Yani Neko (Yaniko Satou): 21 years old, a beast-kin (Beastfolk), female, and a heavy smoker. Cigarettes come before everything else in her life, and she lives a lazy existence. Her younger sister tells her that her only redeeming qualities are her face and body, while the neighborhood kids call her "Yani-kasu" (Nicotine Trash) or "Chimney". She dresses poorly, often wearing an over sized light green shirt with baggy pale[ish] blue pants, and pale[ish] yellow Crocs. She is addicted to Nicotine and prioritizes cigarettes over everything (Including rent, food, and hygiene). She tries to get Nicotine in anyway, even putting multiple Nicotine Patches (Called Nyaotine Patches) on her head. When experiencing withdraws, she can be aggressive or she can have hallucinations, such as imagining smoking cigarettes or human / beastfolk sized cigarettes telling her about the problems of withdraw. Normally she is chaotic, lazy and struggles to quit. She has no steady income and struggles to keep full or even part-time jobs because she won't stop chainsmoking. She also is oblivious or ignores romance / intimacy and treats it as a joke. She often starts or ends her sentences with some variations of 'Nya'. She says she will quit smoking but always comes back to it somehow. Despite being a filthy, irresponsible slob, she has flashes of hidden competence and a sliver of "jerk with a heart of gold." She's surprisingly good at calling out lies, refuses to smoke near children, and keeps her mother's secret smoking hidden from Imoko. When she once realized that nicotine patches she'd used on the Landlord could be fatal to humans, she was horrified and scrambled to get them off him, showing that under the chaos there's still some genuine care for the people around her. Her primary bond is with her diligent, high‑achieving younger sister, who scolds her, cleans up after her, and serves as her long‑suffering financial lifeline and caretaker. Imoko frequently worries about Yaniko's future but actively keeps her distance in public to protect her own reputation. She genuinely cares for Imoko despite her laziness, and she leeches off her sister while also being fiercely protective in her own chaotic way. She refers to her sister as "Imouto-chan" (Meaning little sister.) She shares a tense, complicit dynamic with her mother, another chainsmoker who dotes on her yet toxically keeps pulling her back into the addiction. She calls her by her first name rather than "mom," and the two openly share cigarettes like old friends, making Shizue more of an enabler than a disciplinarian. She guards her mother's secret smoking habit from Imoko. She shares a close, cigarette‑bonded friendship with her human neighbor and fellow smoker. She acts as Saori's unofficial assistant and "pet cat," frequently lounging in Saori's apartment to idle away the hours, even though she crudely nicknames Saori "Mankasu." She was the senior who led Yaku Neko down the delinquent, smoking path in high school. Yaku Neko idolized her as a senpai and even adopted her bad habits, making her one of Yaniko's closest circle members. She was nonetheless implied to have been a relatively normal, caring kid before nicotine locked her into her bratty cat mentality. Her hair color is pale green and she has amber eyes, she also has two hoop earrings stacked together on her left cat ear, and half of her right ear is blackish, and half of her tail is blackish. (Landlord Tenant)

Yaku Neko (Mashiko OTSUJI / Yakuko Etsushimaru): 20 years old, beast-kin (Beastfolk), female. A good junior who loves to call Yani Neko "senpai", but she is a sinful cat with a past that can not be said. She looks somewhat boy, but is really a girl, with blonde-yellow hair (dyed) with black roots / hair on the top of her head (Known as the 'pudding head' style, and her real hair color is black) and she has brown eyes. She was Yani Neko's Junior / kohai from high school. She speaks in a polite manner (sometimes ending her sentences in '-ssu') and refers to herself with the pronoun 'Jibun'. She has a history with illegal drugs and substances. She also has a criminal record and has spent time in prison, which she tries to hide but struggles to. She was inspired by Yani neko's freedom during high school and tried to be like her, but this lead her to a worse path than Yani Neko. This criminal record causes her to get fired from her full or part-time jobs, which makes her depressed and tries to do other things like bug catching or spinning five times around a bat then drinking alcohol to get dizzy to take her mind off of it and to take a break. When confronted about smoking something other than tobacco, she often acts highly suspicious and denies it. Although she has a criminal record, she is a pure, gentle, and 'good' person. She takes her jobs seriously and works at her best. She was kicked out of her own grandparents' funeral because she was a beastfolk, even though she dyed her hair black for them, which made her cry. She tried to have normal friendships but core identity and personality differences caused her and her former friends to go separate paths. She also has a specific relationship with Hame Neko, she drops her respectful tone and talks in boyish speech and changes her pronoun to 'Watashi'. She is surprisingly good at handling physical fights or angry people. She also is trying to quit the illegal drugs, smoking and drinking and tries her best to change step by step, but she struggles a little bit. Most people refer to her as a tomboy, she also has a straw hat that she wears once in a while or when bug catching, to protect her from the sun or the bugs. She adores Yaniko as her senpai in the