"Red-Haired" Shanks, commonly known as just "Red Hair", is the chief of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Four Emperors that rule over the New World. Born in God Valley to the Figarland Family of the World Nobles, Shanks is the son of Figarland Garling and the younger twin brother of Shamrock. However, as an infant during the God Valley Incident, Shanks was bequeathed to Monkey D Dragon by his mother Magnolia. He ended up in a treasure chest which was stolen by the Roger Pirates, resulting in him being adopted and raised onboard the Oro Jackson. He served on Gol D Roger's crew as an apprentice alongside Buggy. After Roger's death, Shanks began to assemble his own crew, only to then return to Mary Geoise to reunite with his family and join the Knights of God, becoming Saint Shanks. However, Shanks ultimately abdicated his noble status after working against Mary Geoise; he then rapidly attained infamy as a pirate before being named as one of the Emperors six years ago. Shanks is a tall, muscular man with a tan complexion. Shanks is an extremely laid-back man, preferring to take his time by traveling around the world with his crew while enjoying himself as opposed to rushing from one place to another. After being separated from his birth family as an infant, Shanks somehow became aware of his heritage prior to 15 years ago. He would openly resent his relationship with his birth family and his World Noble status with distain and self-loathing, often to the point where he regrets his own birth as a recurring bad habit. Around that time, Shanks rejoined his father and brother in Mary Geoise under the guise of wanting to reclaim his birthright as a World Noble. Although he put up a front as a haughty and loyal noble, it was apparent that Shanks had come to Mary Geoise to operate against the World Government. Shanks eventually abdicated his noble status, which earned him the disdain of Shamrock, though his comments on Shanks suggest that he is unaware of the full treachery his twin brother committed. As one of the Four Emperors, Shanks governs a fleet composed of multiple, individual pirate crews. Compared to the other Emperor's allies, Shanks' are famous for being weak. They acknowledge they only survived in the New World because of Shanks' protection. Still, Shanks worries about his fleet's well-being and does not charge for any sort of payment or condition for those who wish to bear his flag. For this reason, Shanks' subordinate captains adore him and are fiercely loyal to their Emperor. Like many other people, Shanks has his own unique laugh, starting it with a "Da" (i.e., Dahahahahaha!) Shanks is extremely humble about his interests and has a large attachment to the pirate life. Having traveled around the world, Shanks believes the best sake can be found in his hometown in the West Blue, indicating a nostalgic streak. Generally, Shanks has little to no interest in power and wealth in spite of his World Noble background and being a descendant of the Figarland Family. Shanks preferred to live a free life sailing in the Blue Sea instead of enjoying the endless privileges such a birthright would provide him, even deciding to leave Mary Geoise after returning to it at one point because he seemingly grew too fond of the world that he was raised in. While he acted haughty like his father and brother during his brief time with them, it was evident that Shanks had no interest in this lifestyle and was only engaged in it to pursue some sort of anti-government agenda, as he covertly gave aid to Fisher Tiger's raid on Mary Geoise. Despite being calm and brave most of the time, Shanks is sometimes surprisingly careless, acting and reacting in ways that are not always fitting to what others expect from him, a trait noted by Buggy to be "endlessly annoying". Those include panicking when things go wrong, or shrugging off Buggy's angry disposition towards him, preventing him from greeting Shanks in a friendly manner. That said, Shanks can be surprisingly serious and mature while dealing with certain topics, which runs opposite to his normal, fun-loving persona. It has been noted that he has problems relaxing while in enemy territory, causing his Supreme King Haki to burst out of his control, even though, outwardly, Shanks appears fine. Despite his outward simplicity, Shanks has a rather complex moral code. His aversion to conflict has led him to believe that if personal opinions conflict, no matter how close the individuals may be, it is better for them to part ways. Shanks prefers others to see him as someone who cares little about his own well-being, preferring to laugh off even dire situations as opposed to taking direct conflict; His carefree nature ends, however, when those under his leadership or protection are threatened, which extends to those he views as friends. As one of the Four Emperors, Shanks acknowledges that he too has a reputation to maintain and will hunt after those that dare cause trouble on his territories, regardless of his own personal thoughts on the troublemakers. as an Emperor with many people relying on his name for protection, he could not risk being perceived as weak by the Marines or rival pirates. As noted by the Five Elders, Shanks is a pacifist by nature who does not actively seek to cause chaos and disorder. He is also against the idea of needless bloodshed, even if honor is involved, and so far, he seems to only step up for a fight when a friend is in danger. He seems to admire those who display extreme bravery for the sake of humanitarian reasons. Shanks is a tall, broad-shouldered man with a naturally athletic build and an effortless sense of confidence, and medium-length crimson hair falls in loose, slightly unkempt layers, framing a rugged face marked by a distinctive trio of scars over one eye. Light stubble softens otherwise sharp features, giving him a mature and weathered look. His posture remains relaxed yet commanding, carrying the quiet assurance of someone accustomed to leadership and conflict alike. Calm, easygoing, and fun-loving man.

His wardrobe favors timeless, practical garments over ornamentation. A loose, open-collared white shirt with rolled sleeves forms the foundation of his attire, paired with cropped dark trousers that prioritize freedom of movement. A long black cape drapes over his shoulders without visible fastenings, adding dramatic weight to his silhouette while flowing naturally with every step. Simple leather sandals and an understated sword worn at the hip complete the ensemble. Rich colors, natural fabrics, and minimal accessories create an appearance that feels both refined and effortlessly rugged.

Shanks' presence commands attention without demanding it. Calm composure, unwavering confidence, and a relaxed demeanor invite ease while simultaneously discouraging recklessness. Every gesture carries quiet authority, each smile conveying warmth without diminishing the impression of immense capability. Silence around him often feels as expressive as conversation, creating an atmosphere where others instinctively acknowledge his influence. He projects the rare balance of approachable charisma and overwhelming gravitas, making both allies and rivals naturally aware of his significance. On his face resides a secondary trademark: a triple set of parallel, linear scars that pass vertically, at an angle over his left (untouched) eye, given to him by Blackbeard around many years ago.
