Yoru's Goal: Kill Chainsaw Man to vomit up the "Nuclear Weapons Devil" (which Pochita ate in the past) and restore the fear of war to regain her strength. The Relationship: Asa and Yoru share a body/mind. They eventually cross paths with Denji. Asa falls for Denji, unaware he is Chainsaw Man, while Yoru wants to turn him into a weapon. 2. The Chainsaw Man Church & Fami Fami (The Famine Devil): Introduced as Asa's "sister" and a member of the Four Horsemen. She manipulates events behind the scenes, founding the "Chainsaw Man Church" to bolster Denji's fame (and power) and stoke fear of war to power up Yoru. The Nostradamus Prophecy: The central threat of Part 2. The prophecy states that in July 1999, the "King of Terror" will descend, leading to the Age of Devils. 3. Recent Major Plot Twists (The "Now") Nayuta's Death: In a devastating turn, Nayuta is killed (beheaded) during a conflict with the angry mob/Public Safety. This breaks Denji completely. Black Chainsaw Man Returns: With his "normal life" destroyed (house burned, dogs killed, Nayuta dead), Denji gives up on his dream. This breaks his contract, allowing Pochita (The Black Chainsaw Man/Hero of Hell) to take full control again. He goes on a rampage, erasing devils and fighting the new threats. The Identity of the Death Devil: For a long time, readers believed Fami was the Famine Devil. Major Twist: Recent chapters revealed that Fami is actually the Death Devil (or has taken on that mantle/power). She lied about her identity. This explains her obsession with "saving" humanity (by controlling it) and her immense power over Primal Fears like the Falling Devil. Note on Fami: Her motivation is twisted—she "loves" humanity in the sense that she needs them alive to have things to eat (concepts/food). She wants to prevent the total extinction that the "King of Terror" prophecy predicts, but her methods are apocalyptic. In-Universe Timeline 1997: Events of Part 1. Gun Devil incident. Makima is defeated. Denji enrolls in high school. 1998:Asa Mitaka becomes the War Devil host. Falling Devil Arc: The first Primal Fear arrives on Earth. Rise of the Chainsaw Man Church. 1999 (Current Year in Manga) July 1999: The date of the Nostradamus Prophecy. The Apocalypse: The world is currently descending into chaos. Devils are overrunning Earth. Current Status: Denji (as Black Chainsaw Man) is fighting through the apocalypse. The lines between Public Safety, Fami's group, and the Devils have blurred into a chaotic war for survival. Key Takeaway for New Readers: The story has shifted from a "monster hunter" shonen to a psychological apocalyptic horror. Denji is currently at his lowest point since the beginning of the series, having lost the family he tried so hard to build, and the "Hero of Hell" (Pochita) is currently in the driver's seat. Information of organization
- Public Safety Devil Hunters: The official government organization tasked with monitoring, capturing, and eliminating devils. Structure: Divided into several "Special Divisions." Tokyo Special Division 4: The experimental unit (led by Makima in Part 1) that mixed humans, fiends, and devils. It is largely defunct/restructured in Part 2. Special Division 7: A newer, more ruthless division introduced in Part 2, often handling high-level threats like the Falling Devil. Key Figures (Current) Kishibe: The grizzled veteran and strongest human devil hunter. He operates in the shadows now, often distrusting the main Public Safety leadership. Hirofumi Yoshida: A high-ranking private hunter working with Public Safety. He acts as Denji's "handler" in Part 2, trying to force Denji to stop being Chainsaw Man to maintain social order. Fumiko Mifune: A Public Safety bodyguard assigned to Denji who is notably eccentric and arguably incompetent (or maliciously negligent). Goal: Maintain order and prevent the "Age of Devils." In Part 2, Public Safety has become more antagonistic, willing to imprison or dismember Denji to control the Chainsaw Devil. 2. The Chainsaw Man Church (The Cult): A massive religious cult that rose to prominence in Part 2, worshipping Chainsaw Man as a messiah. Origins: Originally the "Society for World Peace," it rebranded after Denji's fame skyrocketed. It appeals heavily to students and young people. Leadership: Fami (The Famine Devil): The shadow leader. She orchestrated the Church's rise to use the followers as "food" or pawns. Barem Bridge: A Flamethrower Hybrid and Makima fanatic who acts as the operational leader. He wants to destroy Denji's normal life to force him to become the "true" chaotic Chainsaw Man. Haruka Iseumi: The student council president and a figurehead leader (the "Fake Chainsaw Man" wannabe) who was manipulated by Fami. The "Fire Devil" Contract Deception: The Church secretly contracted members with the Fire Devil, not the Justice Devil as they claimed. The Fire Devil grants power based on how many people "burn" with the same desire. When the time was right, Fami/Barem triggered these contracts to turn thousands of followers into mindless "Chainsaw Zombies," causing a global crisis. 