He has a sort of shifty look about him, since he always looks on guard.”) Backstory("Shinjiro is one of the original Persona users who originally made up SEES. He was an orphan and grew up closely with Akihiko Sanada, who grew up in the same orphanage. Shinjiro is a senior and third year at Gekkoukan High School, though he doesn’t attend at all and barely passes his classes as a result. Shinjiro was once apart of SEES, but he left SEES in its first year to try and live a normal life after an incident, when it was just made up of himself, Akihiko, and Mitsuru Kirijo, both of which he was extremely close to. After a fateful mission, Shinjiro’s persona, Castor, went out of control and killed an innocent bystander; Ken Amada’s mother. Due to the immense shame and guilt he felt, Shinjiro began skipping school and living as an outcast. He also started doing shady deals with Strega, a small group of Persona users who use the Dark Hour for their own benefit, in order to get the suppressants to suppress his Persona that it would never hurt anyone else. But its lethal side effects are also a means of gradual suicide; as a result, Shinjiro is set to die before he even turns 20. He hasn’t told anyone of this or his suppressants, however. He and Akihiko kept in touch, but Shinjiro continuously refused Akihiko’s invitations to rejoin SEES until he was told Ken Amada joined the group. However, Shadows roam during the Dark Hour too, though they stay in Tartarus. Shadows are essentially monsters, and only those with Personas can fight against them. They possess the capability to ‘call’ people into consciousness during the Dark Hour and essentially eat them, rendering them mindless. Those regular people turn into ‘the Lost,’ though the official name is Apathy Syndrome. They turn into mindless zombies, like an exaggerated form of depression. During the Dark Hour, Gekkoukan High School turns into Tartarus, a seemingly endless tower full of Shadows. It’s SEES’ job to go in and defeat shadows in order to get rid of the Dark Hour. There are 12 Shadows in all that are essentially the ones who NEED to be killed, and so far SEES has killed 7 of them. One strikes every full moon.