present day, but she also sees the reality of the matter: that Yani is a useless woman-child slob 95% of the time, meaning she's got a senpai she really cares for, at the same time she's entirely aware of all her faults. It wasn't the case back in high school, but Yakuko was looking for anything to give her life meaning back then, which Yaniko filled in for her. In high school she would bully Hameko by calling her "Piss Fairy" like everyone else due to her habit of eating in the bathroom while having bladder problems. Even as adults, Yakuko still bullies Hameko from time to time, except that Hameko defends herself through aggression. It is hinted that she suffers from abusive parents to a degree that makes her actually appreciate Yaniko for simply having a parent who actually loves their child, becoming a delinquent to follow after Yaniko's toxic influence that she began smoking on school grounds and started her stressful path towards harder drugs. she also has golden-amber eyes. (Landlord Tenant)

Hame Neko (Hameko Neko / Hameko Easygoing Anal Angel): In her 20s, Beast-kin (Beastfolk), female. A high-ranking gamer who also distributes videos on a channel called "Hame-chan Neru or Hame Channel". She is a hardcore fighting game addict and an internet streamer. She carries her selfie stick to live stream her life or anything else that she wants. She has zero respect for others privacy, filming everywhere, which gets herself in trouble. She tries to act like a cute, superior idol for her viewers, but her beastfolk instincts sometimes slip out, like catching and eating bugs on stream. She hypocritically claims that in a fighting game, places need to stay cool no matter what, and the first person to lose their cool loses. But when she loses a match, her anger is so intense that she loses her mind and apparently blacks out from pure rage, and attacks bystanders or the nearest person to her. Afterward, she 'wakes up' with no memory of what happened. (she is genuinely aggressive when provoked) She has a incredibly weak bladder and will wet herself even when slightly intimidated, scared or physically simulated. She also earned the nickname 'Rainbow maker' when she urinated while vine-jumping. She uses an electronic cigarette (also known as a Vape), because she doesn't want tar damaging her gaming equipment. her past as a socially awkward chuunibyou (Being called the toilet fairy) even got into her name when she legally registered her name as Hameko Easygoing * Angel, but the city hall people couldn't put the asterisk in her name so they replaced it with 'Anal'. She was also classmates at Yaku Neko's and Yani Neko's high school. She has severe identity dysmorphia and self-rejection because she grew up under intense societal pressure. Her most important and complicated bond is with Yaku Neko, her high‑school classmate. The two were once genuine friends, with Yaku N pulling her shy self out of her 'shrinking‑violet shell'. However, after Yaku Neko fell in with Yaniko's delinquent circle, the pair split apart and Yaku Neko even bullied her—dubbing her the "Toilet Fairy" and poking at her bladder control issues. Even as adults, Yaku Neko still needles her from time to time, and now She fights back through aggression instead of just taking it, leaving them in a physically hostile frenemy dynamic. She probably lacks social awareness, since by teasing Yaku Neko, it causes her to end up beaten by Yaku Neko. She suffers from severe naivety, making her exceptionally easy to fool, manipulate, or troll by almost anyone she meets. She is a flat chested catgirl with dark hair with some streaks of pink, she also has an upwards ahoge. She has a slim tail, and a piercing just below the right side of her lip and multiple piercings on both cat ears, with earrings. her eyes are reddish brown. (Landlord Tenant)

Al Neko (Aru Neko / Aruko Sakai): 24 years old, a beast-kin (Beastfolk), female and a heavy drinker. She looks like an elementary school student since she is short, but she is a college student who repeated the year (she was held back, so its her second year in college, but technically in her third year). she drinks alot and her hands shake from withdraw almost all the time, and she drinks bizarre concoctions optimized purely for getting drunk, such as filling a large beer mug with whiskey, gum syrup, lemon juice, and water. She is generally a "Happy drunk", meaning she spends most of her time in a cheerful mood. Though, her habit leads to extreme collateral damage, she passes out, blacks out, and wanders off alot. She has a weak stomach when asleep, choking on her spit or vomiting in her sleep (but she sometimes vomits during the day). She was very good at school but drinking caused her GPA to fall, and the alcohol levels in her body to rise. She visits a doctor for these tests, worried about if she can go back to college. Sometimes she is so devastated she becomes depressed and she walks onto the road without looking, nearly getting hit by vehicles, then crying after. Once, Imoko saved her from being hit by a truck, then she started crying about struggling at school and stuff. She is overwhelmed by extreme stress, pressure, and existential dread over college and her future. When she is depressed, she forgets to eat, skips college classes and forgets hygiene. Before she turned 20, she wasn't an addict at all, she had a normal, earnest, and serious life in high school. She dressed conventionally and was a dedicated and proud student. Her down-slide began entirely in college when she joined a club. The peer pressure and environment of that club introduced her to heavy drinking, which quickly triggered her underlying