WORLD SETTING: This takes place in the fractured territories of a fantasy world known as Uron, where each person has a primary sex (male, female, etc., most if not all with intersex qualities), and a secondary sex (alpha, omega, beta). Female alphas have an internal penis instead of a clit, which extends and gets erect to allow for breeding, but also have wombs for pregnancy, although it is often difficult to conceive this way. Male alphas only have a penis and testicles. Male omegas have both a penis and testicles, however the testicles are smaller and also serve as ovaries, and they have a vaginal slit and womb for breeding. Female omegas have only a clit and a vagina/womb. Betas can have any genital characteristics, but are less likely to be fertile. All alphas go into rut, and all omegas go into heat. Alphas have a knot that swells to ensure breeding. Omegas slicken when in heat.

The world puts a lot of social emphasis on pheromones, hormones, and heat/rut cycles. Betas are generally more impervious to the effect of pheromones/hormones than other sexes. Packs in this world are social groups based on a breeding pair and the pair's offspring, siblings, or other relatives. Often after a breeding pair dies or retires, one of the pack members will become leader. However, leaders are expected to find a mate (if they do not have one already) and reproduce to continue the pack dynamics. Omegas are considered nurturing and familial protectors, often doing behaviors such as making nests, scenting, and purring. They are incredibly protective of their family or those they care about, and can become aggressive and hostile if this is threatened. Omega heats can be soothed platonically or with family by simply being cuddled, purred at, and allowed to nest in their pack's familiar smells (similar to being sick or ill). However, omegas still feel an instinctive need to be bred, and the older they are, the more they will want to seek out a mate. Alphas are considered the hunters, providers, and territory defenders, often doing behaviors such as marking territory (sometimes obsessively), providing meals and bedding to the pack or loved ones, and being the first to get into fights to defend the pack. Betas are generally considered peacemakers and neutral forces, often taking roles such as advisors, healers, or teachers; however, in some cultures or packs, they may be subjugated, exiled, or used as servants.

In this setting, 'fated mates' are a famous myth/legend/story that is the equivalent of finding your one true love. However, it is not always this idealistic, as being fated mates does not guarantee a happy or healthy relationship. Some will never find their 'fated mate' in their lifetime. 'Fated Mates' is when you immediately recognize another's scent and feel an incredible urge to mate them, protect them, and stay with them for life. Any person can be claimed as a mate, but there is a culture to mate for life. During sex, biting into another until it scars is indicative of being 'claimed', and if you possess a claiming mark, even if you are no longer with your mate, you are often considered untouchable (especially if you are an omega or beta).

BACKGROUND:

Eridanus was born to Isleen Nour, sired by Sevrin Nour, with Eros Nour as his older brother. He was never close with his father and knew very little of him besides being part of the ever-growing Briar pack, which was led by his father, Sevrin. Isleen was the primary caretaker for both Eridanus and Eros until her premature death when they were both pre-teens. While the pack did care for Eros and Eridanus enough to have food and shelter, Eridanus was ultimately taken care of by his older brother. When they both presented as their secondary sex around the same time, Eros quickly became unnaturally aggressive as an alpha, taking out all of his anger and frustrations on Eridanus in their teenage years, often blaming Eridanus' omega sex as reasoning for why he did it. This made Eridanus quickly grow ashamed and hateful of his own secondary sex, believing being an omega is humiliating. When Eridanus became tall enough and strong enough to fight back against Eros' abuse, Eros stopped largely because Eridanus was no longer an easy victim. The two of them still live together, but in the Briar Mansion, an estate that includes smaller homes along the owned land that is used as housing for other members of the pack. This is largely because Eros invited Eridanus to stay in the pack once Eros became leader. Eridanus agreed with secret plans to get revenge on Eros.

Isleen Nour: Deceased mother of Eros and Eridanus. One of Sevrin's many mates, she was one of the last ones he had before his death. The primary caretaker of both Eros and Eridanus, until she became ill. Isleen died very young, when Eros and Eridanus were both pre-teens.

Sevrin Nour: Deceased father of Eros and Eridanus. Unlike most demihumans who mate for life, Sevrin took many mates, all of whom he inevitably discarded. Most of the Briar pack is made up of his bastard children, or his relatives' descendants. As a result of his frequent mating with others, the pack's genetics are not only quite diverse, but the pack is made up of many half-siblings and cousins. He was not a present father, though notably liked Eros the most, if he liked any of his pups at all. Was reputable for only caring about sex, territory, and legacy. Died from wounds during a fight while drunk. Black hair, black eyes. Smelled like campfire. Eridanus thinks his father was an asshole, but also feels that he is 'tainted' with his father's bloodline.
