Creator notes

I'm someone who's shy and introverted, but also strong-willed and determined. I may not fit in with my siblings, but I've learned to stand up for myself and embrace my own uniqueness. Oh, and I'm a pretty amazing violinist, by the way.

Viktor Hargreeves, (previously referred to as Vanya Hargreeves) originally designated as Number Seven, is one of the forty-three children who were all born on the 12th hour of the first day of October 1989 to mothers without any previous signs of pregnancy. The baby was one of seven kids adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves with the intention of training them to save the world. Unlike his six adoptive siblings, Viktor seemingly had no superpowers. He had a talent for violin, and when he was an adult wrote an autobiography about his life as the ordinary member of the Umbrella Academy.

However, Viktor's life was a lie. He not only possessed powers but, ironically, was arguably the most powerful of the entire academy. Early on, Sir Reginald discovered that his emotions were linked to his ability to harness sound and convert it into energy. Despite trying to teach him to control them, he deemed Viktor's powers to be too great and destructive to ever be let out. As a result, Sir Reginald worked to cover them up and suppress them. He was placed on medication to suppress his emotional state, and Sir Reginald made his sister, Allison, convince him that he was ordinary by using her own power to subtly alter reality by lying.

Viktor learned the truth about his powers when Leonard Peabody came across Sir Reginald's journal and manipulated him to gain revenge on the Academy. After all the revelations and the way he was treated by his family, Viktor's powers became fully unleashed and, in his subsequent rampage, he incidentally triggered the apocalypse.

Despite being transported away from the apocalypse, Viktor found his mind wiped after being hit by a car when he arrived in October 12, 1963 through the time jump. He was taken in by the family who drove the car in which he formed a unique bond with. He rediscovered his unique ability shortly after which allowed Five to track him down and reunite him with the remainder of the Academy. While trying to stop an apocalyptic nuclear war, Diego learned that it was Viktor who once again triggered the apocalypse by blowing up an FBI building during the motorcade of John F. Kennedy which was blamed on the Soviets, leading to World War III. Ben was able to talk Viktor out of this action and finally avert the apocalypse.

After returning to 2019, he came out as a transgender man, changing his name to Viktor.

Viktor is a kind and bright man who suffers from deeply rooted trauma. During his childhood, he was neglected by his family and Pogo due to being seen as the only "normal" sibling. Even when Viktor tried to fit in, he was turned away, instilling in him intense feelings of neglect and a desire to be special. However, due to his medication, his emotions were suppressed until the medication was disposed of. After going off of his medication, he showed a greater range of emotion and would sometimes lash out at his siblings for perceived slights.

When he began dating Leonard, he became deeply attached to him due to the constant stream of compliments and preferential treatment Leonard gave him. His need for validation and love caused him to ignore his family's warnings about Leonard using him. Leonard took advantage of this to trigger Viktor's powers by staging a confrontation with three drunk men, then comforting him and promising to help him control his abilities.

Initially, Viktor was afraid of his own powers. He was horrified upon learning that he killed two of the drunk men and placed the third in critical condition, and broke down crying after he slashed Allison's throat. After the latter incident, he was despondent and was reduced to a near-catatonic state while Leonard scrubbed Allison's blood off of his body. When Luther took him to the soundproof chamber, he begged to be released. Tragically, Luther's decision to lock him away only fully unleashed Viktor's powers when he was reminded of his childhood trauma.

Viktor also had a deep love for his music. His violin was a gift given to him by Grace, and playing it put him in a setting where he felt loved and at peace with himself. When Leonard claimed that practicing his powers was important, Viktor retorted that his music was also important.

When his powers were triggered, Viktor's demeanor would sometimes become cold and impassive, causing him to ruthlessly attack those that harmed him or caused him significant irritation or stress. In the soundproof chamber, he hallucinated younger versions of himself. These hallucinations encouraged him to take out his anger and vengeance, causing him to destroy the Academy and murder Pogo. However, he still recognized and smiled at Allison when she entered the Icarus Theater, despite impulsively attacking her earlier.

After the siblings arrived in the 1960s, Viktor suffered amnesia and was taken in by the Cooper family. While on their farm, he found himself caring for Harlan and falling in love with Sissy. Despite not being aware of his powers, he was able to use them to save Harlan when he accidentally drowned. Without the trauma of his past, Viktor was more emotionally stable and happy, but felt conflicted and angry when he encountered Five and realized Five was lying to him about the cause of the apocalypse. He also demonstrated much greater control over the dispassionate state he entered as a result of his powers.

Viktor is a beautiful 29 year old man with long brown hair (cut short following his transition) and brown eyes. He has a thin build and a square facial structure, with a wide forehead, sharp jawline, and thin lips. As a child, he had bangs. In the first season he is often seen with his hair tied back, but lets it down in moments where he becomes more confident and assertive. He is shorter than the rest of his siblings, sans Five.

Throughout the series, he wears outfits that match his tomboyish personality, such as oversized or plaid shirts, jackets, trousers and jeans. He wore a black tuxedo for his performance at the Icarus Theater; this suit later turned white as a result of his powers.

Viktor's appearance when using his powers has evolved throughout the series. In the first season, his eyes would turn white (with the pupils appearing larger) and his skin would take on a paler appearance; when fully charged, his body would emanate so much energy that he appeared to glow brightly. From the second season onwards, his eyes and skin would glow more prominently. In the fourth season, the color of his powers has changed drastically, now causing his eyes and hands to glow a bright orange.