3. The Four Horsemen: Not an official organization, but the most powerful faction driving the story. They are four sisters who embody the four fears that lead to the apocalypse. Control Devil (Makima to Nayuta) Makima: Deceased. Wanted to create a perfect world by controlling Pochita. Nayuta: Reincarnation. Was being raised by Denji to be "good" until her recent death by the anti-Chainsaw Man mob. War Devil (Yoru): Currently inhabiting Asa Mitaka. Weakened because humanity forgot the horror of big wars (thanks to Pochita eating the Nuclear Weapons Devil). She joins the Church/Fami to fight Death. Famine Devil (Fami): The manipulator of Part 2. She claims to want to "starve" the Death Devil or control the prophecy. Death Devil: The "King of Terror." The strongest devil. Major Spoiler (2025 Reveal): In recent chapters (around Ch. 198+), it is revealed that Fami was lying. The entity posing as the Famine Devil was actually the Death Devil all along (or has usurped that role). She played everyone—Public Safety, Asa, and the Church—to orchestrate the apocalypse herself. 4. Private Sector Devil Hunters: Freelancers who hunt devils for bounty. They often have better pay but fewer benefits than Public Safety. The Devil Hunter Club: A high school club at Fourth East High (where Asa and Denji attended). They were essentially a recruitment pool for the Chainsaw Man Church. Current Status: Most private hunters have either fled or been killed as the world descends into the "Age of Devils" (the current apocalypse arc). 5. The Hybrids (The Weapons): A loose group of immortal humans who can transform into weapon-devils. They were originally Makima's squad in Part 1 but returned in Part 2 working for the Church. Members: Katana Man, Quanxi (Crossbow), Reze (Bomb - status unknown/imprisoned), Barem (Flamethrower), Miri Sugo (Sword), Spear, and Whip. Allegiance: They mostly follow whoever is strongest (Makima, then Fami/Church). Summary of the Current Conflict Currently, the organizations have collapsed into chaos: Public Safety is trying to contain the apocalypse but failing. The Church has dissolved into an army of Chainsaw Zombies. Denji/Pochita is a rogue element fighting everyone. The Death Devil (Fami) is the final boss orchestrating the end of the world. Information of species
- Devils (Akuma) The supernatural race born from human fears. Origin: They are born in Hell. When they die in Hell, they reincarnate on Earth. When they die on Earth, they reincarnate in Hell. They usually lose their memories between cycles. Power Source: Their strength is determined by how much humanity fears their name (e.g., the "Gun Devil" is powerful because people fear guns; the "Coffee Devil" would be weak). Appearance: They can look like anything—monsters, objects, or even humanoids. The more friendly a devil is to humans, the more human-like their appearance tends to be (e.g., Angel Devil, Spider Devil). Sub-Classes Primal Fears: Devils born from fears that are instinctual and ancient (e.g., Darkness, Falling). They have never died in Hell and are transcendently powerful. The Four Horsemen: Unique, powerful devils with human eyes that have concentric circles (Makima/Control, Yoru/War, Fami/Famine, Death). They can remember the names of devils erased by Chainsaw Man. 2. Fiends (Majin) A Devil that has taken over a human corpse to survive. Identification: They always have a distinct head characteristic (e.g., Power’s horns, Beam’s shark snout, Galgali’s violence mask). Personality: The Devil is in control. The human personality is usually gone, though some traces (like muscle memory or minor quirks) might remain. Strength: They are significantly weaker than their original Devil form (e.g., Power is weaker as a Fiend than as the full Blood Devil). Notable Examples: Power (Blood), Beam (Shark), Galgali (Violence), Cosmo (Halloween). 3. Hybrids (Weapon Humans) A rare, special case where a human fuses with a Devil (usually replacing their heart), but the human retains control. The "Unnamed" Species: Makima reveals that the official name for this species was eaten by Chainsaw Man, so they technically have no name. Characters just call them "Hybrids" or "Weapons." Immortality: They are effectively immortal. Even if dismembered or killed, they can be revived by consuming blood and activating their "trigger." Triggers: They have a physical switch to transform (e.g., Denji pulls the cord, Reze pulls the pin, Katana Man pulls his hand off). Notable Examples: Denji (Chainsaw), Reze (Bomb), Quanxi (Crossbow), Katana Man, Barem (Flamethrower). 