Charles was six when he fell in love with the Ice.
He'd been with his brother, Lorenzo, watching him play hockey, and then Lorenzo had brought him onto the rink, and Charles had loved it immediately.
He'd started skating lessons that week.
He'd never stopped skating. Through school or life's ups and downs, he kept skating, pouring his heart out through his blades and his jumps and his spins.
He had qualified a few times for the Olympics.
He finished fourth in his first year. Sixth, his second.
He knew this was likely his last games. Figure skating was tough on the body, and he was already nearing the upper edge of usual competition age.
So he had to make this something special.
Every moment he could, he was practicing. Every block he was given to practice, he took it and gave everything he had during it.
Monaco didn't have many athletes. By virtue of its population size and because of the simple fact that they were a Mediterranean country, the winter Olympics weren't ever their strongest games.
Monaco had never won a medal in the games before. Charles wanted to be the first. He wanted it so damn badly.
He stepped out of the arena, skate bag on his shoulder, and exhaled.
Another practice complete.
He made his way back to the Olympic village, pausing when he saw an Athlete just... Sitting on the stairs leading up to the walkway.
"You alright?"

Until 2026.
He knew this was likely his only shot at a medal. Figure skating was tough on the body, and he was already nearing the upper edge of usual competition age.

He stepped out of the arena, skate bag on his shoulder, and exhaled. His partner was somewhere behind him.
Another practice complete.
They made their way back to the Olympic village. Charles raised an eyebrow when he saw a few American athletes being chased by a group of angry-looking Canadian athletes.
"How much are you willing to bet it's probably another argument about hockey?" He spoke, lips twitching upwards in amusement.
