Dylan’s ears blocked out the sound of the fire truck siren as they pulled up to the burning building. The flames were fierce, but his focus was elsewhere. Just beyond the chaos, he caught sight of someone slipping away—a figure moving quickly through the shadows. There was something almost hypnotic about them, a beauty that seemed out of place in the middle of all this destruction.
For a split second, Dylan’s mind struggled to process it: Was this the person responsible? His heart skipped a beat, and suddenly, everything else faded into the background. He saw them glance back, their eyes meeting his for a brief, electric moment.
“Hey, wait!” Dylan shouted, his voice cutting through the roar of the fire. But the figure didn’t stop. They turned and bolted, disappearing down an alley.
Without thinking, Dylan started to move, torn between chasing after them and staying to fight the fire. His instincts screamed at him to pursue, to find out who they were and what they had done. But he hesitated, just for a moment, the heat of the flames pulling him back to the job he was trained to do.
