From the Netflix Series, Locke & Key 🔑

My lovelies!

I have been gone for so long, work and school is so hectic right now — I’ve been going back and watching shows I used to be obsessed with and noticed there aren’t a lot of bots of this show.

I tried to put everything that happened through season 1-3 in here, including all the characters. I hope you all enjoy, and I hope I will have more time to make more bots for you all! Please, comment anything you guys need me to fix or add!

Absolutely. Below is a full in-world chronicle of the Locke family, Keyhouse, the Keepers of the Keys, the demons, the major characters, the major events from the beginning through the final moments, and every magical key known to have appeared during their story. It contains major spoilers for everything, including the ending.

THE CHRONICLES OF KEYHOUSE

THE WORLD OF MATHESON

In the quiet town of Matheson, Massachusetts, stood an enormous ancestral estate known as Keyhouse.

It was not an ordinary home.

For generations, the Locke family had lived with secrets hidden inside its walls—secret doors, impossible rooms, ancient artifacts, and most importantly, magical keys forged from a strange metal known as whispering iron.

Every key possessed a different power.

Some could open doors into the human mind. Some could summon the dead. Some could manipulate shadows. Some could change a person's appearance. Some could travel through space. And one could open a doorway into an entire dimension filled with demons.

The magic had existed long before the youngest generation of Lockes ever discovered it.

And eventually, it would nearly destroy them.

THE BEGINNING — RENDELL LOCKE AND THE ORIGINAL KEEPERS

Long before Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke came to Keyhouse, their father, Rendell Locke, had been a teenager in Matheson.

Rendell was adventurous, intelligent, loyal, and deeply fascinated by the strange magic surrounding his family home.

He was not alone.

His closest friends included:

  • Ellie Whedon
  • Lucas Caravaggio
  • Kim Topher
  • Erin Voss
  • Mark Cho
  • Duncan Locke, Rendell's younger brother

Together, several of them became known as the Keepers of the Keys.

They discovered that magical keys could be created from a mysterious metal found beyond the Black Door, located inside caves beneath Matheson.

The Black Door was opened using the Omega Key.

But opening it came with a terrible price.

When Rendell and his friends first opened the Black Door, strange glowing pieces of demonic metal flew from the darkness beyond it.

One of those pieces entered Lucas Caravaggio.

Lucas was possessed by a demon.

At first, Lucas seemed normal.

Then he began changing.

The demon inside him wanted the keys.

Lucas became dangerous and eventually attacked his friends.

Rendell was forced to kill him.

The surviving Keepers were devastated.

Ellie had loved Lucas, and his death haunted her for decades.

The teenagers decided to hide the truth.

But Duncan had witnessed too much.

To protect him, the other Keepers used the Head Key to remove his memories of the magic.

Those memories were then hidden using the Plant Key, buried beneath Keyhouse.

The surviving Keepers eventually separated.

But the magic never disappeared.

Neither did Lucas.

DODGE

The demon inside Lucas eventually became known as Dodge.

Dodge was not simply a monster that wanted to kill people.

She was intelligent, manipulative, patient, and extraordinarily deceptive.

She understood people's emotions and weaknesses and used them against them.

Years later, Ellie could no longer live with the loss of Lucas.

She secretly used the Echo Key inside Keyhouse's Wellhouse.

She believed she could bring Lucas back.

Instead, she summoned the demon that had possessed him.

Dodge appeared as an echo.

She was trapped inside the Wellhouse, unable to leave without the proper magic.

But Dodge was clever.

She manipulated Bode Locke when he first discovered her.

She presented herself as a mysterious woman trapped inside the Wellhouse and convinced Bode that she was harmless.

She learned about the Locke children's discoveries and began manipulating events from the shadows.

Eventually, Dodge obtained the Identity Key, allowing her to assume different appearances.

She could become:

  • Lucas
  • a mysterious woman
  • Gabe
  • other identities

Her most important disguise would eventually become Gabe, Kinsey's friend and romantic interest.

THE MURDER OF RENDELL LOCKE

Years later, Rendell had become a father.

He and Nina Locke had three children:

Tyler Locke

The oldest.

Kinsey Locke

The middle child and only daughter.

Bode Locke

The youngest.

Rendell attempted to keep his family's magical history away from his children.

But someone from his past eventually found him.

That person was Sam Lesser.

Sam had become obsessed with Rendell and the secrets surrounding Keyhouse.

Sam attacked Rendell, resulting in Rendell's death.

The Locke family was shattered.

Nina, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode left their old life behind and traveled to Matheson.

They moved into Keyhouse.

None of them understood what waited for them there.

SEASON ONE — THE KEYS AWAKEN

THE LOCKES ARRIVE AT KEYHOUSE

Bode was the first to become fascinated with Keyhouse.

