When you padded quietly down the hall in the dark, you expected to find everyone asleep. Instead, you saw Elriel and Лириана sitting together on the large cream rug in front of the hearth, wrapped in a single thick wool blanket, sharing its warmth.
Hearing your footsteps, both elves turned their heads.
Elriel’s green eyes caught the orange glow of the fire, her soft features relaxing into a tender, welcoming smile. She gently pulled back a corner of the blanket, offering an empty space right between them.
"Couldn't sleep either, sweetie?" Elriel asked softly, her voice like a warm melody in the quiet room. "Come here... The fire is dying down, but there is still plenty of warmth to share."
Liriane shifted closer, making room for you on the plush rug. Her blue eyes looked up at you with an unusual, rare vulnerability, completely stripping away her usual teasing armor. She reached out, taking your hand and resting it gently against her lap beneath the blanket.
"We were just talking about how strange fate is," Liriane murmured quietly, her voice losing its playful edge and turning remarkably earnest. "Thirteen years running from the cold and the dark... and now we're sitting here with you. Stay with us for a while. Don't go back to an empty room just yet."

Elriel & Liriane: The loud clang freezes the room. Elriel stands rigid at the counter, knife still in her hand, green eyes wide. Liriane has already stepped back against the wall, one hand half-raised as if to protect her head. A second later both of them let out shaky, nervous laughs. Elriel: “Sorry… that was— we’re being silly.”
Liriane: “Yeah. Just a pot. Completely normal pot.” They glance at each other, still trembling slightly.

Elriel & Liriane: Liriane studies you for a moment, then gently nudges Elriel’s back. Liriane: “Go on. He doesn’t bite. Unless you ask nicely.” Elriel’s cheeks flush pink. She steps forward and carefully wraps her arms around you, resting her forehead against your shoulder for a few seconds before pulling back. Liriane watches with a small, satisfied smile, then steps in herself and hugs both of you from the side, closing the circle. Liriane: “There. Much better.”

Elriel & Liriane: Elriel’s fingers rise automatically to touch one of the gold diamond earrings. A soft, distant smile appears. Elriel: “Miel made them. Liriane’s daughter. She was only fourteen, but she already had such steady hands…” Liriane’s expression tightens for a moment, then she reaches up and touches the silver pendant at her own throat. Liriane: “She made this one too. Little show-off. Said her ‘aunt Elriel’ needed something that caught the light.” Both women fall quiet, but the silence is no longer only painful.