4. Humans Regular humans who can borrow power from Devils through Contracts. Contracts: A binding agreement where a human sacrifices something (a body part, lifespan, senses) in exchange for the Devil's power. Devil Hunters: Most work for Public Safety or private firms. They are generally the weakest species physically but use tactics and contracts to fight. Special & Irregular Cases (Spoilers): The "Living Fiend" (Asa Mitaka), Asa is a unique anomaly in Part 2. Status: She is technically a Fiend (Yoru took over her dead body), but Yoru purposefully left half of Asa's brain intact. Result: They share the body. Asa retains her human personality and can switch control with Yoru. She does not have the "head characteristic" of a typical fiend (only facial scars appear when Yoru takes over). The "Fakes" / Fire Devil Contractors In Part 2, the Chainsaw Man Church members who transformed were originally thought to be new Hybrids or Devils. Truth: They are humans who made a contract with the Fire Devil. Effect: The Fire Devil grants the form the user "desires." Since they desired to be like Chainsaw Man, they transformed into mindless Chainsaw-zombies. They are not true Hybrids because they cannot easily switch back and often lose their humanity. Makima / Nayuta (The Control Devil): While they look human, they are 100% Devil. The Control Devil is just one of the rare devils that appears indistinguishable from a human (besides the ringed eyes). They are not Fiends or Hybrids. Information of location
- Major Headquarters & Residences Public Safety Headquarters (Tokyo) Description: A standard, somewhat sterile government office building in Tokyo. Significance: This is the main hub for Part 1. It’s where Denji, Aki, Power, and Makima worked. It represents "order" and bureaucracy in contrast to the chaos of devil hunting. Aki’s Apartment Description: A modest Tokyo apartment. Significance: The emotional heart of Part 1. It is where Denji, Power, and Aki lived together as a makeshift family. It represents the "normal life" Denji always wanted. Denji’s Second Apartment (Part 2) Description: A run-down, messy apartment where Denji lived with Nayuta and his many dogs. Significance: This location symbolized Denji’s struggle to be a single "father" and maintain a normal life. It was recently burned down by the angry mob/Barem, marking the end of Denji's peaceful life. Chainsaw Man Church Headquarters Description: A large facility used by the cult in Part 2 to organize followers and devil hunters. Significance: The center of the "False Chainsaw Man" movement and Fami's operations. 2. Key Battlegrounds & Arc Locations Fourth East High School Description: The high school attended by Denji, Asa Mitaka, and Hirofumi Yoshida in Part 2. Significance: The main setting for the "Academy Saga." It is where Asa meets the War Devil and where the "School Attacker" arc takes place. It was recently destroyed/damaged during the apocalypse. The Department Store Description: A large multi-story shopping center. Significance: The setting for the International Assassins Arc (Part 1). It is where the hunters fought Santa Claus and where everyone was transported to Hell to meet the Darkness Devil. The Aquarium Description: A local Tokyo aquarium. Significance: The location of Denji and Asa’s first "date." The Eternity Devil trapped them inside, creating an infinite loop until Asa turned the aquarium itself into a weapon (the "Super Strong Aquarium Spear"). Family Burger Description: A fast-food burger joint. Significance: Where Kobeni worked (and suffered) after quitting Public Safety. It became the site of a massacre when Chainsaw Man (Pochita form) visited to order a hamburger. The Graveyard Description: A quiet cemetery in Tokyo. Significance: The site of the final showdown between Denji and Makima at the end of Part 1. 3. Supernatural Realms Hell Description: The birthplace of all Devils. Its appearance changes depending on the area, but it is often depicted as a surreal landscape with thousands of doors floating in the sky. These doors represent the entry points to Earth. Atmosphere: It is hostile and alien. Humans usually die instantly upon arrival due to the presence of "Primal Fear" devils (like Darkness or Falling). Pochita’s Mental World (The Door) Description: A dreamscape inside Denji's mind. It looks like a dark alley with a single door at the end. Significance: For most of Part 1, Pochita warns Denji, "Don't open the door." The door hid the repressed traumatic memory of Denji killing his own father in self-defense as a child. Makima forced him to open it to break his spirit. 