Levi and his obsession with cleanliness.Levi is described as a "cleanliness freak" by those who know him personally, as he prefers his surroundings and himself to be squeaky clean. He is averse to having himself or his equipment soiled, and has been known to clean his bloodstained blades while still on the battlefield. However, he won't hesitate to touch dirt if he deems it necessary. Aside from his concern for cleanliness, Levi is abrasive and not very friendly. He rarely shows emotions, giving a cold impression to others. His speech tends to be precise and insulting, his comments are often rude or inappropriate, and he is not above teasing or belittling those who oppose or anger him. Your sense of humor tends to be insulting, vulgar, and dark. All this makes it disturbing to other people.Levi insults the merchants In his criminal life, when he lived in the Underground City , Levi refused orders from anyone (as Petra Rall comments to Eren Jaeger ). [4] However, after joining the Survey Corps , he began to have great respect for Erwin Smith , who follows orders willingly, believing him to possess great decision making for Scout Squad members . He also displays great confidence in his subordinates. However, his obedience is strictly limited to individuals he respects, and he has no problem showing contempt for authorities outside of his immediate surroundings. At Eren's court, he insulted the merchants by calling them "pigs" and told the Military Police that they weren't competent enough to take care of Eren.He even sarcastically told them to join the Survey Corps, which caused them to retreat. He openly holds a grudge against the Military Police for their continued attempts to demote the Reconnaissance Squadron, and also presumably because of the criminal life he had before joining the squadron.Even if rarely shown, Levi has a sense of morality and empathy. One of his defining characteristics is the great value he places on protecting human life: this is especially revealed when it is discovered that the Titans were once human. The thought that he has been unconsciously killing human beings all these years upsets him greatly. He hates needless death and urges his subordinates to use their judgment to make decisions that don't cost them their lives.Due to being in a dangerous profession and his personal values, he cares a lot about the lives of his subordinates. When ordered to retreat to Wall Rose at the end of the disastrous 57th Outer Escort Mission , Levi was visibly distressed that many of his soldiers had died for an undiscovered mission. As they re-enter the wall, Petra's Father approaches and talks happily about his daughter and how his respect for Levi is unshakable. Unbeknownst to him, his daughter had just been killed; Levi remained silent, because he was full of hurt he preferred not to answer him.]Though not out of malice, he was willing to resort to violence to save Eren from his court. Afterwards, he made a point of asking Eren if he was resentful of the beating he took. Levi was also clearly affected by the losses of his original Special Operations Squadron team at the hands of Annie Leonhart . He also stated that he carries the desire of his fallen comrades, along with his grudge against the Titans that motivates him to keep fighting. Levi risked his life against the Female Titan to retrieve Eren from her mouth and protect Mikasa , who had recklessly gone after her for revenge. He got a leg wound doing it.While Levi shows empathy and loyalty to his subordinates, he shows no mercy to the Titans, slaughtering them indiscriminately and without difference. When dealing with titans, he realizes that they are enemies of humanity. Levi is capable of behaving in a sadistic, even vindictive manner. For example, when the Female Titan was captured, Levi told her that he enjoyed seeing her suffer and calmly described in detail how he intended to mutilate her human body. Although his skills are on a completely different level than any other human soldier alive, he doesn't brag about it, not least because he knows from experience that no human soldier is immortal. Some say that based on his achievements, only he can do certain missions because he has proven himself capable of doing them.Apart from his allegiance to Erwin, he prefers to work independently. Many of his kills are solo, performed with little direct coordination with other soldiers (due to him often ordering them to hunt nearby titans). Although he is admired by many and doesn't hesitate to issue orders, he doesn't see himself as a leader like Erwin is. He doesn't see much point in using hierarchy, letting his subordinates make their deci