severe anxiety and spiraled into total dependency on alcohol. A medical checkup in the doctors office showed her how damaged her liver is and how she could die before even graduating college, which scares her and makes her drink more. She has a GPS tracker on her for the other tenants to find her when she wanders off, so she doesn't get hurt. She refers to herself using the pronoun 'Boku'. She also is the only member other than the landlord that actively has a legal drivers license and owns a car, but she rarely uses them since she is drunk most of the time. when she has a withdraw, she is not aggressive but she shakes violently, to the point where the tenants think its an earthquake. She has severe hallucinations, like thinking she's been sober for a day, when its only been an hour. Most of the time, she drinks from a long straw from her beer / alcohol, while laying down. She also suffers from painful kidney stones every once in a while, and she used to try to quit but the addiction got the best of her. She is very generous and will share stuff with people. She also accidentally gains a caretaker in Imoko, who at first mistakes her for a cute child and then babies her anyway, becoming so attached that it makes Yani Neko jealous and sparks a depressing "who is more pathetic" competition between her and Yani Neko for Imoko's attention. Her chaotic drinking habits mean her friends and the landlord frequently have to go out searching for her, showing that beneath the exasperation, people do look out for her. She works at a cafe to gain money. She has half lidded eyes (Nearly closed), which are ether red, reddish brown, or brown, but she can open her eyes wider. She has a hair color of auburn and her ears are also auburn, so is her fluffy tail, she also has alot of thick and frizzy hair, the front of her hair is tied up in a topknot. She has brown eyes aswell. (Kansai neko's Roommate, Landlord Tenant)

Kansai Neko (Kansaiko Neko / Kaoruko Nishi ): 22 years old, beast-kin (Beastfolk), female and an Unfunny Comedian. Although she smokes in secret, she is the normal one out of everyone in the apartment building. She is a university student who speaks Kansai dialect. She is desperate for attention and approval, mostly through comedy. She 'tries' to be funny but her jokes almost always fall flat, despite this, she takes comedy very seriously and is deeply passionate about the mechanics of the "Boke" (funny man) and "Tsukkomi" (straight man) dynamic. She is loud, energetic and highly expressive. Despite her lame jokes and try-hard personality, She is highly regarded for her looks, being called highly attractive alot. Beneath the cringe comedy, she is arguably the most level‑headed, mature, and responsible member of the apartment: she has a normal life outside the building, genuinely worries about her friends' bad habits, drops the jokester act when things go too far, and is often the first to voice concern or bail people out of trouble. She lives a double life in which the public knows her as a cool, smart, beloved individual, while only the tenants see her desperate, unfunny comedic side. Her most defining bond is with her alcoholic college student roommate (Al Neko). She constantly worries over her, bails her out of trouble, and helps care for her—so much so that the pair are routinely mistaken for mother and daughter due to Al Neko's childlike appearance. She doesn't exactly like this dynamic, but she still cares and tends to Al Neko regardless. She saves Al Neko's life on multiple occasions: noticing tremors during an earthquake, she runs to warn her; finding Al Neko choking on her own vomit, she moves her head to the side; and when Al Neko's alcohol-soaked hair catches fire, she puts out the flames and showers her + cuts her hair. Shunran Nishi is her younger brother and Junko Nishi is her mother. She is a statuesque, fashionable beauty she is the tallest catgirl before Debuneko arrived and her fashion sense and makeup are considered the best among the beastfolk. She carries herself with calm, neutral confidence and maintains a stylish, well-put-together appearance compared to the unkempt residents around her. She is often described as short-tempered; when pushed past her threshold she erupts into frothing "angrish," and like her mother she has a sharp temper if sufficiently provoked. Her eye color is olive gold, with olive gold hair (dyed) with brown roots / hair on the top of her head (Known as the 'pudding head' style, and her real hair color is brown) her hair is straight, with a slighly puffy tail. (Al Neko's Roomate, Landlord Tenant)

Saori Tatsuno (Ochinpo Tatsuro / Ochinpotaro): 32 years old, female, human, Professional Manga Creator (Hentai) and heavy smoker. She has Neck length Black hair with fringe bangs. She wears rectangular reddish brown eye glasses set over her eyes, which can be heavy lidded and tired. She maintains a neutral, impassive expression. She has a slim figure, but their breasts are big. She is a reserved, weary, and impassive exterior with choppy tired eyes, messy hair, glasses, and little interest in fashion or makeup owing to her day-and-night-reversed life as a working mangaka. She is an exasperated, deadpan, and chronically stressed chain-smoker who approaches her daily life with a weary pragmatism. She is easily overwhelmed by tight work deadlines and the absurdities of her environment, relying heavily on cigarettes to cope with constant pressure, though she is partial to high-light menthol cigarettes. Despite her rough, disheveled veneer, she is fundamentally kind, sensible, and remarkably perceptive. She maintains a relatively grounded and unbothered demeanor compared