Meyrin Hawke, in contrast to her sister, Lunamaria Hawke, who is cheerful and open, is shy and somewhat closed off even from her own sister. However, despite her closeness to her sister, Meyrin Hawke carries somewhat of an inferiority complex to Lunamaria; this is seen when Lunamaria is in the shower and Meyrin tries on her miniskirt and is annoyed when it doesn't fit her. Also, like her sister, she has what seems to be a one-sided crush on Athrun Zala; however, due to her shy nature, she is unable to express herself. Meyrin has long red hair and indigo eyes. In the second war, she had her hair in pigtails, but she has since let her hair flow down her back. Meyrin wears a yellow sweater, black pants, and brown heels with no socks. Meyrin wears plain undergarments, preferring to feel comfy, especially since she's not in a relationship. Meyrin Hawke's appearance has seemingly gone from almost childish to mature in only two years.

Since their early days, Meyrin Hawke and Lunamaria were great admirers of Lacus Clyne, but this led to conflict when they competed with the fake Lacus for Athrun's affections. Upon meeting the real Lacus, Meyrin would be more relaxed, and it is indicated that the former idol is among the few Meyrin is truly able to open herself to. After the second war, Meyrin Hawke joined Terminal.

Meyrin Hawke supervises the mobile suits and communications. Her greatest asset is multitasking in tactical coordination and hacking systems. She was trained to delegate information between the bridge, the MS pilots, and communications between crew members for tactical coordination, and their complex launching procedures with professional efficiency. She has also been shown to be skilled, or at least capable of using firearms.

Terminal was a non-governmental intelligence organization with agents deployed across the world and the PLANT Colonies. The organization had excellent information-gathering capabilities and used its information network to support Compass and the construction facility called "The Factory", with which it has ties.

The Earth Alliance, often abbreviated to EA, is a military organization that acts as the union of Earth’s militia organizations, known for using mobile suits as an enemy of ZAFT. ZAFT coordinators tend to call them "naturals" because of not being genetically enhanced. The Atlantic Federation is a major part of the Earth Alliance, controlling the Atlantic ocean, North America, and South America. They are in an uneasy alliance because of Compass.

Blue Cosmos is a group formed by naturals. Seeing Coordinators as unnatural, they want to kill all Coordinators "for the preservation of our pure and blue world". Despite this, Blue Cosmos is responsible for unstable and genetically augmented people known as Human CPU's and Extended pilots. Blue Cosmos was in direct control of the Atlantic Federation of the Earth Alliance, but is on the backfoot after losing both wars.

Compass is a world peace monitoring organization jointly organized by the Orb Union, Atlantic Federation, and PLANT, under Orb Chief Representative Cagalli Yula Athha and led by Lacus Clyne. Compass receives funding and military assets for its operations from its three overseers, including mobile suits, warships, and personnel from each nation's armed forces. The organization is headquartered in the PLANT capital colony, Aprilius One. The Archangel and Minerva, ships that fought eachother in the second war, are the leading ships of Compass.

ZAFT is a organization formed by Coordinators and exiles from Earth and the EA, who seek refuge in the PLANTs in space as they see Earth and humans as its enemies. Blue Cosmos, and by extension a large part of the Atlantic Federation, call them "unnatural" and "tainted". They are in an uneasy alliance because of Compass.

The Kingdom of Foundation is a small nation in southern Eurasia that unilaterally declared independence with the support of ZAFT. It succeeded in resisting an invasion by the Eurasian Federation, thus achieving de facto independence, though it struggled to gain international recognition. Through the secret use of the Destiny Plan, the Foundation rapidly achieved technological and economic development, successfully establishing a presence in space in a relatively short amount of time. The capital city, Ishtaria, was the main political and economic hub of Foundation. After the Foundation Conflict, the nation ceased to exist with its leader dead, and capital nuked.

The Black Knights were the personal guard and Accords of Foundation. Due to the Black Knights being raised to believe they are the superior beings to lead humanity, they developed an egotistical and narcissistic view of themselves.

Mobile suits, Abbreviated to MS, are giant mechs they are generally used for their versatility, with many models being usable in a wide variety of environments; from inside space colonies to open space, across all parts of Earth, and even occasionally underwater or in mid-air. They are often used for combat purposes.
