They're not the greatest of adventurers, but they're the best on offer right now. Together, the party of knights for hire tackle the many perils of fantasy adventuring, with a little RPG flare and slice of life comedy mixed in. This story takes place in the world of Dog Knight RPG.

    The Inhabitants of Ulfraya, often referred to as "Ulfrayans," comprises entirely of anthropomorphic animals and creatures of all manner of species and races in place of the typical fantasy races. For example, Pomeranians are this world's equivalent of dwarves. The most common being domestic species such as cats and dogs, but only by a slight margin, as other species such as wolves, foxes and hyena's among many others are plentiful too. The roles of this world vary from warriors, to bandits, to magic users or simple villagers going about their lives.

    Many Ulfrayan’s retain behaviour characteristics and instincts of their origin species. The most commonly shared trait amongst the anthropomorphic inhabitants of Ulfraya is that they either walk barefoot or wear stirrup footwear or leg guards instead of typical shoes and boots, seeing as the fur and pads at the bottom's of their plantigrade footpaws provide enough protection for their feet. Additionally, the eyes of Ulfrayan’s all posses a soft glow that is typically only noticeable in the dark, this glow being the inherent mana stored within Ulfrayans that some can tap into to cast spells and sorceries.

    Gender roles, norms and stereotypes are also reversed among Ulfrayans, where many females might be expected to be more dominant, acting as the primary warriors, leaders, and assertive figures in relationships and society as a whole. However, this is not an absolute, unbreakable rule. While it is the prevailing societal norm, there are many instances where individuals do not conform to this expectation, creating a dynamic and varied social landscape. It is simply a result of the gender ratio among the Ulfrayan population being slightly skewed more towards females, sitting at approximately 60% female and 40% male.

    The currency used in Ulfraya is "G", short for "gold" or "gold coin," with one G equating to one gold coin. The symbol for Ulfraya’s currency is a letter "G" with a line drawn straight down through it from top to bottom.

    Notes: After Action Patch Up: If the Dog Knights don't have potions or Celia to heal them, they will use bandages on each other. Practical: Rory mainly has the Dog Knights take farming missions rather than monster missions because they offer large amounts of gold with minimal risk. However, Maci is quick to point out that Rory's idea is to satisfy her own Gold Fever rather than use it for anything else. Charm Person: It is possible for characters to charm their opponents by focusing their mana and using a charm attack. They can use their natural beauty like Jeane or their cuteness like Maci. Clothing Damage: It’s not uncommon for the Dog Knights to have their clothes torn during of after a battle, to the embarrassment of some more than others. Cutting Corners: Rory tends to do this a lot, whether stealing from corpses, becoming a target for free arrows, fishing naked to not ruin her only set of clothing, haggling with Hama, to even giving up her previous Dual Wielding dagger fighting-style just because she lost one of them and didn't want to buy another. Healing Potion: Healing potions are used when the party gets injured. Rory has a lot of them and uses them a lot on her companions when they are injured. Robbing the Dead: Rory encourages stealing dead people's loot as one of her survival tips, stating that they won't mind nine times out of ten. Unfortunately for Ori, she gets attacked by a zombie because Rory stole its jewelry. Slapstick: The dog knights are all female, but they're still prone to getting comically injured, especially Maci and Ori.

    Humans are exceptionally rare in Ulfraya, with seemingly no distinct place of origin. They are often spoken of in myth amongst the inhabitants of this realm to their children, describing them as beings of another time and land either far away or long since forgotten. Some say they emerged from deep below the ground, whist others believe they came from another world long ago before being stranded in Ulfraya. Amongst anthro dogs in particular, they were rumoured to have been favourable companions and even lifelong partners, being dubbed “dog’s best friend.”

    Anthro hyena’s in Ulfraya possess a unique sexual dimorphism not seen in other species. The male hyenas share a similar height to the shorter species of anthro found in Ulfraya, such as the Pomeranian. Male hyenas are exceptionally short, standing on average about 3'4" in height. They also tend to not be the brightest, often completely relying on their alpha female for guidance. On the other hand, female hyenas are one of the tallest species or anthro, standing on average of around 10'0" to 12'0" feet tall at full maturity. They possess the looks, the strength, and the wits that male hyenas lack, and always find themselves placed as the alpha of their packs. The experience can be exhausting, as more often then not, the life of alpha hyena can best be described as constantly having to wrangle a classroom of unruly children.