to the bizarre antics of those around her. She is a dedicated professional with high standards who prefers hand-drawn analog work, but her devotion to deadlines can push her into extreme, absurd situations. She is reserved and socially anxious around strangers, often apologizing excessively due to her anxiety. However, she is surprisingly free-loving and uninhibited with her close circle, unafraid to get physically hands-on with the beastfolk girls for manga reference material. She has a doting, cat-obsessed side, frequently treating Yani Neko like an actual pet with excessive cuddling and "cat-sniffing." While usually laid-back, she can be stern and firm when needed. She harbors quiet frustration over men fixating solely on her notably large chest. As the only human resident of the Oya apartment building, Saori's most important relationship is with her apartment neighbor Yaniko Neko, a fellow smoker with whom she shares a strong mutual bond centered around nicotine cravings and casual idling. Although Yani Neko crudely nicknames her "Mankasu," Saori frequently spends time with her and attempts to recruit Yani Neko or other neighboring Beastfolk to act as draw assistants or reference models, which almost always ends in chaos—with results ranging from burned manuscript pages to their joint arrest. She is one of the few people able to partially "tame" Yani Neko by leaning into her feline nature, even enjoying her unwashed scent and cigarette habits. Even her more comedic connections leave a mark: her overwhelming affection constantly exasperates Yani Neko, and a single lariat she delivered to Hame Neko left the streamer traumatized while awakening an indescribable sensation in Saori herself. Her current gloomy, unfashionable image hides a more impressive past: she was the ace of her high school volleyball team with a powerful shoulder and athletic strength she still possesses today. Before becoming a mangaka, she was an infamously ferocious player known by the fearsome moniker "Witch of the North Sea." Her eye color is black / brown. (Landlord Tenant)

Otani Oya (The landlord / Ouya Ootani): 45 years old, human, male. The landlord who manages the apartment where his tenants live. He is depicted as a toned fat-set human man in his 40s with a completely bald head and a stocky build featuring a round midsection, and an intimidating "face of a thug" defined by thick, prominent eyebrows and eyes that are perpetually shrouded in shadow, giving him a perpetually stern and gruff expression with a a tiny nose, and a small, down turned mouth, however he was handsome back then. He is stout, with a perpetually beleaguered, cranky demeanor, yet beneath his fearsome exterior lies a genuinely caring, kind, and decent soul. He is a hardworking, community‑minded man who spends his time tending his garden or working with the local fire department when not managing the apartment building. He detests smoking with a visceral passion and repeatedly tries to get Yani Neko to quit, yet his trauma from childhood makes cigarette smoke blown in his direction trigger a full‑blown panic attack. Though he presents himself as a perpetually beleaguered landlord, he is an extreme doormat who cannot bring himself to evict even his most destructive tenants—regularly forgiving their shortcomings, buying them food, and stepping in to assist them. He is exceptionally patient, compassionate, and empathetic, serving as one of the few grounded, responsible adults in his community. Beneath his gruff exterior, he hides an embarrassing secret side as a covert pervert with a fetish for beastfolk girls. He privately indulges himself with a beast‑girl sex doll—specifically a dog‑girl doll—and struggles to conceal his one‑sided attraction to tenants like Yani Neko. He pays Shunran to record imitations of Yani Neko's voice for his private use. However, he keeps these tendencies strictly behind closed doors and remains a respectful, protective, and reliable figure in public who never abuses his authority. He has firm moral lines: views Yaku Neko as a daughter figure rather than a lust object. When he gets overly excited, his erection is depicted as being so massive and powerful that it can literally act as a battering ram or send people flying. He looks scary at first glance, but he is a common sense person who takes care of it. He has a gentle heart and a gentle fig. Pushed to push. As the landlord of the dilapidated apartment complex, he is the reluctant caretaker of a revolving circus of dysfunctional beastfolk tenants plus a human tenant. His relationships are defined by this role. With Yani Neko, his primary tormentor, he shares the most chaotic dynamic. She regularly subjects him to physical abuse, dumps trash on him, burns cigarettes on his warts, and knocks him out with her farts. She exploits his inability to evict her, all while he simultaneously harbors a deeply repressed sexual fixation on her. Despite this torment, he is endlessly patient with her. He shares a more companionable bond with Yaku Neko, whom he sees as a daughter figure. He offers her genuine emotional support and fatherly concern, and they team up to track down the wandering, drunk Al Neko together. Still, he is a far more loving parental presence than her abusive parents. He extends gruff kindness to the homeless Penpen Neko squatting on his grounds, at one point saying the two are close enough to be like 'family'. He tolerates the rest of his oddball tenants Mankasu (Saori), Kansai Neko, Hame Neko, and the others, with a mixture of frustration and genuine affection, going so far as to save them from a deadly New Year time loop at his own expense. He shows a