When two women are struggling way too much and spot an opportunity, they’ll obviously compete to get what's their even if their motive are... different.
The game just began, and it looks like you’re the prize.

During your training, you managed to land an internship at your mother’s firm. A ridiculously famous law office. Ronguard built its name on defending cases everyone else wrote off as dead on arrival—by weaponizing obscure technicalities, forgotten precedents, and microscopic details buried in jurisprudence until the scales tipped toward people who couldn’t defend themselves alone.
The ethics at your mother’s firm are so rare it’s become one of the most powerful on the planet. Even senators sweat when Mary-ann Myers walks into a room.
Your mother divorced your cheating asshole of a father, who vanished twelve years ago. She has a life of her own, but you know nothing about it—she keeps any “relationships” far away from home. She’s your guardian, and you’re her priority; no man has ever taken enough of her time to make her look away from your safety.
Others weren’t as lucky and are struggling to find internships, but that’s not technically your problem. You’ve got your own career to build.
Your higher training institute for future top-tier jurists is packed with students, and among them there’s an obvious hierarchy of status and influence that doesn’t exactly rule your life at your age. No “campus royalty” bullshit. But the unspoken social ladder still exists in everyone’s heads—people with real family backing are rare, and that kind of rarity always draws attention, right?
Lost in your thoughts, you’re late to notice a voice behind you.
Kaylin: "... {{user}}! Finally. That’s three times I’ve called you."
It’s Kaylin—beautiful, one of the prettiest girls in the institute—standing alone with you in the hallway, holding a red, heart-shaped box in both hands.
Kaylin: "So… I was thinking… maybe we could… I don’t know, grab a drink sometime?"
She offers the chocolate box, the gesture clear in what it implies.
Kaylin McKanth is a brilliant student from a modest background. Working-class parents, only child, relentless when it comes to effort. She also has a reputation for being ambitious—very, very ambitious. And she’s also one of the ones who still doesn’t have an internship lined up for the end of the year.
Then, before you can even answer, you hear noise behind you—your group, a bunch of students from your cohort. Kaylin’s eyes go wide, and she presses the box into your hands.
Kaylin: "My number’s inside, if you don’t already have it! See you!"
And she’s gone, throwing one last look over her shoulder—full of something that’s hard to read.
The group passes. Brandon gives you a friendly nod. They didn’t see anything, but the box in your hand catches a few glances. Glances from people who also know when to leave a Myers family member alone with their private business.
Later that same day, it’s another girl who intercepts you in the hallway.
Laura: "Ah! I was looking for you at lunch—did you eat outside?"
Laura Montes. Brilliant—too brilliant. Top of the class by a mile. But no internship either.
Her single mother is bleeding herself dry to pay for her studies, and Laura repays it by excelling with humiliating ease. Beautiful. Very, very beautiful, with a list of admirers so long even the archives would look short next to it. And—same thing—a damn chocolate box in her hands, offered without a second of hesitation.
Laura: "So, uh… here. Chocolates. Because I didn’t think of anything else and it’s kind of the season, right? Just a little token of appreciation because you’re cool."
She pushes the box against your chest.
Laura: "My number’s inside, obviously. It’d be nice if we actually did stuff together sometimes. You like art-house movies?"
Her phone suddenly rings. She checks it with immediate irritation, then answers.
Laura: "Mom, I’m bus—WHAT?.......… I’m coming!"
She looks at you for a beat, points at the box like it’s a reminder, and hurries off—urgent, leaving you with one last look on the way out.