Unlike Tyler and Kinsey, who were struggling with grief and trying to adjust to their new school, Bode explored every corner of the enormous estate.

He heard whispers.

He discovered hidden doors.

And eventually, he found a strange key.

The Anywhere Key.

Bode soon discovered that the key could allow someone to travel through a door to another location—as long as the traveler could properly envision the destination.

Bode also discovered the Wellhouse.

And inside it was Dodge.

Dodge immediately began manipulating him.

THE LOCKE CHILDREN AND THE MAGIC

As the siblings explored Keyhouse, they began finding more keys.

The Head Key allowed them to literally enter the mental world inside someone's mind.

Inside a person's mind were memories, emotions, fears, knowledge, and pieces of their personality.

Kinsey eventually used the Head Key to confront her own fear.

She removed it from herself.

But instead of simply becoming fearless, she encountered her fear as a living creature.

Kinsey eventually realized something important:

Fear was not something she needed to destroy.

She needed to understand it.

This changed her.

Kinsey became much more courageous and adventurous.

She also became involved with the Savini Squad, a group of students interested in filmmaking and horror.

The group included:

  • Scot Cavendish
  • Doug Browning
  • Zadie Wells
  • Gabe
  • Kinsey

TYLER LOCKE

Tyler struggled differently.

He carried enormous anger over his father's death.

He blamed himself for what happened.

He also struggled with the pressure of becoming the oldest man in the family.

Tyler became close to Jackie Veda, a kind and intelligent girl from school.

Their relationship became one of the most important emotional parts of Tyler's story.

But Tyler's life was constantly interrupted by the secrets of Keyhouse.

NINA LOCKE

Nina struggled with grief and alcohol after Rendell's death.

She knew something was wrong with Keyhouse but couldn't understand what.

Because of a magical rule surrounding the keys, adults eventually forget their experiences with magic unless they use the Memory Key.

This meant Nina's children knew things she couldn't remember.

It created an enormous distance between them.

Nina repeatedly sensed that something important was happening around her but couldn't hold onto the memories.

THE HEAD KEY AND DUNCAN'S MEMORIES

Tyler and Kinsey eventually discovered evidence that their father had been involved with magic.

Using the Plant Key, they discovered hidden memories belonging to their uncle Duncan.

The memories revealed the truth about Rendell's past.

Duncan had been one of the original witnesses to the magic.

His memories had been removed to protect him.

Eventually, the Lockes restored Duncan's memories.

He remembered the keys.

He remembered Lucas.

And he remembered what Rendell and the other Keepers had done.

THE BLACK DOOR

The Locke children eventually discovered the truth about the Black Door.

It was located in the sea caves beneath Matheson.

The Omega Key opened it.

Beyond the door was a dark, otherworldly dimension.

This was where the demonic power had originated.

The glowing pieces of metal that came through the door were responsible for creating new demons and new magical keys.

Rendell had opened this door decades earlier.

Now his children had to deal with the consequences.

THE DODGE REVELATION

Dodge eventually revealed herself more openly.

The Locke children believed they could defeat her.

With the help of their friends, they confronted her.

But Dodge had already prepared a deception.

Using the Identity Key, Dodge had transformed Ellie Whedon so that Ellie looked exactly like Dodge.

The Lockes believed Ellie was the demon.

They threw her through the Black Door.

They thought they had won.

They hadn't.

A piece of demonic energy struck Eden Hawkins.

Eden was secretly possessed.

And then the final revelation came:

Gabe was Dodge.

Gabe had never been who Kinsey believed him to be.

Dodge had been beside the Lockes the entire time.

The first chapter of the family's battle ended with Dodge secretly preparing her next move.

SEASON TWO — THE DEMON'S PLAN

The second chapter became much darker.

Dodge, disguised as Gabe, remained close to Kinsey.

She continued manipulating everyone around her.

Her ultimate goal was no longer simply escaping Keyhouse.

She wanted to create an army of demons.

To accomplish this, she needed Duncan Locke.

Duncan possessed the knowledge necessary to create magical keys.

Dodge forced him to forge the Demon Key.

The Demon Key could turn humans into demon-controlled beings.

Dodge began transforming people.

GABE AND KINSEY

Kinsey believed Gabe loved her.

That made the deception particularly cruel.

Gabe appeared to be charming, affectionate, confident, and supportive.

But underneath the identity was Dodge.

Kinsey eventually discovered the truth.

Her relationship with Gabe became one of the biggest betrayals of her life.

EDEN HAWKINS

Eden was another major threat.

After being struck by the demonic metal at the end of the first chapter, Eden became possessed.

She became increasingly cruel, arrogant, impulsive, and dangerous.

Unlike Dodge, Eden was often reckless.

She enjoyed causing trouble.

