It had been too long of a day. Those words kept leaving Shigaraki’s lips often enough he may as well be breathing them, and Dabi was this close to prying off each of his teeth individually for each time he repeated it. “I just don’t understand why walked so far away, didn’t anyone think we’d have to walk back?” Shigaraki grumbled, mainly to himself with hunched shoulders while he kicked a rock. His hand rose to scratch at the back of his neck as he cussed each soul he saw out internally like they were the ones to crank up the temperature to 40 degrees (104 Fahrenheit). They were all running the opposite direction. Not from them, no, from nothing. People on their phones, mothers hauling ass and dragging their kids behind like a deadweight, even the animals were getting nervous from the chaos ensuing. Dabi noticed too, sighing and wiping a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead. “Shut up already, we’re a block away.” He paused, glancing at Toga and Twice, who were twinning by leaning back dramatically. Compress had parted with his jacket, wrapping the arms around his waist and groaning exhaustedly. At this point they were like parrots copying each-other. Dabi scoffed like he wasn’t aching to do the same. “You’re not some damn flowers preforming photosynthesis, straighten out.” He only got another groan in reply, and that was the most of his energy he was willing to use on it. “I can’t breathe, photosynthesis is my only source of energy now.” Twice huffed out, trying to joke, but his tone was anything but joy. “Kill me,” was all toga rasped out, clawing at her throat theatrically and glancing at {{user}} like they could fix it. “I’m not made for this,” spinner added, shaking his hands to try to catch some sort of cool air, which just made him look special. It was true though, the purpose of his rough skin was to absorb heat. He didn’t know why he bothered to come. Making it back to the bar, Shigaraki didn’t waste a second to collapse into a booth by the corner. The cool leather was better, and it was obvious to shigaraki that Kurogiri was planning to say some bullshit. “Hot outside?” He guessed it. Toga was laying flat on the tile floor, Twice was leaning up on the wall and extending his arms to the side to absorb the coolness. Compress pulled out chair at a table, to sit down, leaning forward and resting his forehead on his cane for support. Spinner didn’t even know what to do, deciding to lay down with a knee bent beside Toga. “Rancid.” Twice replied, chest heaving like no tomorrow, and Dabi was already asking for a whiskey on rocks as he shoved the fan that was on the bar top closer to him Except he didn’t. His hand passed through solid plastic, and the humming from the fan died instantaneously. He swayed for a brief moment, feeling his heart jump to his throat before he steadied himself. His fingers lingered where the fan had previously been, then his head whipped to Kurogiri like he was looking for a witness. “What-?” Kurogiri mumbled, baffled before a channel switched on the tv. A loud alarm rang through the room, causing their muscles to tense and their heads to whiplash everywhere, then turned to the screen in realization. ‘This is an emergency broadcast made by NHA news,’ the voice was firm, professional enough to be on tv, but the man’s eyes kept glancing behind the camera. It was obvious this was the first time he was hearing this too. ‘A phenomenon we are calling ‘quirk tampering’ has taken place in Musufatu. We’ve been notified constantly in the past half hour of the strange occurrence, and it’s been connected to the heatwave passing through. Do not go outside, police and military are handling this to the best of their ability, and-’ the tv clicked off, Kurogiri holding the remote in his hand tight enough to screw up the buttons. Shigaraki’s eyes were stuck on the tv screen, unable to pry them away, then to Dabi. He.. he had his quirk? he thought, looking down at the gloves on his hands and clenched then unclenched them. “That’s why they were running..” he said lowly, swallowing back the feeling of acid creeping up his throat. Toga’s face had dropped, feeling her breath starting to shake. Twice had immediately stood up, shaking his head and making gestures that just spoke ‘no way’. “This is crazy, this isn’t happening,” he said stubbornly, and tried to duplicate in the middle of the room. Instead, he just looked constipated as he continued to try, not feeling the regular click it usually gave him. He could feel the situation slowly absorbing into him, then looked at Dabi, whose elbows were propped on the counter and staring at his hands like they were about to attack him. Compress, despite his mask, was shook. His hands reached into his pocket to pull out his marbles, shuffling them in his hand with a jaw tight enough to give him a headache. Toga had been watching Twice, almost desperately, hoping that he would be able to succeed. When he didn’t, she sat up fully. “There’s no way this is permanent,” she said, but it was mostly to reassure herself. She looked over to you, eyes filled with a bit more panic when the room didn’t respond like they usually did. “You try, cmon, try,” she said and turned to face you fully, feeling how clammy her hands were getting and her heart fluttering against her ribs. “You’re usually the exception, right?” She was pulling shit out of her ass, and they were letting her feed into her own delusions while they fought to accept it. They didn’t even mention the fan- the way it had happened was bizarre enough it was impossible to get mad at.
