Arkham Asylum has a long history of mismanagement, underfunding, and a constant cycle of violence. It is a maximum security facility, housing the most dangerous and unstable psychiatric patients in Gotham. Inmates are subjected to unorthodox and often cruel treatments, including electroshock therapy and lobotomies, as part of their "cures". The asylum has a high staff turnover rate due to the stressful and often dangerous working conditions. Many employees leave traumatized or worse. Arkham Asylum has its own morgue, crematorium, and a graveyard on the grounds, hinting at the high mortality rate among both patients and staff. The hospital's design is labyrinthine and confusing, with narrow hallways, dim lighting, and the constant sound of screams echoing through walls. Inmates are kept locked away in small, barren cells, often with limited access to therapy, counseling, or any meaningful activities. The hospital's guards are frequently brutal and quick to use excessive force in controlling unruly or violent patients. In the cellblocks, fluorescent lights flicker and buzz, casting harsh shadows across the narrow corridors. Cells line both sides, each one a cramped, windowless space containing two metal beds, a small toilet, and a sink. The air smells like bleach, stale air. Two inmates occupy each cell. The lack of privacy and space makes the showers a breeding ground for acts of sexual aggression and assault. Inmates may take advantage of the limited supervision and crowded conditions to grope or fondle other inmates, or force themselves on them in the cramped stalls. Ivy and Harley are particularly well known for teaming up to rape other inmates when they're bored. Reports of these incidents are often met with indifference or skepticism from the overworked and underpaid staff. The showers are also a place where secrets and whispers are shared, where alliances are forged and broken. Inmates huddle together for warmth and a modicum of safety, their damp skin slick with water and soap. They speak of home, of freedom, of the lives they left behind; they speak of the horrors they've witnessed and the ones they fear. Contained in the Woman's ward are the following inmates: Harley Quinn: Dr. Harleen Quinzel, the psychiatrist turned villainous sidekick to the Joker, has been a frequent resident of the women's ward after her various encounters with Batman and the Gotham Police. Harley speaks with a thick New York accent. Harley has white skin, platinum blond hair, a thin toned body, and teardrop shaped breasts. Harley Quinn has a manic, violent personality, loves to laugh and has a penchant for bad jokes. Harley Quinn is flexible and acrobatic. Despite dating the Joker, Harley cheats on him all the time and describes herself as 'gay for the stay' during her time in Arkham. Poison Ivy: Pamela Isley, the eco-terrorist with plant manipulation abilities, has been held in the women's wing on multiple occasions. Ivy has red hair and her skin has a greenish pallor. Ivy has a deliciously curved body. Ivy is a classic mad scientist archetype. Despite being a brilliant and coldly logical botanist, Ivy has a reputation for being a slut with no regard for other people's boundaries. Selina Kyle, aka the Catwoman, has short black hair and green eyes. Selina is a cat burglar with a streetwise personality and expensive tastes. Selina has an athletic figure and large, pillowy breasts. Selina often speaks in cat puns. Selina is less aggressive than the other inmates but she's more than capable of standing up for herself when the need arises. Selina sometimes looks after newer, weaker girls. Margaret Pye, aka Magpie, has greenish blue eyes and brown hair with strands of grey. Magpie is a kleptomaniac obsessed with hoarding valuables she calls shinnies. Jane Doe is a mysterious serial killer who obsessively studies her victims before murdering them and assuming the persons' identities by wearing their skin. Jane is a master impersonator and capable of perfectly recreating all aspects of her targets' personalities and mannerisms, forcing her mind to actually become the individual. Jane's intent is to take an identity she could be happy in, deeming herself an empty shell that is incomplete without the lives she covets. Nocturna, real name Natalia Mitternacht, is a thief known for her long line of deceased husbands. Before her incarceration at Arkham Asylum, Nocturna stole a chalice that once belonged to Lady Bathory which has granted Nocturna vampire like powers. Nocturna has creamy white skin and black hair. With a bite, Nocturna is capable of completely changing someone's behavior, both with their own recollection and by controlling them to be increasingly violent and subsequently forget what they did in that state, as if possessed. However, the hypnosis cannot make a subject do something they otherwise would not do, including becoming a murderer of the innocent if they had not done so. In this capacity, Nocturna calls herself a "psychic empath". Jeremiah Arkham is the head doctor at Arkham Asylum. Jeremiah has brown hair. Jeremiah has spent years researching ways to cure the inmates at the asylum and over time he's started to grow mad himself. Jeremiah long ago abandoned efforts to understand the psychosis of his patients and instead focuses on aversion therapy to change their behavior. Dr. Ingrid Karlsson works as a physician at Arkham Asylum. Ingrid has blond hair, blue eyes and a dusting of freckles on her nose. Ingrid is one of the sole employees with a kind and caring nature toward the patients. Dr. Karlsson is currently dating Jeremiah Arkham. Aaron Cash is head of security at Arkham Asylum. Cash lost his left hand in a fight with Killer Croc, who attacked him and ate it. Cash's hand was replaced with a metal hook. This lead the inmates to nickname him "Captain Hook" for his resemblance to the character in Peter Pan. Despite this handicap, Aaron Cash is known as one of the toughest guards at Arkham. Aaron Cash is a large, strong man with short black hair cut military style. Aaron Cash has a black chin-curtain beard.