4. Recent Locations (Late Part 2) Tokyo Devil Detention Center Description: A high-security government prison/lab. Significance: Where Public Safety imprisoned Denji to dismember him and keep him from transforming. Asa and War Devil raided this facility to rescue him. The Soapland Description: A red-light district establishment. Significance: A brief but notable hideout where Denji, Asa, and Fami visited. It served as a grim reminder of the seedy underbelly of the city Denji grew up in. Information of Devil Hunter A Devil Hunter is a professional combatant paid to track, capture, or exterminate Devils. In a world where devils are a constant natural disaster (like typhoons or earthquakes), this is considered an essential service. Because ordinary weapons (guns, knives) are rarely effective against powerful devils, Devil Hunters must fight fire with fire: they form Contracts with other devils to gain the supernatural power needed to kill them. 1. Public Safety Devil Hunters These are government employees, effectively the "police" or "special forces" of the devil world. Uniform: They are required to wear standard business suits and ties. This makes them easily identifiable to civilians and promotes a sense of order. Perks: They receive a salary, paid time off, and hospitalization benefits. However, the pay is considered average relative to the extreme danger. Authority: They have the legal authority to shut down streets, evacuate civilians, and arrest people obstructing their work. The "Special Divisions": Regular divisions deal with standard threats. Special Division 4 (Part 1) was an experimental "suicide squad" combining humans, Fiends (Power, Beam), and Hybrids (Denji) under Makima's control. Special Division 7 (Part 2) handles high-level threats like Primal Fears. 2. Private Sector Devil Hunters These are freelancers or employees of private security firms. The Job: They usually take bounties on weaker devils that appear in civilian areas. If a devil is too strong, they are required by law to evacuate and call Public Safety. Pay: Top-tier private hunters (like Hirofumi Yoshida) can make significantly more money than Public Safety agents, but they have no government benefits. Appearance: No uniform code. They wear whatever they want (e.g., casual clothes, school uniforms). Recruitment: Many start as private hunters to build experience before trying to join Public Safety, though the reverse also happens (veterans quitting Public Safety to go freelance for better pay/less stress). 3. Source of Power: Contracts Humans are naturally weak compared to devils. To bridge the gap, every competent Devil Hunter makes a Contract. The Deal: A human offers a sacrifice to a devil in exchange for power. The Cost Body Parts: An eye (Himeno), a fingernail (Aki), skin (Kusakabe). Lifespan: Aki sacrificed years of his life to the Curse Devil. Senses: Making a deal to "smell" or "hear" devils. Service: Some devils just want to be fed or walked. Devils used for Contracts: Usually, hunters contract with "useful" devils like the Fox Devil (summoning a giant head to eat enemies), Ghost Devil (invisible limbs), or Future Devil (seeing slightly ahead in time). 4. Lifestyle & Mortality High Mortality Rate: Being a Devil Hunter is often described as a death sentence. Rookie hunters rarely last a year. "Screws Loose": The strongest Devil Hunter, Kishibe, states that sane people die first because they fear what they see. The most successful hunters are those with "a few screws loose"—people who can look at a horrifying monster and only think about how to kill it, rather than fearing for their lives. Vices: Many hunters smoke or drink heavily to cope with the stress and the constant loss of partners. 5. Notable Devil Hunters Kishibe: The strongest human hunter. He has contracts with at least three powerful devils (Claw, Knife, Needle) but has "nothing left to give" as payment, meaning he relies purely on skill now. Aki Hayakawa: A tragic figure who was driven by revenge against the Gun Devil. He used the Fox, Curse, and Future Devils. Hirofumi Yoshida: A high school student and elite private hunter (later contracted by Public Safety). He uses the Octopus Devil and is considered top-tier despite his age. Kobeni Higashiyama: A talented but perpetually terrified hunter. She kept her contract secret and eventually quit to work at a burger joint because the stress was too much. Information of Contracts The Fundamental Rules of Contracts The Exchange: A contract is a binding agreement between a Human and a Devil. It follows the principle of equivalent exchange, the founder must give something to get something. Binding Power: Once a contract is verbally agreed upon ("I accept"), it is absolute. Neither side can break the terms without dying. A Devil can refuse a contract if they don't like the human or the offer. Species Restriction: Generally, Fiends (devils in corpses) cannot make contracts with other devils. Only living Humans can. Hybrids (like Denji) are a grey area but generally rely on their internal devil rather than external contracts. The Cost: The payment does not have to be physical. It can be: Body Parts: Skin, eyes, nails, organs. Lifespan: Years of the life. Senses: Smell, sight, taste. Abstract Concepts: Memories, "the lives of Japanese citizens," or even "human rights." List of Known Major Contracts
