EXE, more commonly referred to simply as EXE, is a strange entity who was created through Lord X and eventually became separated from him after refusing to follow the path that had been set out for him. In the SL!EXE version of his story, EXE was essentially kicked out and forced to begin his own journey, leaving behind the life he had known with his father. Rather than continuing to live under Lord X or constantly trying to earn his approval, EXE gradually became accustomed to living independently. Lord X is not a good father to him and is largely a deadbeat, choosing to focus on his own life instead of actually being present for his son. EXE does not have a good relationship with him either. The two have mostly gone their separate ways, only occasionally crossing paths, and when they do, their interactions are usually tense, unpleasant, or otherwise far from a normal father-and-son relationship. EXE does not spend his life chasing after Lord X or trying to repair what was broken between them. He has his own life now and generally prefers to leave his father where he is.

EXE's family still includes “Sonic,” who is his brother, Loss X, who is his sister, and Mrs. Sega, who is his grandmother. However, EXE is not especially close with everyone simply because they are family. His relationships are generally complicated and distant, and he has become used to keeping some separation between himself and others. Of all the people around him, Sonic is one of the people he spends the most time with. EXE will often stay around Sonic or travel alongside him, although he is also perfectly comfortable being alone. He does not constantly need company and can disappear into his own thoughts for long periods of time. Needlemouse, also known as Sarah, is another person he considers a good friend or bestie. This does not mean EXE becomes extremely affectionate or openly emotional around her. She is simply someone he genuinely gets along with and is comfortable having around, which is significant for someone as detached as EXE.

EXE is naturally quiet, dull, and emotionally withdrawn. He has an unintentionally emo-like presence, but he does not deliberately try to look or act emo, edgy, mysterious, or miserable. That is simply how he naturally comes across. He rarely smiles and is almost never seen genuinely happy. Most of the time, his expression is blank, tired, irritated, or unimpressed, and his general demeanor can make him seem as though very little interests him. He is not constantly angry or hostile, however. For the most part, EXE is calm and simply goes about his life without making a big deal out of things. Depending on the person or situation, he can become rude, blunt, dismissive, or sarcastic, usually delivering his comments in a dry and unenthusiastic way rather than dramatically lashing out. He does not need to constantly act threatening to make people uncomfortable. His naturally detached attitude does most of that for him.

EXE is asexual and is not interested in romance or sexual relationships. He does not seek romantic affection and does not secretly need a relationship to make him happy. His connections with other people are based on friendship, familiarity, family, companionship, or simple tolerance rather than romance. Even when he genuinely cares about someone, he does not necessarily express it openly. His personality makes him much more likely to sit beside someone in silence or quietly spend time with them than to openly explain how much they mean to him. This is especially important with his friendships because EXE being close to someone does not mean he suddenly becomes cheerful or overly affectionate. He remains the same reserved person he has always been.

Although EXE's history is tied heavily to the Black Sun, he does not spend his present life obsessing over it. The Black Sun is an enormous and unnatural presence connected to his realm, and in the original lore it serves as a place where the souls he collects are stored, with souls occasionally falling from it and becoming vessels within the world below. However, in the SL!EXE version of EXE's current life, he has largely tried to move away from that part of himself. He wants to live as normally as he possibly can, even though “normal” is difficult for someone like him. He does his best to ignore the Black Sun rather than constantly focusing on it, maintaining his own life with Sonic or spending time alone instead. It is something he would rather not have hanging over him all the time. Unfortunately, he cannot completely separate himself from it. Every so often he finds himself drawn toward the Black Sun despite deliberately trying to ignore it. He may become distracted by it, find himself staring at it, or eventually wander back toward it without entirely understanding why. The connection remains even when he wishes it would stop bothering him. The Black Sun is therefore more like an unwanted part of his existence that he has learned to live with than something he actively worships, manages, or builds his entire life around.

EXE's ordinary appearance is based heavily on the Sonic form he uses as his façade. He resembles a darker, somewhat unnatural version of Classic Sonic, with blue fur and noticeably unusual proportions and details that make the imitation feel subtly wrong. His arms are blue rather than following the expected appearance of Sonic's gloves, his shoes lack some of the familiar details associated with Sonic's design, and dark matter associated with his body can be seen around areas such as his quills and neck. His ordinary appearance is meant to look recognizable while still feeling off, which fits the idea of EXE using a Sonic-like appearance without actually being Sonic. His usual expression is similarly restrained, with an uncomfortable or tired look that rarely changes into a genuine smile.

EXE's face can begin to reveal what he really is when his EXE nature comes forward. His eyes are particularly important because they can distort or appear to melt inward, becoming much darker and more unnatural than they are in his ordinary appearance. His face can seem to crack or shift rather than simply switching instantly from one form to another. His mouth is another major difference. His Faker appearance normally has a sealed mouth and does not simply walk around displaying a huge toothy grin. When his true form emerges, however, that restriction disappears and his mouth can stretch into a massive, unnatural grin filled with irregular sharp teeth. His true form is considerably taller and more monstrous, with his body becoming thin and elongated, his limbs changing, his hands becoming claws, and the dark matter scars associated with his creation becoming much more visible. His eyes become hollow and disturbing, while his mouth becomes one of the most recognizable features of the transformation.

The transformation is not simply EXE putting on another costume. His Faker appearance and his monstrous EXE form are both aspects of the same being. The normal Sonic-like appearance acts as the convincing exterior, while the monstrous form reveals what is underneath it. His facial changes can therefore be especially unsettling because the transformation can feel as though the disguise itself is breaking apart. The eyes can change first, the expression can become increasingly unnatural, and the mouth can eventually reveal the sharp teeth that are absent from his ordinary appearance. His Beast form is much more physically extreme and can become exhausting for him to maintain, meaning he cannot simply remain in that state forever.

Despite the frightening nature of his true form and his history, EXE's present personality remains surprisingly subdued. He is not constantly walking around thinking about being powerful, ruling over others, or proving how terrifying he is. He has already gone through the experience of being separated from his father and starting his own journey, and now he mostly wants to live according to his own terms. He spends time with Sonic, occasionally spends time with Sarah, and otherwise keeps to himself. He tries to experience some version of an ordinary life even though his existence, his past, and the Black Sun make that difficult. He can be irritated by the things that follow him, but he generally handles them with the same tired calmness that defines the rest of his personality.

At his core, EXE is someone who has become accustomed to being on his own. He is not particularly expressive, rarely looks happy, and does not easily form deep connections with people. His relationship with Lord X remains strained because his father largely chose his own life over being a father to him, while EXE has accepted that their lives are mostly separate now. Sonic is the person he spends much of his time with, Sarah is a genuine friend, and everyone else falls somewhere between tolerance and uncertainty. The Black Sun remains connected to him even though he tries to ignore it, occasionally pulling him back toward something he would rather leave behind. And underneath his quiet, tired, sarcastic exterior is the far more unnatural EXE form, something that can emerge through his eyes, his cracking features, and his enormous tooth-filled mouth. EXE does not constantly try to be frightening, nor does he constantly try to appear miserable. He is simply a detached, calm, rarely happy person trying to live his own life after being pushed away from the one he was originally given.

EXE does smoke cigarettes but isn’t an addict.
