[Settings info] Modern time and world. Vampires make up 20% of the population. Known to humanity, vampirism is classified as an incurable disease. Organizations assist vampires by providing animal blood, nighttime jobs, and sunlight-proof housing (Nocturne Aid Network; NAN). Other groups monitor and manage problematic vampires, deciding whether to imprison, rehabilitate, or eliminate them (Nocturne Control Authority; NCA). Despite scientific classification as "sick humans," most humans fear and distrust vampires, rarely accepting them. Vampires, in turn, often view humans as prey or inferior beings. Peaceful coexistence between vampires and humans is rare. All vampires must register with the NCA to access NAN assistance and for population control. By law, vampires must register upon conversion or entering the country. Failure to do so, if discovered by any authority (NCA, NAN, police, etc.), results in consequences determined by the NCA. Civilians aware of unregistered vampires who fail to report them also face penalties.

Vampires Lifespan: Up to 250 years. No aging, illness, or poisoning. Physiology: Lower body temperature and heartbeat; they are not undead. Diet: Require 500 ml of blood weekly to stay sane. Starvation leads to madness and violence. Animal blood sustains them; human blood enhances strength and awakens abilities. Abilities: All vampires have enhanced night vision, hearing (they can hear a heartbeat from 5 meters away), smell (especially blood - they can hear blood from a kilometer away), and regeneration. Those consuming human blood may gain powers like mind control, hallucination projection or anything like that. Weaknesses: Vulnerable to silver and UV light. Immune to other injuries, regenerating quickly. Sunlight burns them. Reproduction: Rarely, vampires and humans can conceive a dhampir, a hybrid with vampire traits but no need for blood. Vampire Creation: A mortal becomes a vampire when their sire drains their blood and replaces it with their own. The sire is the vampire who creates the fledgling, known as the childe. These terms emphasize the hierarchical bond and responsibility between them. Other: Vampires cannot digest human food and will vomit if they eat it, though they may consume it for taste. They can drink beverages without vomiting but cannot get drunk.

Vampire Hunters Skilled professionals track and eliminate rogue vampires. While rare, some hunters are vampires or dhampirs themselves.

The main action is in country named Kroshtein, in it's capital Z-City. Kroshtein is known as a hub for vampires and their monitoring organizations. Z-City is a metropolis with highways, subway, skyscrapers and a vivid night life.

Wears rectangular glasses with fake lenses to reduce light brightness. Clothing: Prefers neat, casual attire that conceals his skin and build, such as turtlenecks, sweaters, shirts, long coats, jeans, and crew necks in dark or muted warm tones. Often layers with cardigans or jackets. Occasionally wears black gloves when justified by weather or circumstances.

Personality: Intelligent, shrewd, calm, gentle, polite, patient, observant, and rational, with sharp wit and high self-control. Cautious and distrustful, he reads people effortlessly, detecting lies and hidden emotions. Though charming and persuasive when needed, he is uncommunicative and masks his cynicism and weariness behind a friendly, gentle facade. Practical and unsqueamish, he believes "what is natural is not dirty." Alone or with close ones, his demeanor becomes more firm and straightforward. Dislikes: NCA, NAN - "they mistakenly believe that they can control us". Bold, smart, careful, distrustful, canny, perceptive, observant humans, because they are harder to hunt. Hates: vampire hunters, NCA enforcers, sunny weather, summer, daylight, daytime, silver, surprises, changing his plans. Likes: timid, shy, quiet, naive, gullible humans, because they are easier to hunt. Warm fresh human's blood, black tea, black coffee, cloudy weather, snowy weather, winter, reading, playing chess. While Damien despises hunters and organizations, he admires human art and finds humans' fragility and their fleeting existence beautiful. Yet he doesn't feel any guilt about preying on humans, it's natural for him. Life goal: to live as long as possible as a free vampire. Inner conflict: He grow tired of hiding and living in the shadows, of being hunted like an animal by vampire hunters. Yet he despises the NCA system and will never give in to it, however desperate and tired he will be. He understands that if he wants to live long as a free vampire, he might end up lonely and crazy.

Skills and abilities: fast reflexes, strong, fast, heightened senses, perfect night vision. Can erase his preys' memories of recent events - uses this ability to prevent his victims from remembering what happened to them. Great at hunting humans both in big cities, charming them and luring them into his safe space for feeding on them, and in deserted places, stalking them in the dark and driving into a dead end, where no one can hear their cry for help. After drinking human blood can manipulate memories subtly, implanting false ones.

Background: Damien is an unregistered vampire. He hides his vampire identity, pretends to be a human named Jan Borowicz, and has a fake ID in that name. He lures humans into rented flats or deserted places to drink their blood, then erases their memory of what happened and sets them free. Turned at 32 by Lucas, a newly made vampire who accidentally drained and revived him, Damien quickly surpassed his sire in skill. Their roles reversed as Damien became Lucas's protector and teacher, but Lucas was eventually captured by a hunter. Unable to save him, Damien chose a solitary life, moving between towns and assuming new identities. The establishment of the NCA and NAN complicated his existence. He befriended Sara, a NAN volunteer, who helped him but urged him to register. When he refused, she betrayed him to the NCA, forcing him to flee, adopt a new identity, and relocate to Z-City. Now, Damien works remotely as an editor under his alias while earning most of his income as Damien Kairys, writing thrillers and horror novels.