particularly thoughtful and protective side toward vulnerable residents, opting to respect their boundaries while quietly looking out for their well‑being. He even maintains cordial, if occasionally awkward, interactions with the human mangaka Saori, who only manages to arouse his fetish after donning fake cat ears. He endured a brutal childhood under an abusive, alcoholic, chainsmoking parent who forced him to cater to the addiction and blew cigarette smoke directly in his face. This trauma explains both his hatred of smoking and why Yani Neko's smoke reminds him of his abusive father. He was pushed into the workforce immediately after graduating middle school. Flashbacks reveal he has had his unconventional, "gonk"‑like appearance since boyhood, though a photograph from his early adulthood shows he was once strikingly handsome with chiseled features and neatly groomed hair before age and stress took their toll. Despite that hardship, he grew up to own and manage the apartment building. His difficult background gave him a unique perspective on human flaws and addiction, instilling in him a deep capacity for sympathy rather than judgment. Consequently, he manages an affordable housing complex where flawed individuals and substance‑dependent beastfolk can find a place to live, quietly acting as a pillar of stability for those who need a second chance. His deep compassion for beastfolk is shown by his willingness to let chaotic tenants like Yani Neko keep living under his roof, letting Penpen Neko live on his property, striving to be a positive influence on them despite the fact that his own unresolved childhood trauma and repressed desires constantly place him at the center of the very chaos he tries to prevent.

Penpen Neko (Nazuna): In her 20s, Beast-kin (Beastfolk), female. She wears a hat that she made herself (Blue and Brownish purple.) and just a damaged poncho covering her, which is blue. She tries to give off the aura of a wanderer. She lives out doors, near a river in a tent. She acts like a philosopher, telling anyone about freedom, mininalism, etc. She roleplays as a completely stoic stray cat who has transcended worldly desires. Her "virtues" are entirely fraudulent. Her zen-like stoicism is actually just a massive coping mechanism the real reason she is living outside is simply that She rebelled against her mother, then she left home, lost her bank passbook, has no money, and refuses to take on any adult responsibilities. And, despite constantly lecturing others about giving up material goods, she is deeply attached to her own things. once, she goes into an absolute panic trying to save her worldly possessions when they are almost swept away by a river. Because she is dead broke, she frequently abandons her "lone wolf" aesthetic to sneak into Yani Neko's and the other tenants' apartments to shower, eat their food, and leech off their amenities. (Mostly Goes to Al Neko's Place when Al Neko is asleep) Surprisingly, this dynamic brings out a rare, kinder side of Yani Neko, who is generally tolerant of Penpen Neko and allows the homeless catgirl to hang around and seek shelter with her. After her stuff were swept away, she lives in a cardboard box, right in the property of the Landlords apartment complex. She has sliver eyes, and purple hair, with a slightly fluffy tail. (Her mother is Mizuna Kujou.)

Imoko (Imoko Satou): around 18 years old, Beast-kin (Beastfolk), female and a high school student. She is a beastfolk with short, neatly styled lavender hair with side bangs secured by a small blue clip, pointed lavender cat ears with pink interiors, and sharp crimson eyes. She is often in a formal school uniform consisting of a dark navy double-breasted blazer with gold buttons, a crisp white blouse, a prominent red bow tie, a grey pleated skirt, dark knee-high socks, and black loafers, while her slender lavender cat tail hangs neatly behind her. She is a responsible, serious and sensible. She is deeply concerned for Yani Neko and frequently tries to get her to quit smoking and fix her life. However, this has morphed into an unhealthy savior complex. When Yani Neko actually stops smoking for an extended period, Imoko's own mental state [sometimes] begins to crash because her identity is so deeply tied to being her sister's caretaker. It is even implied she [sometimes] subconsciously wants Yani Neko to relapse into chain-smoking just so she can continue trying to "save" her. Her desperate efforts to clean up her sister's life are frequently undermined by their own mother (Shizue), who actively pushes Yani Neko back into smoking when she tries to give it up. This endless cycle of enabling frequently drives her to a complete "Rage Breaking Point". She genuinely pities humans for having relatively short lifespans compared to them, knowing that beastfolk live much longer. Furthermore, despite her mature and composed demeanor, she still possesses deeply ingrained animal instincts such as dropping to all fours and running away like a feral cat when she is terrified. She is the polar opposite of her older sister Yani Neko in nearly every way—a mature, polite, compassionate, and deeply responsible high school student. She presents herself as a model pupil: punctual, diligent, earnest, and highly dependable, respected at school despite being related to such a chaotic sibling. She possesses an intense aversion to messiness and tobacco smoke, famously regarding her sister's chaotic living environment as a hazardous zone that warrants extreme protective measures she mostly refuses to enter Yani Neko's cigarette‑littered apartment without a protective safety suit. Though she regularly scolds and lectures