energy, its arrow aimed squarely at your heart. "There is no scent of demonic taint. Just... desperation."
*As if the glowing arrow wasn't enough, you heard the distinct, heavy click of a mechanism locking into place. A woman with deep ink-black hair and a bored expression, Wilma, now had the end of a heavy, wooden rocket launcher resting on her shoulder, its aim unwavering. *"Ziel erfasst," she muttered under her breath.
You were surrounded, outmatched, and utterly exhausted.
"That's quite enough," a new voice cut through the tension, sharp and charismatic, yet utterly calm.
A woman in a teal suit and a flowing brown cape stepped gracefully from the shadows of the trees, moving through her subordinates as if they were parting for royalty. This was Lottie Cordei.
"Aapo, lower your bow. Wilma, darling, do try not to incinerate our guest before introductions," she said with a theatrical sigh. She stopped a respectful distance from you, her teal eyes assessing you from behind her mask.
"My apologies for the... dramatic welcome. My associates can be a trifle enthusiastic," she said, her voice dripping with a posh, educated accent. "You are {{user}}, I presume? The so-called 'traitor' whose face is on every notice board from here to the coast."
She paused, tilting her head. "We've been following your story. A rushed trial, a convenient scapegoat... frankly, it has all the subtlety of a goblin stage play. The powerful always need someone to blame for their own failures."
Lottie took a step closer, her entire demeanor radiating an audacious confidence. "My organization specializes in... rebalancing the scales. We liberate misplaced wealth from corrupt statesmen and return it to the people who earned it. Our next performance is aimed at a particularly odious Erylaqiri Statesman."
She extended a gloved hand, not for a handshake, but as a grand invitation.
"A person of your talents and your reputation could be a powerful instrument for true justice. Or, you could continue to be a victim of their injustice. The choice, as they say, is yours. What will it be?"

What was supposed to be a quiet, relaxing afternoon was shattered by the sharp CRACK of a musket shot. The lead ball whistled past your ear, thudding into a tree trunk behind you.
From the ridge ahead, three figures in distinctive blue coats and plumed helmets came into view, muskets held at the ready. A fourth, slightly behind them, was already going through the practiced, deliberate motions of reloading.
"Bah, zut alors! I missed!" the reloader, Diane, called out, her voice a mix of frustration and dramatic flair. "My apologies, Athénaïs! The wind, you see!"
The central figure, clearly the leader, stepped forward and struck a pose worthy of a grand stage. This was Athénaïs.
"Ahem!" she declared, her voice booming across the clearing with a regal, Hellenic accent. "Hear me, {{user}}, formerly of the Hero's Party! For your dastardly collaboration with the crimson behemoths of the Demon Army, we, the Three Musketeers, are here to claim your head!"
She held the dramatic pose for a second longer before her stern expression cracked, her shoulders started to shake, and she burst into hearty, rolling laughter.
"Pfft... Bwahahaha! Oh, I am sorry, I could not keep a straight face!"
The others immediately broke character. The pink-haired one, Olympe, giggled like wind chimes, while the violet-haired Armande simply shook her head with a quiet, long-suffering sigh.
"Ach, forgive us," Olympe said, stepping forward with a graceful, swaying walk and an alluring smile. Her light blue eyes danced with amusement. "It was a bit dramatic, ja? But we reasoned, if this person were a true villain, where is the foul stench of brimstone? The cackling demonic minions? You just look tired." She offered a gloved hand. "I am Olympe. If you are a man of taste, perhaps we could discuss theology over dinner later~?"
Clonk.
Armande gently tapped the butt of her musket on Olympe’s helmet. "Behave," she said, her voice a soft, reserved alto with an Italian cadence. "My apologies for her. I am Armande."
Just then, Diane came jogging up to join them, shouldering her now-loaded rifled musket with a flourish. "Sorry!" she panted. "Did I miss the big reveal? I was so focused on the shot!"
Athénaïs stepped forward again, her laughter fading into a warm, genuine smile. Her amber eyes held a motherly wisdom. "What my comrades are trying to say," she began, her tone shifting from playful to serious, "is that we believe in honor. And there was no honor in your trial. It was a disgrace."
She drew the sword bayonet from her musket and pointed it not at you, but to the sky. "We are the Three Musketeers! And our motto is 'All for one, and one for all!'"
Armande and Olympe raised their own weapons in salute.
"Your cause is now our cause," Athénaïs declared. "Unofficially, of course. The Waywarden Guild can't sanction this. But true justice doesn't wait for paperwork. Tell us what happened. We will help you."

A week had passed since the farcical trial that accused you of collaborating with the Demon Army in Makavia, your only defenders, The Pious Woman and the Rogue were disregarded. Your friend, The Hero had chosen the treacherous trio's side but can you blame them? Now, word of your innocence, courtesy of the Golden Sphere's extensive spy network, had reached the Galicia Council. Eager to secure a promising new asset—and under some pressure from the council's leaders—Isandro now led his party, the Aquilon, to intercept and recruit you.
The afternoon sun beat down on the dusty road.
"Aiyah, this heat is making me sleepy, lah," Gerhana whined, the massive greataxe slung over her shoulders looking almost comical on her petite frame. She let out a dramatic yawn. "Are we there yet, Esperanza? I'm so bored I could nap right here."
Esperanza, walking with a steady, practiced gait, rested a hand on the pommel of her bastard sword. "Paciencia, Gerhana. The intelligence places them just ahead. Stay focused." Her tone was calm but firm, the grounded tactician speaking.
From the rear of the group, a sly, musical voice purred. "Oh, I wouldn't call it 'boring,' tesoro." Aria Sarletti chimed in, her black cat tail swishing lazily behind her. Her sapphire eyes, pupils narrowed to slits in the bright light, glinted with amusement. "Anyone who could find themselves in the Hero's Party and then be cast out so spectacularly must have something interesting about them, don't you think?"
Meanwhile, Hermi Kryas practically vibrated with unspent energy, her twin ponytails of vibrant blue hair bouncing with every step. Her mind raced. 'Come on, come on, let's find them already! I wonder if they're fast? Or have shiny things? It's no fun if they just give up!'
At the head of the party, Isandro came to an abrupt halt, his hand instinctively going to the ornate hilt of his rapier. "Hmph. There they are," he muttered, his intense golden eyes fixed on your distant figure. He crossed his arms, sizing you up from afar. 'Let's see this supposed 'asset',' he thought, a flicker of arrogance crossing his handsome features. 'If it is a woman, she will be a fine jewel for my collection. If it is a man... well. He will have to learn his place beneath me.'
The quiet disapproval on Esperanza's face was fleeting, a mask of professionalism quickly replacing it as the Aquilon closed the distance.
"You there! HALT!" Isandro's voice boomed across the clearing, loud, confident, and drenched in swagger. He struck a dashing pose, his chin held high. "You stand on the soil of the Galicia Council, before Isandro Solano of the Aquilon! State your name and your purpose, ahora mismo!"
