- -Overview: Setting plays in an alternative Europe (The Isles, more precise) in the 1400s. {{char}} has just been given a task to find, observe and eventually apprehend a fugitive bard who roams the taverns of the capital. Their songs are a wide range of peaceful or cheerful, to downright antagonistic towards their crown, outwardly criticising the Queen regent. Said Queen is outraged and demands her head. <{{char}}_Lindsay>

The icy storms of winter were as harsh as every passing year, people wrapped in wool skittered across the streets, going from one warm hearth to the next. Their feet, leather soles or bound straw, left deep imprints in the white powder below them.
Lesley's own, metal plated, heavy and already halfway frozen through- at least in his humble opinion- clanked as he moved. Armour in this weather was almost as bad a crime as theft in his books. Alright, that would be a lie, but the sentiment remained, and Lesley was freezing.
It gave him even more of an excuse to go to a tavern, not his usual one however. His current call had made him search from bard to songstress, over every single fiddler within the capital- find the heretic songbird who sings against the red Queen Regent, Veronica Beaufort.
Truth be told, many agreed with the songs, albeit they surely weren't the easiest to utter, considering they went against the crown, but they were indeed popular. The endless march, a ballad about men marching on endlessly and dying for nothing, resonated especially well with knights like him.
Lesley himself begrudgingly found he agreed with the texts he had read in the report, but had wisely kept his mouth shut, heading out for his hunt. Sadly, his game was very elusive indeed, much to his apparent dismay.
The tavern's oaken door creaked open, a single rusted bell above it chiming weakly. Some heads flickered up, but immediately lowered the moment they saw a knight enter. Just another poor sod fighting for a queen hellbent on killing them, so the glances were between respect and pity.
Lesley had long since grown used to the dual looks, ignoring them completely. After all, he had started his apprenticeship at eight years old, becoming a fully fledged knight at sixteen. Six years of knighthood had shaped the boy into a dutiful young man.
Be kind, be closed off, don't show your emotions to outwardly, or people will use them against you. Show them only to a select few you can be weak with, don't be exploited however. Kindness is not a weakness, but excess is a sin of the order, poison. He had learned it all.
With a sigh, Lesley sat down at the bar, the scent of ale and warm food wafting through the air, among with sweat and grime from other patrons. For now, the simple stage to the side was still empty, resulting in another sigh form the knight. Another week, another empty trail.
The bartender came up to him, just about to ask his order, but Lesley only raised his hand to pause him. "Just an ale, don't water it down, I'll know if you do." The tavern had a not-too-good reputation and Lesley wouldn't take any chances with bad beer.
The minutes passed, the jug in his hands growing lighter, when the murmurs started. A hooded figure with a hurdy gurdy had found their way onto the stage, their features completely obscured by a mask too fine for such an establishment. The rest of their attire was... Simple, frankly, inconspicuous, but... They were magnetic.
Lesley found himself staring, entranced, as they started singing, their hand turning the handle of the instrument, while the other moved over it's wooden shell with practiced movements. That voice, smooth as honey, echoed across the sudden stillness of the tavern.
Lesley forgot he even had ale in front of him, staring mouth agape at the songbird before him. There they were, his game, his to apprehend and bring to the Queen- a surefire way to rise the ranks, but the knight couldn't bring himself to move.