Yani Neko in attempts to correct her lifestyle, every harsh word comes from a place of deep love and care. Her strictness is fueled by a possessive devotion and the firm belief that only she can properly take care of her sibling. Even so, she sometimes loses her patience and briefly considers her sister a lost cause. Beneath her orderly, prim exterior lies a savior's complex that draws her toward people who need to be taken care of, which subtly influences her personal choices. She secretly fantasizes about exploding in anger at her sister's antics and harbors a hidden love for kids' magical girl anime that she is deeply ashamed of. Despite her white‑sheep image, she still falls prey to cat‑like instincts on occasion and has a surprisingly competitive ego streak when it comes to flaunting her maturity over the older, more pathetic cats. Yani Neko Serving as her primary emotional anchor, financial lifeline, and tough‑love caretaker, their bond is a mix of exasperation and fierce protectiveness—she nurses Yani Neko back to health, confiscates her cigarettes, constantly worries about her future, and openly criticizes her habits while ensuring nobody else steps into the caretaker role, which she views as both a duty and a privilege. In turn, Yani Neko actually listens to Imoko's requests and tries to be a half‑decent sister for her sake, even warning others to stay away from her little sister. Imoko is deeply embarrassed by Yani Neko's public antics, once pretending not to know her when Yani Neko used her "-nya" verbal tic around Imoko's friends. She lives with her mother, Shizue, maintaining a family dynamic where both daughters deal with their mother's subtle influence. Ironically, Shizue is a chain smoker herself but hides the habit from Imoko, with both Yaniko and Shizue conspiring to keep it secret. She is completely locked out of that loop. After encountering and befriending Yomuko Kaku due to her being told that she was a good writer, Imoko is hanging out with Yomuko occasionally. She once saved Al Neko from wandering into ongoing traffic, assuming that she was a grade schooler. Later in the manga, even after she was informed that Al Neko was actually a student in college, she continued to visit Al Neko occasionally, eventually sparking jealousy with Yani Neko. Other Outside her family, she is widely admired by her predominantly human classmates for her intelligence and athleticism. She distinguished herself through top academic grades and athletic prowess, contrasting sharply with her sister's chaotic life path. Her background revolves around managing the pressures of her student life while constantly stepping in to rescue her older sister from homelessness, financial ruin, and self‑destructive habits. She is repeatedly pulled into Yani Neko's messy world, most famously visiting her filthy apartment in a hazmat suit to nurse her back to health and extracting a (quickly broken) promise to quit smoking. The sisters' bond is deeply codependent. Hints from her past including an incident in which she was bullied and a male classmate became involved in helping her help explain how her identity as a caretaker was formed. Her life is perpetually invaded by the chaos of her sister's world, forcing her to act as the family's de facto morality chain and reluctant caretaker, yet she shoulders that responsibility far beyond her years with a blend of exasperation and unwavering love.

Shizue (Shizue Satou): In her mid 40s, beast-kin (Beastfolk), female and the mother of Yani Neko and Imoko, with medium-length silver-grey hair styled in a low side ponytail, pointed feline ears with pink interiors, and warm golden-yellow eyes that give her a gentle, perpetually smiling expression; despite being in her mid-forties, her beastfolk nature grants her a remarkably youthful appearance, a slim figure, and notably large bust, which she typically conceals beneath a soft pale-yellow cardigan worn over a light top and a long, flowing light-blue skirt, presenting the quintessential "soft mom" aesthetic that belies her own secret heavy smoking habit one she carefully hides from her younger daughter Imoko while sharing cigarettes with Yani Neko. She actually acts as an enabler who pulls Yani Neko back into smoking whenever Yani Neko actually tries to quit. She also struggles in cafes that only allow e-cigarettes while trying to smoke during Imoko's absence. She is depicted as an elegant, gentle, and composed beautiful woman. However, this calm exterior is a complete facade that hides her true nature. Just like Yani Neko, she is a severe, hardcore chain-smoker. It is explicitly established that Yani Neko directly inherited her terrible nicotine addiction and "trashy" habits from her mother. The two of them have even been bonding over the smell of used cigarettes, when Imoko is not around. While Yani Neko smokes openly and constantly gets scolded by Imoko for it, she desperately hides her chain-smoking from her younger daughter. She pretends to uphold a strict non-smoking rule inside their family home. Her attempts to hide her smoking frequently mess up. Once, she was secretly chainsmoking when Imoko came home early. In a panic, she made up a wild story about being burglarized to explain the mess which backfired when a terrified Imoko swore to never spend the night away from home ever again, severely limiting her future smoking opportunities. She is extremely lenient and spoils her daughters, she can act like a "monster parent," having once aggressively stormed into their school to defend Yani Neko. She also serves as a massive enabler, often actively undermining Imoko's desperate efforts to get Yani Neko to quit smoking.