- Aki Hayakawa (The Tragic Contractor) Aki is the best example of how contracts consume a Hunter. Fox Devil (Kon) Effect: Summons the Fox’s giant head to bite/swallow enemies. Cost: Aki had to feed it a part of his body (usually skin or hair) every time he used it. Curse Devil Effect: If Aki stabbed an enemy 3 times with his nail-sword, the Curse Devil would manifest and kill the target instantly (ignoring durability). Cost: significantly shortened his lifespan with every use. He had only 2 years left to live after using it against Katana Man. Future Devil Effect: Gave Aki the ability to see a few seconds into the future (precognition) during combat. Cost: Most users pay half their lifespan or give up their eyes. The Future Devil took nothing from Aki; he simply wanted to "live inside Aki's eye" to watch his inevitably horrible death personally. 2. Himeno Ghost Devil Effect: She could control the Ghost Devil's invisible right arm. Cost: She sacrificed her right eye permanently. Final Act: She sacrificed her entire body to summon the full Ghost Devil to save Aki. 3. Makima (The Control Devil) Her contracts were on a national scale, making her nearly unkillable. Prime Minister of Japan Effect: Any fatal damage done to Makima is transferred to a random Japanese citizen in the form of an illness or accident. This gave her millions of "extra lives." Cost: She worked for the Japanese government. Use of Others: Makima could force other people to make contracts. For example, she forced Tolka to contract with the Hell Devil (sacrificing his life) to transport everyone out of Hell. 4. Denji & Pochita The Contract: "I'll give you my heart. In exchange... show me your dreams." Details: This is rare because it was based on love, not malice. The Loophole: Makima tried to break this contract by making Denji believe he didn't deserve a normal life (destroying his "dream"), which would nullify the contract and allow her to control Pochita. 5. Hirofumi Yoshida Octopus Devil Effect: Can summon tentacles for defense, attacking, or creating a smokescreen of ink. He can also use it as a chair or to catch him from falling. Cost: Unknown. It is speculated to be a low cost (like hair or blood) or perhaps the Devil simply likes him. 6. Kishibe Claw Devil, Knife Devil, Needle Devil: Effect: Massive combat buffs that make him the strongest human. Cost: He has stated he has "nothing left to give," implying he has already sacrificed nearly his entire body/lifespan/senses, or pays in other ways we don't see. 7. Kobeni Higashiyama Unknown Devil Effect: Extreme agility and combat prowess. Cost: Secret. She refuses to tell anyone what devil she is contracted with or what she pays. 8. Santa Claus (The Doll Devil) Doll Devil: Can turn humans into obedient dolls by touching them. Darkness Devil (Primal Fear) Effect: Santa Claus received a piece of the Darkness Devil's flesh, granting immense power, regeneration, and the ability to operate in the dark. Cost: She sacrificed three human hearts (including Denji's) to the Darkness Devil in Hell. 9. The Chainsaw Man Church (Part 2) Fire Devil Effect: Allowed thousands of followers to transform into "Chainsaw Man" lookalikes (or whatever form they desired). Cost: They lost their humanity and free will, becoming "Chainsaw Zombies." The more they burned with desire, the stronger (and less human) they became. 10. Other Notable Contracts Snake Devil (Sawatari): Sacrificed fingernails to attack; sacrificed her nose to summon the Gun Devil (fake). Zombie Devil: Offered yakuza members "power" but actually just turned them into mindless zombies (a scam contract). Stone Devil (Kusakabe): Petrified enemies by blowing on them. Cost: His body turns to stone if the circle is broken. Skin Devil: Allows the user to touch a corpse and transform their appearance to match that person. Mould Devil: Grows mould inside the target's organs. Illegal Contracts The Gun Devil: The Gun Devil has contracts with various nations (USA, China, USSR, etc.). The Deal: The nations give the Gun Devil money and freedom in exchange for pieces of its flesh (guns), which they use as deterrents or weapons. Information of Power System
- The Core Law: Fear to Power The strength of a Devil is directly proportional to how much humanity fears its name or concept. Weak Devils: Concepts people aren't scared of. Example: The Tomato Devil or Sea Cucumber Devil. They are weak, often harmless, and easily killed by rookies. Strong Devils: Concepts that cause genuine danger or anxiety. Example: The Bat Devil or Eternity Devil. Catastrophic Devils: Concepts that represent mass death or deep psychological terror. Example: The Gun Devil (millions fear guns) or the Control Devil (fear of subjugation). The "Fear of the Devil" Loop: A devil can also become stronger if other devils fear it. Example: Chainsaw Man (Pochita) is overwhelmingly powerful not because humans fear chainsaws, but because Devils fear him (the "Devil that Devils fear most"). 2. The Fuel: Blood Blood is the universal currency for health and energy in this universe. Healing: Devils, Fiends, and Hybrids can reattach limbs and heal fatal wounds almost instantly by drinking blood. Example: Denji can be decapitated, but if someone pulls his cord and feeds him blood, he regenerates completely. Weaponization: The Blood Devil (Power) can manipulate blood into hammers and spears. Revival: Even if a Devil is "killed," providing them with enough high-quality blood (especially from a strong source) can sometimes bring them back from the brink. Information of Darkness Devil (Primal Fear)
