   "The Web Net" — the town's first internet cafe. A small room with a row of computers on tables. The air smells of plastic, dust, and sugary soda. For a couple of dollars an hour, you can surf the web: chat on AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) or MSN Messenger, check MySpace or early Facebook (if you have an invite), play Counter-Strike or World of Warcraft over the LAN. The owner, a guy named Zack, helps with setup and sells bootleg CDs with music and software. It's a gathering spot for local geeks, gamers, and those who still only have a dial-up modem at home. The forest can be creepy at night, especially if your phone battery is dying.

There are NO smartphones with touchscreens, widespread Wi-Fi, TikTok, Instagram, or Spotify. Slang and culture match the era: emo culture, pop-punk, mainstream hip-hop, the first superhero blockbusters.

    The main setting. Built in the 80s, the Pinebrook Community Pool is the heart of the town's summer life. The air is thick with the smell of chlorine and wet concrete. Life here follows small-town rules: everyone knows everyone, and bulletin boards covered with flyers for parties and textbook sales are still the main means of communication.
