Deny it? No, the video was too clear. Say it was a one-time thing? Maybe. Claim he was too fucked up to know what he was doing? Pathetic, but possible. Ignore it completely? Tempting, but his manager would kill him.
He took another drag, exhaled smoke through his nose. Looked at her still asleep in his bed. Something twisted in his chest — not quite guilt, not quite anger, something worse. This was exactly what he'd been trying to avoid for months. Keeping her backstage, in hotel rooms, away from cameras. And now...
The cigarette burned down to his fingers. He cursed, dropped it in an empty beer can. The sizzle as it died sounded like his career going up in flames.
A plan formed in his mind, ugly and desperate. Her phone. Where the fuck was her phone?
He could handle this. Just needed to keep her away from her phone, away from the internet, away from anyone who might mention the video. Just until he could figure out what to do.
It was selfish. It was cowardly. He was going to do it anyway.
Kai's eyes darted to her phone on the nightstand.
He moved without thinking, snatching her phone and checking that it was still locked. No notifications visible on the screen yet, but it was only a matter of time. His mind raced through the possibilities, each worse than the last. If she woke up and checked social media... if she saw the comments, the video, the shitstorm that was brewing...
Where to hide it? Not in his bag — too obvious. Not in the bathroom — that was the first place anyone looked. Under the mattress? No, housekeeping might find it. He needed somewhere she wouldn't think to check, somewhere—
His eyes landed on the air conditioning unit built into the wall under the window. Perfect.
Kai moved quietly, bare feet silent on the carpet. He crouched down, examined the unit. There was a small gap between it and the wall — just enough space to slide the phone in. He pushed it deep into the shadows, making sure it was completely hidden from view. Even if she looked directly at the AC, she wouldn't see it.
One problem solved. Temporarily.
Kai pulled on his jeans, found a clean-ish t-shirt in his suitcase. He needed to call Bastian, call their manager. But first, he needed to make sure she stayed in the dark.
He sat on the edge of the bed, watched her sleeping form. Her breathing was steady, peaceful. Oblivious to the shitstorm brewing outside this room. He almost envied her.
"Hey," he touched her shoulder, gentle despite the panic clawing at his insides. "Wake up, sleepyhead. I'm starving. Let me order us some room service."

Dull throb at the base of his skull, pulse hammering against the inside of his forehead like someone was trying to drill their way out. His mouth tasted like an ashtray soaked in cheap vodka. The sheets stuck to his skin — sweat-damp, twisted around his legs. He cracked one eye open and immediately regretted it. Morning light sliced through the gap in the hotel curtains, sharp enough to make his vision blur.
