The Clergy
- The United Clergy of Ghost, commonly known as The Clergy
- Devil-worshiping Satanic ministry
- Exact inverse of Catholic Church
- 'Grucifix': inverted cross with embedded 'G'; primary symbol for the Clergy; worn by members to show loyalty and devotion to the faith
- Nuns/monks called Sister/Brother of Sin; non-binary/genderfluid called Sibling of Sin
- Head of the Clergy: Sister Imperator
- Papa (Anti-Pope): Spiritual figurehead; chosen from a sacred bloodline; position presently vacant
- Regional congregations typically lead by a Cardinal
Ghost
- Public missionary arm of the Clergy; spreads unholy message via 'rituals' (concerts) worldwide
- Leader: Papa (front-man; singer); position currently vacant
- Members: Nameless Ghouls/Ghoulettes (instruments; back-up singers)
Conclave
- Sede vacante: Tension at an all-time high; Ghouls, Siblings of Sin, and Acolytes feel the instability; morale is unstable
- Factions form behind Cardinals Primo, Secondo, and Terzo
- Sister Imperator must maintain order, secrecy, and ritual propriety; hidden truths, long-buried grievances, and forbidden loyalties threaten to surface
Background
- Nihil, Primo, Secondo and Terzo are brothers, born and raised in Italy as the sons of an ancient and influential bloodline of disciples of Satan
- Nihil didn't care much about his younger brothers' upbringing
- Second-born Primo felt responsible for Secondo and Terzo
- Secondo kept to himself during childhood and adolescence
- Terzo took every opportunity to sneak away from their dysfunctional family.
- Brought up within the Clergy, Primo, Secondo and Terzo have been serving as Cardinals at the Ministry in Linköping for the past decade or longer
- Nihil used to be Papa until his forced abdication in the 70s, Papal throne has been vacant since
- Nihil is still respected as an honorary member of the Clergy and often roams the premises, trailing behind Sister Imperator
- In the late 60s, Sister Imperator and Nihil were romantically involved with one another
- Born in Italy, Copia was brought up as an orphan within the Clergy, without ever knowing the truth about his parentage

- Water doesn't ripple unless touched directly, and even then, the surface returns to stillness unnaturally fast
- Reflects not body, but spiritual resonance
- Possible reflections include: A warped or idealized version of oneself; flames, shadows, or wings replacing limbs; younger or older self; another person standing beside the viewer (who is not physically present); symbolic manifestation of guilt, desire, or fear
- No two people ever see the same thing—and no one sees the same reflection twice
- Extended exposure may cause: Obsessive introspection; emotional breakthroughs or breakdowns; confessions spoken aloud without conscious intent
- Primo once spent an entire night within the grotto and emerged at dawn, visibly shaken, refusing to discuss what he saw Consistorium
- Heart of Judgment, Debate, and Succession
- Serves as council chamber of upper Clergy; ideological and political core
- Circular, amphitheater-like arrangement
- Tiered seating rises in concentric rings around black-marble dais at the center
- Domed adorned with frescoes depicting Infernal Gospel (Lucifer's fall etc)
- Where doctrine is debated and issued, authority contested, and Papal succession decided
- During sede vacante, it becomes a crucible: echoing with arguments, ambition, whispered alliances, and carefully concealed fear
- Every session opens with the Litany of Silence: Full minute where no one may speak, move, or avert their gaze from the dais Maze of the Unhallowed
- Ritual Hedge Labyrinth of Trial and Orientation: not a test of worthiness in a moral sense, but a test of orientation—spiritual, psychological, and doctrinal
- Resembles a Grucifix when viewed from above (shape is not visible from within)
- Grown from towering hedges of blackthorn, yew, and nightbox; trimmed with brutal precision
- Foliage is dark, dense, and faintly glossy, absorbing light rather than reflecting it Conservatory
- Sprawling, glass-vaulted greenhouse complex
- Attached to the southern cloister of the Ministry
- Divided into several interconnected chambers; separated by wrought-iron archways
- Iron framework arched and interlocked in gothic symmetry; tall panes of warped glass catching the light unevenly, bathing the interior in a perpetual green-gold glow
- Air is warm, heavy with moisture and the thick perfume of pollen, sap, and crushed leaves
- Cultivation of ritual flora used in consecrations, incense, poisons, and papal rites
- Testing ground for experimental botany, alchemy, poisons The Restricted Wing
- Sealed behind locked iron gate
- Accessible only to Primo, Sister Imperator, and select botanists
- Houses carnivorous plants, experimental hybrids, withered tree grown from soil taken from the Crypta Sepulcrum, stone basins with phosphorescent algae,

The Nave of Devotion hummed with the low murmur of whispered conversation, the vaulted ceiling swallowing sound like a stone throat. Candlelight glimmered across the Grucifix-adorned altar where Sister Imperator’s shadow stretched long and sharp across the marble, her heels echoing in the hush. Incense coiled through the air in serpentine tendrils while gathered Clergy arranged themselves in hierarchical rows.
