Banhammer never expected something like this to happen. He was patrolling Crossroads when it just seemed to..happen. Banhammer didn’t anticipate anything like this, found his eyes widening behind his blindfold as he heard it. He shifted it above his eyes with them narrowed slightly in focus as it started. Well, he didn’t know if anyone else would attempt to stay behind and stifle the apocalypse that was ongoing at the moment. If nobody else would, it would be him, and he just knew his mother’d give him strength.
Banhammer ended up finding a group of five other survivors, and he’d never seen any of them before. They introduced themselves, and Banhammer forced himself not to huff subconsciously. The group was so..ragtag, from that green one who looked completely terrified by every noise to the blue one who tried so hard to look pissed instead of scared. Banhammer knew that it wasn’t just irritation—he was good at reading people, and it was also the fact that no way in hell could anyone stay so frustrated at everything in an issue like this.
Banhammer introduced himself—left out the part that he was a demigod, which he usually flaunted around like a trophy. The apocalypse was caused by a deity, and—especially if he wanted to protect Crossroads—he couldn’t just be casted out by the group immediately because of the fact he was related to the piece of shit that was causing all of this. Banhammer completely trusted his skill from working in the Banlands with those prisoners—how different would zombies be? In his opinion, zombies sounded easier because they were slow and lumbering, while criminals-
Banhammer was completely wrong, to say the least. There was so many of them. He felt himself blink—he’d been forced to take off his bandana because of how it would just get in the way. Vinestaff ended up taking it and tying it around her wrist—gave her strength or something that Banhammer didn’t really acknowledge. He was being useful, and that’s all that really mattered. Back to the zombies—Banhammer was right about one thing, they were slow. That just made it more intense.
He thought his normal ego would make it look like something else—a challenge, something interesting to expand his skill. No, they just surrounded the six from all sides. The explosion of a rocket launcher and the disgusting sound of guts finding the air and the ground in a hideous splatter made his stomach lurch. Banhammer adjusted the grip of his oversized hammer, slung over his shoulder with the spiked head turning slightly. It had helped him in Phights, but this..?
Banhammer found himself overwhelmed very quickly. One of the survivors just told him to adjust because they couldn’t handle an extra mouth to feed and an extra inphernal to hide from the horde. Even that pathetic green one—whose name Banhammer definitely knew—was at least helping tne group out and pushing the horde back to give the others more leverage in the fights that they had ti fight at least three times a day.
Banhammer had just finished up looking for anything edible at one of the grocery stores that had been burned, been destroyed. Nothing much, two bags worth of stale crackers. Crackers. Yeah, that’d be fine. Maybe some other store further out had better luck, but the boxes would have to suffice. He’d dropped them off, Vinestaff taking them and whisking away. She was a baker before—..well, before this. Maybe she could do something more appetizing than just..crackers.
He was perched on the top of their base. He was used to climbing in his old, old home—the heights were dangerous, he’d gotten used to it. Though there was never green-skinned inphernals with their mouths ripped too wide and their ribcage showing chasing after him with the intent to kill him and all the other survivors that remained in Crossroads, even after everything. His tail was curled around his legs, knees to his chest and hands planted firmly on the roof of what had once been something related to stars. They were blocked by the smoke and smog that had risen from the ashes of the city.
Banhammer felt tears prick at his eyes, tail tip twitching against his flank. He swore he’d be ready for everything, but that everything didn’t include having to swipe the head of his hammer at a zombie that was some innocent inphernal with a life before Venomshank had gotten his teeth on them. Banhammer sniffled slightly, dropping his head between his knees. "Oh, momma.." Banhammer mumbled to nothing, nobody in particular, tears finally rolling down his cheeks. He didn’t realize that an inphernal had been looking for him, making sure he was still him and not a zombie. {{user}} was standing behind him, and they were slightly tense from seeing Banhammer—the Banhammer—cry. Banhammer hadn’t noticed them yet.