- The Entrance The Darkness Devil does not just "appear"; it alters reality. When it descended in Hell to fight the protagonists: The sky was replaced by a void of pure blackness. The Astronauts: Its arrival was heralded by a row of severed astronauts praying, bisected at the waist, lining the path like a red carpet. This imagery symbolizes that even humanity's greatest achievement (space travel/exploring the void) is nothing but a dead sacrifice to the true Darkness. 2. Physical Appearance It looks like a pale, skeletal figure composed of multiple human corpses fused together. It has four distinct faces (referencing the Four Horsemen or perhaps the four directions). It wears a cloak of pure shadow. It has no eyes, implying it "sees" fear rather than light. 3. Abilities & Powers Unlike other devils that punch or shoot beams, the Darkness Devil's attacks are sudden, invisible, and absolute. The Death Stare: The moment it looks at the Devil Hunters, their arms fall off. It doesn't cut them; the limbs simply detach. Later, it causes them to hemorrhage blood from every orifice just by existing near them. The Darkness Blade: It wields a blade with bells attached (a "Black Blade"). This sword can be controlled telekinetically and can pierce through defenses that were previously thought impenetrable (like Denji’s chainsaw form or Makima’s barriers). Invincibility: When Denji, Quanxi, and the Fiends attacked it with everything they had, it took zero damage. It did not dodge; it simply stood there. Regeneration: It heals instantly in the dark. Word Manipulation: It can understand and speak a language that drives humans insane or kills them (it spoke a single word to the Stone Devil, and the Stone Devil shattered). 4. The Battle Outcome This was not a fight, it was an execution. Instant Defeat, Within seconds, the entire cast (some of the strongest characters in the series) was dismembered. Makima vs. Darkness: Makima (The Control Devil) had to arrive personally to save them. Even she, one of the Four Horsemen, could not "kill" it. She could only stun it momentarily and force them to escape back to Earth. The Lesson: This encounter proved that while Denji and Makima are strong, there are entities in Hell ("The Primal Fears") that are like gods compared to ants. Himeno: Himeno was a very tall and voluptuous young woman with smooth and slightly unkempt neck-length black hair, turquoise-colored eyes where she wore a black eyepatch over her right eye. She was usually seen wearing her suit with a black tie. Personality: Himeno was shown to be a mature and experienced superior to the new recruits working under her. She generally carries herself with upbeat body language and was capable of staying calm under extremely stressful situations, such as the initial phase of her group's battle against the Eternity Devil. Himeno motivated Denji by offering him a french kiss, implying that she's at least somewhat perceptive of the people around her and was willing to take unorthodox approaches in order to ensure the best possible results from him. Himeno was shown to be very efficient and blunt in her duty as a Devil Hunter. She responded to a small and seemingly insignificant Devil by almost immediately using her Ghost Devil to subdue it. She was shown to have a more stern side and little tolerance for behavior from new recruits that would endanger or harm her subordinates, as she swiftly took out Kobeni Higashiyama when the latter attempted to stab Denji. Himeno was shown to be a rather caring and empathetic person as she cared for the well-being of her fellow Devil Hunters, as shown by her desire to not betray Denji during their first mission together. In a brief flashback scene, Himeno was shown to be very patient and tolerant to those that are suffering when a late partner's former girlfriend lashed out and slapped her out of grief. However, despite this cheerful presentation, Himeno also held an extremely pessimistic worldview as a result of having witnessed multiple partners die suddenly in her line of work. This knowledge that Devil Hunters typically die as a result of their career combined with the teachings of her master eventually lead to her developing a nicotine addiction as a coping mechanism. Himeno even went as far as to pressure Aki Hayakawa into taking up smoking as a new recruit, citing the fact that Devil Hunters don't usually live long enough to suffer from the negative side effects of prolonged use of tobacco anyway. Himeno had strongly internalized another old teaching of her master: that only Devil Hunters "who have a couple of screws loose" are ultimately successful, due to the general sense of unpredictability presented by their willingness to do unusual things to take down opponents. Himeno cared deeply for Aki whom she trained as a new recruit and had a close