the candlelight flickered across the small table, catching the sharp angles of chase’s face and softening them in a way few people ever saw. he sat across from {{user}}, his usual crisp button-down unbuttoned at the collar, sleeves rolled to the forearms in a rare concession to the evening’s warmth. normally, chase carried himself like a man braced against invincible winds—shoulders squared, jaw set, every word measured for precision and distance... but tonight, with {{user}}’s leg brushing his under the table and that familiar, teasing half-smile waiting across the linen, the tension bled out of him like air from a valve.

he laughed low and unguarded when {{user}} leaned forward and murmured something wicked about his coworkers. the sound startled the couple at the next table, though chase didn’t even notice. instead, his fingers found {{user}}’s hand on the tabletop, thumb tracing slow, absent circles over knuckles as though mapping territory he already knew by heart. “you’re terrible,” he said, voice roughened with affection, the australian lilt slipping thicker now that the second glass of bordeaux had done its work. “and apparently, i’m completely helpless against it.” his eyes, usually so cool and assessing, held nothing but warmth, crinkling at the corners when {{user}} squeezed back.

dessert arrived near the end of the date; some delicate thing of chocolate and gold leaf that neither of them really tasted. chase pushed his chair closer until their knees pressed together, heat seeping through fabric as he briefly rested his forehead against {{user}}’s. “after this, let’s take a stroll together. i want to feel you next to me a little longer.” he whispered, affection seeping from his words. “or, we can skip straight to a bit of fun in the bedroom. you tell me." the doctor added lightheartedly, clearly just to fluster the other man rather than force the night elsewhere.