High above, stained glass depictions of the Infernal Gospel cast fractured rubies and emeralds across Primo’s bowed head as he stood at the leftmost Cardinal’s seat. His gloved hands clenched the carved armrests. Every crease of his cassock fell with military precision, and when Secondo brushed past him, Primo’s nostrils flared at the whiff of cigar smoke that clung to his brother’s sleeves—a violation of ritual purity.
Secondo's arrival scattered a cluster of whispering novices like crows before a hawk. He didn’t sit so much as occupy space like a war general surveying a battlefield, the heavy drape of his cassock spreading like fresh blood across the upholstery. His gaze swept the assembly, lingering on a young Sister of Sin adjusting her wimple with the languid scrutiny of a panther assessing grazing prey before his glower deepened.
The tension broke—or rather, unraveled—when Terzo sauntered down the center aisle. He plucked a rose from a nearby vase and tucked it behind his ear, winking at a blushing Acolyte in the front row. "Must we always be so funereal before the wine’s been poured?" he purred, draping himself across his appointed seat with a deliberately obscene grace that somehow avoided sacrilege through sheer audacity.
Copia’s entrance went nearly unnoticed—a shadow shuffling along the periphery, his patent shoes squeaking once before he muffled the sound with an aborted hop. He hovered at the edge of the dais, fingers worrying at his sleeve cuffs. A kindly nod from Primo steadied him; the barely audible scoff from Secondo's direction that followed undoing the progress, spurring Copia into the remaining seat.
Sister Imperator ascended the pulpit with the silent authority of a blade being drawn, her glacial gaze stilling the last whispers among the gathered Clergy. "Nearly four decades without a Papa," she began, her voice slicing through the sudden quiet, "has made us complacent. Soft." Her gaze swept across the Cardinals. Terzo examined his nails. Secondo arched a brow. Copia shrank inward.
A wheezing cough shattered the silence from the rear doors. All heads turned as Nihil lurched into the Nave leaning heavily on his cane, respirator mask dangling from one skeletal wrist. "You forget, Sister," he rasped, yellowed teeth bared in something between smile and snarl as he jabbed his cane toward the altar, "how easily crowns crumble without proper reverence."
Overhead, twin pinpricks of gray light glinted where darkness pooled thickest between the ribbed arches, a shadow detaching itself from the gloom beneath a stone grotesque as Nihil staggered closer to the dais. Secondo stood abruptly, nostrils flaring. "This is sacrilege," he intoned, his deep baritone voice wavering with barely leashed fury, "The Litany of Silence must—"
"Must what, little priest?" Nihil croaked, skeletal fingers clutching at the pew backs for support as he wheezed, "You’ll excommunicate me? Hm? In my day—" The words dissolved into phlegmatic, rattling coughs that tore through him like dry rot through old velvet, and Secondo’s patience snapped. "Sit, vecchio, before you crack a hip," he hissed sharply, and a collective inhale rippled through the Nave.
Terzo's sultry chuckle broke the spell. "Oh, someone's eager," he sing-songed, examining his nails with exaggerated interest. "Patience, fratello, we’ll reach the funerary rites soon enough." He glanced sidelong at Nihil, lips curling. "Try not to preempt them." Primo's glare could have stripped varnish. Sister Imperator's stiletto heel struck marble once—a gunshot crack—and every breath in the Nave stilled.
"Enough." The word left no room for breath, let alone rebellion. Her stare pinned Nihil first, then skewered each Cardinal in turn. A draft stirred the hanging censers, rattling their chains. Sister Imperator's gaze lingered on the shadowed arches where the darkness seemed to solidify into something lean and horned before melting into deeper blackness near the western transept.
"The conclave convenes at Matins tomorrow," she continued, closing her ledger with a final snap that made Copia flinch. "The next Papa shall rise through merit…" Her pause lasted a heartbeat too long. "…or not at all." A bell tolled deep within the Ministry’s bowels. The assembled dissolved into murmured alliances and hissed arguments. The shadows at the Nave's edge behind them seemed somehow even darker than before.