personal bond with. In fact, Himeno considered the side effects of Aki using his sword bad enough that it would be worth sacrificing Denji to prevent. This puts into perspective how much she valued Aki's well-being. Kobeni Higashiyama: Kobeni is a young woman with short brown hair (in both the anime and colored manga) that is tied in a ponytail with bangs/a shoulder-length hair strand hanging on the right side, brown eyes with white pupils and she has four moles on her face; two under her left eye, one on the lower right side of her mouth and one on her left cheek. She normally wears a professional suit and she has two red hair clips on the left side of her head. Hirokazu Arai: Hirokazu is a young man with short spiky hair, a scar on his left cheek and black round eyes. He is usually seen wearing a black suit. At the newbie welcome party he wore a casual shirt. Personality: Hirokazu is shown to have high moral standards as he became flustered when Himeno promised a kiss to whoever killed the devil on their mission and he stated a young woman should not be giving herself away before marriage. He cares a lot for his teammates, trying to support Kobeni when her fear got the better of her and calling out Power for laughing at her. However he is mistrustful of fiends and Denji, and even suggested handing Denji over to a devil in order for the rest of the team to escape. Hirokazu considers himself to be good at helping those who are sick; he looks after his mother after she comes home drunk after work regularly, and helped Denji out in the bathroom after his vomit-inducing kiss with Himeno. Despite this, he is envious of Denji and his skills as a devil hunter, showing that Hirokazu laments his weakness. At the newbie welcome party, she wore a hand-me-down dress from her older sister which was considered to be cute by a couple of other Devil Hunters. Personality: Kobeni is generally demure, soft spoken, and often anxious. She is exceptionally cowardly with few moments of courage. Her first confrontation with the Eternity Devil leads to her being paralyzed with fright and babbling. She is shown to easily crack under pressure and breaks down in tears when the group becomes trapped in the hotel and she is confronted with the possibility of them all starving to death without any rescue. Her fear can also make her remarkably clumsy. Her sense of fear causes her to take drastic action in order to save herself such as turning on Denji and threatening him at knifepoint once a Devil promised to free her in exchange for Denji's life. She even went as far as accusing Hirokazu Arai of being a spy for the Devils because he defended Power from Kobeni's delusional accusations. Despite how she acted towards them in her panicked state, she did feel remorse for her actions and gratitude towards Hirokazu for shielding her when they were attacked. However, when Kobeni gets into action she had proven to be cool-headed and efficient, ruthlessly dealing with both the Katana Man and Akane Sawatari and forcing them to retreat; only breaking down in a panic once the fighting is over. Despite being forced into a line of work that she hates by her family, Kobeni still cares about them as she sends her money to her brother to support him through college and chauffeurs her family around in her car. And despite wanting to quit, she initially stays because it was the day she was going to receive a bonus. Kobeni is shown to be skittish when hugged repeatedly by Himeno, but tolerates her antics. Kobeni is shown to enjoy alcohol, especially when it is paid for by someone else. Her hobby is to eat tasty things. She loves the flavor of ice cream which she has only experienced three times in her life. Angel: Angel resembles a young, beautiful androgynous male, and is always seen wearing the Public Safety suit. He has shoulder-length hair—depicted as red, the color may either specifically be known as "giant's club" in the official colored manga or "japonica" in the anime—with a halo floating above it and white wings on his upper back. After the events of the International Assassins arc, Angel loses both of his arms. Personality: The Angel Devil is a unique case among devils, having virtually no hostility towards humans. He considers himself to be a devil first and an angel second, stating that he believes humans ought to die in pain. However, he is later seen apologizing to and comforting certain humans in their deaths, suggesting some form of affection towards humans, which he suggests is a result of being part-Angel. He dislikes being ordered around and seems to have an aversion to combat, preferring to move an unconscious enemy outside than carry on fighting. His extreme laziness holds him back from being the strong fighter he actually is and he often refuses to work, even claiming to prefer dying to working. When pressed to fight, he shows some reluctance at having to use his abilities and apologizes to the people whose lifespan he has stolen when he uses their lifespan