She also developed an uneasy relationship with Gideon, though their interests did not remain aligned.

DUNCAN'S RETURN

Duncan eventually remembered the truth about the keys.

He was horrified by what Dodge was doing.

But Duncan also realized something important.

Because he had helped create keys in the past, he could create a new one capable of fighting demons.

Together, the Lockes began working toward a way to destroy Dodge permanently.

THE ALPHA KEY

Tyler eventually created the Alpha Key.

This key was specifically designed to remove demons from possessed humans.

It became the weapon that could finally destroy Dodge.

But using it carried consequences.

If the demon was expelled from a living host, the demon's essence could become whispering iron.

The Alpha Key became essential to the family's final battle.

JACKIE

Tyler and Jackie grew increasingly close.

Jackie was intelligent, compassionate, determined, and deeply loyal to Tyler.

But she eventually became one of Dodge's victims.

Dodge used the Demon Key on her.

Tyler tried desperately to save her.

The Alpha Key worked—but Jackie did not survive the process.

Her death devastated Tyler.

It showed him that the magic wasn't simply an adventure.

People could die because of it.

THE BATTLE WITH DODGE

The Locke family eventually confronted Dodge.

Tyler used the Alpha Key against her.

The demon was finally removed from Dodge's host.

Dodge was destroyed.

The Locke family had seemingly won.

But another danger remained.

Frederick Gideon.

CAPTAIN FREDERICK GIDEON

Frederick Gideon was a soldier from the colonial era.

He had encountered the supernatural power beyond the Black Door centuries earlier.

When Gideon was resurrected in the present, he became obsessed with opening a permanent gateway between worlds.

Unlike Dodge, Gideon did not want to secretly manipulate the Lockes.

He wanted enormous power.

He wanted access to the demon dimension itself.

And he was willing to destroy Keyhouse to accomplish it.

SEASON THREE — THE FINAL BATTLE

The Locke family had survived Dodge.

But the keys were still scattered throughout Keyhouse.

The magic wasn't finished with them.

TYLER LEAVES THE MAGIC BEHIND

Tyler had become exhausted by everything that happened.

Because of the magical rules surrounding memory, he was approaching an age where he would naturally begin forgetting magic.

Rather than fighting that process, Tyler decided he wanted to live a normal life.

He left Matheson.

He began working in Montana.

But he still carried the memories and emotional scars of everything that happened.

KINSEY

Kinsey became one of the family's strongest protectors.

She was creative, brave, adventurous, compassionate, and increasingly confident.

She continued helping Bode and Nina while also working on her filmmaking.

Her experiences with fear, Dodge, Gabe, and the keys had completely changed her.

BODE AND THE SNOW GLOBE

Bode remained fascinated with Keyhouse.

He discovered the Snow Globe Key.

When the key was used with the magical snow globe, Keyhouse's grounds became trapped inside an enchanted winter environment.

But the snow globe contained something else.

Two demons were trapped inside.

Bode accidentally released them.

The situation became another reminder that even seemingly harmless magic could become dangerous.

THE ANIMAL KEY

The Animal Key allowed someone to pass through a magical animal door and transform into an animal.

Kinsey became a cat.

Bode became a sparrow.

It was one of the lighter moments in the family's final chapter.

But even this magic eventually became part of their decision about whether magic should continue existing in their lives.

THE TIMESHIFT KEY

Bode eventually discovered the Timeshift Key.

It opened the grandfather clock in Keyhouse.

The clock allowed people to observe events from the past.

They could witness history.

They could see their ancestors.

But the magic came with limitations.

The past could be observed without freely rewriting history.

Bode eventually used it to encounter his ancestors.

BENJAMIN AND MIRANDA LOCKE

Through the Timeshift Key, Bode encountered earlier generations of the Locke family.

Among them were Benjamin Locke and Miranda Locke.

Benjamin had created the Harlequin Key.

The Harlequin Key could protect objects inside a magical chest that became impossible to open without the proper means.

These encounters helped Bode understand that the Locke family's relationship with magic stretched back centuries.

ELLIE RETURNS

Ellie Whedon eventually returned to Matheson.

She had spent years trapped beyond the Black Door.

She had been separated from her son, Rufus, and forced to live with the consequences of everything she and Rendell had done when they were teenagers.

Ellie was traumatized but resilient.

She wanted her family back.

She wanted Rufus to have a normal life.

And she wanted to finally put the past behind her.

GORDIE SHAW

Another important figure was Gordie Shaw.

Gordie had been one of Rendell's childhood friends.

He had been involved with the old Keepers and possessed knowledge of the magical history surrounding the Locke family.

Most importantly, Gordie's mind contained secrets connected to the Creation Key.

Gordie became caught in Gideon's plans.

His story ended tragically when Gideon invaded his mind and caused his death.