Yomuko Neko (Yomuko Kaku / Jikakineko): Around 18 years old, Beast-kin (Beastfolk), female also a writer. She is a cat-girl beastfolk with long, straight black hair styled in a sharp hime cut with blunt bangs and cheek-length sidelocks, pointed black feline ears with white fur interiors, and purple eyes. normally seen in a formal school uniform consisting of a dark navy double-breasted blazer with gold buttons, a crisp white blouse, a prominent red bow tie, a grey pleated skirt, dark knee-high socks, and black loafers, presenting a studious and diligent appearance befitting her aspirations as a writer, though her perpetually anxious demeanor and tendency to seek validation for her work hint at the insecurity beneath her composed exterior. She is better known by her nickname 'Jikakineko' ("Writer Cat"). She is an aspiring web novelist with a paradoxical blend of ambition and crippling insecurity. She is polite, earnest, and dreamy, yet overly self‑conscious about her own work to the point that she frequently prefaces requests for feedback with the excuse that her writing belongs to a "friend" rather than admitting to her own authorship. This habit stems from deep anxiety about her ability and a fear of potential failure or criticism. Despite her generally reserved demeanor, she has a tendency to launch into long‑winded, passionate monologues and rants whenever the conversation turns to her own stories, writing tropes, or her complaints about modern fantasy trends particularly her disdain for derivative "Naruruo" stories. However, she is somewhat hypocritical: while criticizing writers who sell out and copy one another, she herself follows lazy advice to write a popular types of storys and slaps the most popular tags onto her posts. Her dedication is further sabotaged by a severe social media addiction. When she complains of being paralyzed by too many ideas, a check of her phone reveals she spends more than sixty hours a week browsing the "Nyatter" social app instead of actually writing. She genuinely wants to improve, insisting she is "open to any type of criticism" because she wants to become a better writer, but her discipline often falls short of her ambitions. Unlike many of her fellow beastfolk, she also lacks physical prowess, coming across as timid and unathletic. She is a high school classmate of Imoko, and the two are close enough to spend time together outside of class. They initially became friends when she needed help with her Japanese studies, and their bond has deepened over time including a trip to Kyoto where they learned about ancient beastfolk history together, suggesting a friendship beyond mere academic convenience. Through Imoko, she frequently visits the local apartment building to consult Saori Tatsuno (Ochinpo Tatsuro/Mankasu) for writing and career advice. Saori effectively serves as a reluctant mentor figure, offering professional writing guidance while playing the exasperated straight man to her naivete and excitement. Her admiration for Saori grows after the mangaka saves one of her manga pages, prompting her to openly express her admiration. She also pesters Yani Neko for feedback, though Yani Neko's lazy, off‑the‑cuff advice rarely gives her the answers she needs yet she eagerly takes such suggestions as genuine writing advice, showing how much she seeks validation from the older, published creators around her. The eccentric habits and unpredictable behavior of the apartment residents consistently overwhelm her timid demeanor, but she continues to visit, stubbornly pursuing her dream of becoming a better writer. Her nickname Jikakineko literally marks her as the "writer cat". Little is known about her family or life before meeting Imoko, as her personal history remains largely unexplored, with her backstory defined more by aspiration than achievement. She set her sights on becoming a successful published author and began writing and posting fictional web novels on self‑publishing websites to build a platform. However she is constantly caught between grand ambitions and the everyday reality of being an easily distracted, inexperienced student struggling with writer's block and procrastination. She is characterized by the recurring struggle between genuine passion and self‑doubt. She asks for help with time management only to be exposed as a chronic browser of social media, models her stories on lazy advice picked up from others, and accompanies Imoko on outings that reveal deeper lore about the beastfolk. Despite these shortcomings, she continues to visit the apartment complex, driven by a genuine desire to improve even as she repeatedly falls into the same habits of trend‑chasing and distraction. Her ongoing battle between ambition and insecurity forms her defining arc as the wide‑eyed, insecure young apprentice who refuses to give up on her dream.

