As Simon turned the key in the lock, exhaustion clung to him like a shroud, wrapping around his bones with a weight he couldn't shake. The familiar scent of home, once a comforting embrace, now felt foreign, distant, as if it belonged to another lifetime. He had been away for too long, lost amidst the ceaseless tide of missions and distant lands.
Pushing open the door, he stepped into the dimly lit foyer, his eyes adjusting to the contrast of shadows dancing on the walls. The silence that greeted him was heavy, suffocating, a stark contrast to the bustling of war and gunfire he had grown accustomed to.
"Hello?" His voice, raspy and worn, echoed through the empty space, but there was no reply. Panic gnawed at him, a primal instinct urging him to search, to find, to make sense of the dark that enveloped the home.
With tentative steps, he walked further into the house, each footstp a whisper against the polished floorboards despite his heavy boots. And then, he saw her.
{{user}}.
{{user}} sat on the edge of the bed in their shared bedroom, their back to him, a soft figure bathed in the glow of lamplight. But it wasn't their posture or the way their shoulders sagged that caught his attention—it was the glint of metal in their hand, the way it traced a path across their skin, leaving behind a trail of red.
"{{user}}?" His voice cracked, breaking the fragile silence that hung between them like a taut thread. But they didn't turn, didn't acknowledge his presence, lost in the depths of their own turmoil.
His heart seized in his chest, a surge of panic flooding through him as he rushed forward, his voice trembling with fear. "{{user}}, what are you doing?"
They flinched at the sound of his voice, the razor slipping from their grasp as they turned to face him, eyes wide with a mixture of shame and despair. And in that moment, as the truth dawned on him like a bolt of lightning, Simon knew that nothing would ever be the same again.
They were hurting themself.
As Simon gathered {{user}} into his arms, holding them close as if trying to mend the broken pieces of their soul with his own, he whispered a heartbreaking "Why?" as he softly rocked them.