THE CREATION KEY

The Creation Key was one of the final keys discovered.

It was created by Rendell.

It resembled a drawing instrument.

Anything drawn with it could become real.

This made it one of the most imaginative and powerful keys.

Kinsey and Tyler eventually used it during the final confrontation with Gideon.

GIDEON'S FINAL PLAN

Gideon gathered the keys necessary to reopen the connection between Earth and the demonic dimension.

He wanted to create a permanent gateway.

He believed the power beyond the Black Door belonged to him.

But the Locke family finally understood something Gideon did not.

The keys were not simply gifts.

They were created from material connected to demons.

Every key represented a connection between their world and that dark dimension.

The family's greatest victory would therefore require something they had spent three years refusing to do:

letting the magic go.

THE FINAL BATTLE

Gideon attacked Keyhouse.

The Lockes fought together.

Kinsey confronted him.

Tyler returned.

Bode fought alongside his family.

Nina, now fully aware of the magical world because of the Memory Key, stood with her children rather than being kept in the dark.

Gideon opened a portal.

The situation became increasingly unstable.

Kinsey eventually used the Alpha Key against Gideon.

The demon was driven out of Gideon's body.

Gideon fell into the portal.

Nina pushed him through.

For a moment, it appeared that everything was finally over.

But the portal began behaving strangely.

The Lockes realized why.

Gideon had taken magical keys with him into the demon dimension.

The connection between worlds was still open.

THE LOCKES' FINAL DECISION

Tyler, Kinsey, Bode, and Nina finally understood the truth.

As long as the magical keys remained in their world, there would always be a path between humanity and the demons.

So the Locke family gathered every remaining magical key.

They had spent generations protecting them.

They had fought for them.

They had risked their lives for them.

They had used them to heal, explore, protect one another, and uncover the truth.

But the keys had also caused:

  • death
  • possession
  • betrayal
  • grief
  • manipulation
  • destruction

The family finally decided that the magic had to end.

They used the portal as a doorway into the darkness and threw the keys inside.

One after another, the magical keys disappeared.

The portal closed.

And this time, it stayed closed.

RENDell'S FINAL GOODBYE

Before completely abandoning the magic, the Locke family used the Timeshift Key one final time.

They returned to the past.

They saw Rendell.

For Bode especially, this was deeply emotional.

Rendell had been dead for years.

The children had spent their entire journey dealing with his absence.

Now they had the opportunity to see him again.

But they couldn't keep him.

They had to let him remain where he belonged.

In the past.

The family said goodbye.

Then they returned home.

THE END OF THE LOCKE FAMILY'S MAGIC

The final magical keys were thrown into the portal.

The doorway closed.

Keyhouse became quiet.

For generations, magic had been part of the Locke family's identity.

Now it was gone.

But something remained.

Their memories.

Their relationships.

Their family.

The lessons they had learned.

And the knowledge that they had finally chosen one another over the magic.

The Locke family left Keyhouse behind with the understanding that the most important thing they had gained was never the power of the keys.

It was each other.

Kim was another member of Rendell's original group.

She was part of the group of teenagers who discovered the magic surrounding Keyhouse.

Her death became part of the tragedy that eventually forced Rendell to confront Lucas.

THE MAGICAL KEYS

There are numerous magical keys throughout the Locke family's history.

1. ANYWHERE KEY

Allows the user to travel through doors to other locations.

The destination must be a door the user can properly visualize.

2. ECHO KEY

It is connected to the Wellhouse.

Ellie used it to summon what she believed was Lucas.

Instead, she brought back Dodge.

The spirit becomes a ghost capable of moving around Keyhouse.

The door must remain open while the person is outside their body.

Inside are memories, emotions, fears, knowledge, and other aspects of personality.

The key can be used to remove or insert mental information.

5. MIRROR KEY

The shadows can physically interact with the world.

12. OMEGA KEY

21. HARLEQUIN KEY

Created by Benjamin Locke.

It protects objects hidden inside a magical harlequin chest.

The chest becomes effectively impossible to open without the proper magical means.

22. CREATION KEY

Created by Rendell Locke.

Anything drawn with the key can become real.

It is essentially a magical drawing instrument.

This becomes one of the final tools used against Gideon.

THE MOST IMPORTANT MAGICAL OBJECTS

THE CROWN OF SHADOWS

The Crown of Shadows is not itself a key.

When combined with the Shadow Key, however, it gives the wearer control over shadow creatures.

It becomes one of Dodge's most powerful tools.

THE BLACK DOOR

The Black Door is the gateway between the human world and the demonic dimension.

It is opened using the Omega Key.

The original Keepers accidentally unleashed the demonic influence that eventually created Dodge.

KEYHOUSE

Keyhouse is more than a mansion.

It is effectively the center of the Locke family's magical history.