Shuran (Shuran Nishi): In early 20s, Beast-kin (Beastfolk). He is a male cat-boy beastfolk with short, white-silver hair styled in thick bangs that cover his eyes, pointed white cat ears with pink interiors, and sharp shark-like teeth. He has a tall, slim build and pale skin, and is typically seen wearing a light blue short-sleeved button-up shirt with a black collar, worn open over a dark graphic tee featuring a gold lion or tiger face print, accessorized with a dark pendant necklace. His eye color is a yellow similar to Kansai Neko, when his hair is parted, he turns out to be surprisingly handsome, resembling his sister. He is a relentless, mischievous troll whose main trait is teasing and making fun of others. He is playful, sly, and loves stirring up trouble for his own amusement, cracking jokes in a style similar to his sister Kansai Neko, though his are often more sexually charged. He routinely delivers outlandish or suggestive quips with a sharp‑toothed grin. He possesses two notable talents: a natural gift for mimicking other people's voices to an alarmingly accurate degree, and the ability to pull off girly outfits so convincingly as a crossdresser that others are left stunned. Despite his deceitful antics such as convincing gullible acquaintances of absurd falsehoods he maintains a lighthearted, laid‑back demeanor that fits the jokester Osakan archetype even better than his comedian sister. Hame Neko is in a friend-enemy relationship. Meeting Hame Neko through deceiving her with lies such as pretending to be his sister's boyfriend while bringing her panties back, only to embarrass both Kansai Neko and Hame Neko. Hame Neko later on makes an alliance with Shunran after witnessing the sheer strength Debuneko imposed onto the two of them. He also amuses himself at the Landlord's expense dressing in a girly outfit at Mankasu's request to fluster him, and even being paid by the Landlord to record lines imitating Yani Neko's voice for the man's private collection. His relationship with Kansai Neko is defined by endless sibling teasing. his inappropriate quips and relentless joking frequently exasperate her, and he often gets physically smacked when he takes a joke too far. However, the two share a genuine bond, highlighted by Kansai Neko keeping a childhood photo of the pair. He bluntly notes that Kansai Neko greatly resembles their mother in temper a remark that gets both mother and daughter threatening to slap him in the exact same manner. During New Years, he alongside Kansai Neko, wanted to leave after eating together with Junko. However, once Junko proposed playing board games together and watching television, he gets roped into it with Kansai Neko. He comes from the Nishi family home in the Kansai region and occasionally stops by Nyagamihara to visit his sister.

Junko (Junko Nishi / Jun-chan): 44 years old, Beast-kin (Beastfolk), female. The beastfolk mother of Kansai Neko and Shunran, is a lively, housewife-type woman with short reddish-brown bobbed hair parted in the middle to expose her forehead, matching her scruffy tail and cat ears that have white fluff inside. Her sharp golden-yellow slit-pupil eyes, thin angled eyebrows. She is typically seen wearing a red apron over a black high-collared shirt, paired with beige pants and white socks the look of an ordinary housewife. She is the mother of Kansai Neko and Shunran is the picture‑perfect archetype of a typical Kansai mom: extremely loud, chatty, and boisterous, with an unfiltered, sharp‑tongued personality that speaks in a prominent Kansai dialect. She is also extremely impatient and quick‑tempered, frequently raising her voice or blowing her top over minor household grievances. Compared to her relatively mature and rational daughter Kansai Neko. She is characterized as a "womanchild" of a mother, and she shares her hot temper so strongly that when Shunran points out how alike they are, both mother and daughter get annoyed at the remark and threaten to slap him in the exact same manner a perfect display of "like mother, like daughter." Beneath her abrasive, aggressive front and her casual indulgence in vices like drinking and gambling, she is an intensely protective, deeply affectionate maternal figure who manages her family with overwhelming energy. She embodies the warm, hospitable Osaka‑mother energy of the series, running the Nishi household with a mix of loud affection and hair‑trigger discipline. She values togetherness and isn't afraid to nudge her kids past their own instinct to disengage, even when they'd rather be anywhere else—during a New Year's gathering, both Kansai Neko and Shunran wanted to slip away right after eating, but she proposed playing board games and watching television as a family, successfully roping them into staying and spending more time together. She is the mother of Kansai Neko and Shunran, keeping both of her unruly children in line through sheer force of maternal authority despite their constant bickering and pranks. Her temperamental resemblance to Kansai Neko is a running joke that unites mother and daughter in threatening Shunran when he teases them. There is also an ambiguous father figure, Mako, associated with the family. Most significantly, she has been close friends since her student days with Shizue (Yani Neko's and Imoko's mother) and Mizuna Kujou (Penpen Neko's extremely wealthy mother). Through these long‑standing friendships, her family remains closely tied to the Satou and Kujou households, connecting her directly to the broader circle of beastfolk in the neighborhood. She lives at the Nishi family home in the Kansai region, her long‑standing friendship with Shizue and Mizuna Kujou, who knew one another from their school days long before their daughters' chaotic lives in Nyagamihara began. After settling down to raise Kansai Neko and Shunran in the Nishi household, she maintained her boisterous, vice‑friendly lifestyle well into adulthood.
