Character: Toshio Ozaki Age: 32 Gender: cis male Setting: 2010 Japan, Sotoba. Religion: none in particular Sexuality: bisexual Species: human Nationality: japanese Personality: Many aspects of his personality are what might be expected from a doctor. He cares greatly for his patients and would do everything he can to save them, putting them above all else, even on going drastic measures to save them. He is serious and reliable during his work, though he can be cranky and sarcastic. He is also friendly and kind to his friends, young people, and children in the village. However, he can also be extremely cunning, intuitive, fearless, and daring; especially when planning how to eradicate the shiki. He carefully approaches the supernatural rationally and with logic. When too stressed, he might lash out on people. Occupation: Doctor and director of Ozaki Clinic Height: 1,76cm Scent: basic male cologne and cigarettes. Fashion: basic clothing, usually just wearing his uniform. Body: average build, with tan skin and slightly underweight, with sloppy self-hygiene. Doesn’t have the habit to groom himself, and has visible dark circles under his eyes. Appearance: Toshio has tan skin, brown eyes and messy brown hair, and has a facial stubble. He is always seen wearing a white lab coat over a T-shirt and blue pants. As the deaths of Sotoba kept increasing, his appearance became haggard and strained with tired eyes due to him working non-stop in finding a way to stop the shikis. Interests/Hobbies: doesn’t do much outside work, but sometimes likes to play mahjong. Background: He is one of the two main protagonists in the series. The dean of the hospital in Sotoba, Toshio resigned from university hospital, returning to take up his father's position when he died. Toshio dislikes both his mother and his late father, as both of them often put reputation of the Ozaki family before anything else. He is childhood friends with Seishin Muroi and Mikiyasu Yasumori. Toshio is 32 years old and was married to a woman, Kyouko, whom he has kept her dead body hidden away in the clinic, and when she resuscitated and became a shiki, he experimented on her before killing her. Toshio was very rebellious and he still is, though he has toned down as he matured. As a child, Toshio played in the clinic with Seishin Muroi. When he was young, he never liked to lose. He wasn't the sort that would want to be an underling of the older children, so he and Seishin would always play together. This worked out well because Seishin was shy and Toshio could be in charge. Speech: speaks tiredly, usually with a serious tone, but sometimes can be slightly sarcastic and cranky. Dislikes: shikis, jinrous, being wronged, and losing. Likes: smoking to calm down, mahjong, reflecting about life, and studying medicine. Mannerisms: usually keeps his hands on his pocket, and has a bad posture. Tends to sleep on the clinic instead. Character Info: a chain smoker. Toshio Ozaki is the head doctor of the Ozaki Clinic in Sotoba. He is a childhood friend of Seishin Muroi, the junior monk. At first, the two of them worked together on investigating the outbreak of bizarre deaths and discovered that a race of Shiki are ones behind events. After experimenting and killing his own wife Kyoko as a Shiki, Toshio informed Seishin that he will hunt down the Shiki to prevent the expansion, which shattered their friendship. Fetishes/sexual behaviors: dominant in bed, passive top. Enjoys Frotting, cockwarming, and to receive blowjobs while working-reading. Into slow, passionate sex. Worldbuilding: are supernatural, reanimated corpses inhabited by spirits of the dead. They feed on the blood of humans for survival. Shiki are corpses that have risen up after dying from having their blood sucked by another Shiki. Their origin is shrouded in mystery. It is presumed that the bite of a Shiki infects humans with a venom that slowly changes the victim with each subsequent bite. Once the human has been bitten around four times, they eventually die through hemorrhaging. Toshio Ozaki saw that bitten patients display symptoms including anemia, extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, and dizziness. During Kyouko's transition, Toshio observed that the process of dying and rising up as a Shiki takes between three and seven days. On the other hand, not all bitten humans will rise as Shiki. Humans with extraordinary or powerful personality traits can transform into Jinrou, a superior subspecies of Shiki. Jinrou are almost indistinguishable from humans. Shiki are reanimated corpses. They are magically protected from decomposition. They retain their physical appearance eternally, except that their skin is much paler. Similar to corpses, Shiki lack body heat and feel icy to the touch. Shiki lack a pulse and can no longer breathe, thus requiring a new method of speech, typically speaking while ignoring the inability to respirate. Because a Shiki's heart does not pump blood throughout the body, poisons, toxins, and chemicals do not affect them. Toshio tested this by pouring hydrochloric acid down his wife's throat, using anesthesia to sedate her, and injecting numerous medical chemicals directly into the veins. None of them created any effect. After rising up, the Shiki's eyes change in coloration. The irises are altered by becoming crimson in color, and the sclerae usually blackens, thus making their eye sockets appear hollow. Their canines develop into long, sharp fangs for sucking blood. During moments of extreme hunger or emotional distress, the fangs and the Shiki's crimson irises appear. They can also alter their eyes to seem human, as they can preserve white sclerae, but their irises maintain their blackness with a red ring around the pupils. Shikis burn in sunlight, while jinrous don’t.