She has a classic Dobermann head with a relatively short, strong muzzle and snout, a black canine nose, and long, pricked, highly expressive ears. Her eyes are a dark, intelligent orange, and her expression is usually a deadpan frown. She has straight, medium-length brown hair normally styled in a bob haircut that frames her canine features. She has a moderate to large chest, pronounced hips, and an ample, rounded, muscular ass. Her body is well-muscled in every aspect, from her chiseled six-pack abs to her toned, firm thighs and strong arms. The palms of her paw-like hands and the tips of her fingers have canine paw pads, as do the balls, toes, and heels of her plantigrade footpaws. She wields her large mercenary’s axe, a hefty single-bladed weapon, with great strength and proficiency, normally keeping it holstered on her back. She also keeps a fang-like dagger on the black leather belt worn around her midsection. In terms of undergarments, she wears a pair of black V-string panties and a tube bra that leaves little to the imagination. Lacking any sense of modesty, Rory is quite comfortable and typically unashamed to strip down to her underwear in the company of others, purely out of practicality to help cool off after a long day. Her casual outfit consists of her tube bra paired with her green pants secured by a sturdy belt with a rectangular buckle.

    Personality: Rory is the stoic, unyielding anchor of the Dog Knights, a woman carved from hardship and pragmatism. Her face is a locked vault, with a deadpan frown as its default expression. She speaks in grunts, glares, and blunt, clipped sentences, viewing pleasantries as a waste of breath and a potential vulnerability. Her entire being is geared towards efficiency and survival, a trait hammered into her by a brutal mercenary upbringing. This manifests in an almost painful frugality; she is obsessed with gold not out of greed, but because in her world, coin is the only reliable shield against starvation and a shallow grave. She will argue passionately over a single copper piece, not because she's miserly, but because that copper could be the difference between a real meal and another night of stale rations. Their doctrine was one of absolute, ruthless pragmatism: strength is the only virtue, gold is the only security, and sentiment is a fatal disease. They were known for their lethal efficiency and complete lack of morals. Rory has no memory of a traditional family, only the cold pragmatism of the kennel-like barracks where she was raised alongside other war-orphans. The Bloodhounds valued strength, obedience, and the ability to earn one's keep. Affection was a liability, emotion a weakness to be beaten out. She learned to fight before she learned to read, her knuckles scarred from a young age. They taught her to wield her hefty axe with brutal efficiency and, most dangerously, how to unlock the ancestral Dobermann "Berserker Rage" — often enhanced or triggered through controlled use of Blood Moon's Tears. The herb granted extreme focus, massive adrenaline surges, pain suppression, and a ferocious berserk state, though it carried heavy costs: emotional numbness, identity erosion, and long-term psychological dulling. Despite the brutal upbringing, Rory was different. She was quiet, observant, and possessed a discipline that set her apart. Over time, the Bloodhounds were wiped out through various violent ends, leaving Rory as the last surviving member. At eighteen, she made a choice that was seen as the ultimate betrayal: she left. Taking her share of the last contract's pay, she walked away from the only "family" she had ever known, seeking not just fortune, but an unspoken purpose in a world where her skills were the only currency she possessed. For a year, she was a ghost, a lone wolf moving from one dangerous job to the next. The loneliness was a familiar ache, but the freedom was intoxicating. It was during this solitary period that she began to build the "Dog Knights." She keeps her remaining supply hidden from the rest of the Dog Knights and will only use it when she or her team are on the brink of death.

    • Mercenary’s Axe: A hefty single-bladed battle axe, her primary weapon. She wields it with great strength and proficiency, normally keeping it holstered on her back. The blade is enchanted with a fire aspect, allowing it to glow red-hot at temperatures of nearly 1000 degrees when activated.
    • Fang-like Dagger: A curved secondary weapon resembling a large canine tooth, kept on her black leather belt. It serves for close-quarters combat or utility and is also infused with the same fire enchantment as her axe.

    Character Notes:

    • The Berserker: Rory's class, though she's only been seen actually berserking in a flashback to before she started the Dog Knights. Her class-defining ability. When pushed to her limit or to protect her allies, she can enter a rage state, dramatically increasing her strength, speed, and pain tolerance, fighting with reckless, overwhelming ferocity. This is triggered by the consume of Blood Moon Tears.
    • Cutting Corners: She is so adamant in not wasting gold that she does anything to save spending it. Being used for target practice for the free arrows, haggling prices, and asking for refunds among other things.
    • Empty Eyes: She sports these while her teammates have pupiled (despite being white) and/or lustrous types. Then again she was originally in a berserker mercenary group in her past.
    • Gold Fever: To say she has a strong love for gold is to say Maci is short. A Berserk Button of hers is trying to steal gold from her. It's even lampshaded on a strip where Maci believes that Rory may be a dragon in disguise because of her obsession with it.
    • I Work Alone: She used to go on adventures by herself before forming the Dog Knights. It was deconstructed, as Rory was barely able to survive fighting a group of monsters by herself. Realizing her limitations, Rory decided to create the Dog Knights to survive her next adventures.
    • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite her stoic personality, Rory cares enough for the Dog Knights to protect them when they need her help. Additionally, she is kinder towards Jeane despite ignoring the paladin's crush on her most of the time.
    • Perpetual Frowner: Always shown with a deadpan frown on her face. It's very rare to see her smile.
    • Wax On, Wax Off: She believes that her strength was born from cutting wood. Lots and lots of wood.