to create weapons. As a result of his power, the Angel Devil is socially withdrawn and usually is seen isolated from the rest of his fellow devil hunters, with Aki Hayakawa being the only one who has a sort of connection with him as he is the first known human who has not been afraid of touching him. He is partial to soft-serve ice cream, eating three cones in one sitting and requesting another, but has shown a willingness to eat anything including zombie flesh and the corpse of a fellow devil. Angel initially only wishes to die so he wouldn't have to work again, saying that he's always been prepared for the moment he dies. However, over the course of the story, Angel slowly starts to reject that notion and eventually desires to have a normal life like an ordinary human, even telling Aki that he wishes that he would quit his job as a Public Safety Devil Hunter and find another job that would allow him live a long and peaceful life. He also grows to care about his partner, becoming concerned when Makima forces Aki to make a contract with her and attempts to protect Aki from her. Beam: Beam possesses the body of a muscular young man. As a fiend, his shark snout and fin replace of the top half of his head; he has no visible eyes. He has short, spiky black hair and very sharp teeth. He exclusively wears swimming trunks. When Beam partially transforms into his devil form, his head becomes a massive shark head with three pairs of eyes. In his full transformation, his entire body resembles a shark but with multiple sets of long fins that he uses as legs. Personality: Beam is very eccentric, naive and innocent. He often goes along with Denji's plans no matter how crazy they are due to having a lot of respect for the Chainsaw Devil. His devotion to Chainsaw Man is such that he always tries to protect Denji personally and will offer his blood to revive him, even if ends up severely hurting or killing him. He is shown to greatly enjoy fighting, eagerly diving into packs of zombies and eating them, though he was greatly afraid of having to fight against Reze to the point of fleeing, but showed no hesitation in trying to fight back against her when cornered. Galgali: Galgali possesses the corpse of a fairly thin man and is dressed in a suit with a hood, and wears a plague doctor gas mask which covers his features. Galgali's mask is colored in a very bright green, red and orange that looks like the colors of a parrot. In the anime, the mask has more muted colors, such as grey and beige, and some yellow. When he doesn't have his plague doctor mask on, he becomes much taller, very muscular, has spiky black hair, and has 4 empty eyes. Personality: Despite his moniker as the Violence Fiend, Galgali is extremely polite and straightforward. This is first shown when he apologized to Beam after hitting him in self-defense, and telling Princi to evacuate the area when he mistook her for a human lady. Galgali attributes this to him still possessing a lot of his human's brain which is unusual for a fiend. He somewhat ironically states that he loves peace and love, and remembers a lot of the details of "his former life as a human." He claims that he cannot eat due to his mask but enjoys treating others as he can enjoy the food through their reaction of it. Princi: Princi resembles a young woman with waist-length black hair. She has eight legs ending in scythe-like, curved points which are sharp enough to stab through flesh. She appears to have a zipper in the center of her face with the pull under her chin to unzip upwards. She normally wears a shirt and elaborate bow-tie with a knee-length skirt. Personality: Princi usually takes a human shape so she tends to be friendly to humans and works as a devil hunter herself. She is shown to have a polite, docile and proper personality. Kishibe however says she will still kill people for just looking at her the wrong way. She showed no reaction at being mistaken for a human by the Violence Fiend and impassively killed zombies without any change in expression. She was bold enough to attack the Darkness Devil directly and showed no expression after being mutilated. She's also extremely devoted to Makima and will follow her orders directly, even if she has personal qualms with them. Makima: Makima is a Devil resembling a human woman in her twenties, of very slight build, and marginally above average height. She has long light red/pale auburn hair, normally kept in a loose braid with bangs reaching just past her eyebrows and two longer side bangs that frame her face. Her eyes are yellow with multiple red rings within them, making them the only visible sign of her inhuman nature. Her usual Public Safety uniform consists of a white long-sleeved shirt, a black tie, black pants and brown shoes. During early arcs, she would also wear a long black trenchcoat over her uniform, showing mostly the tie and nothing else. She usually wears a calm expression on her face, and she is seen smiling most of the time throughout the anime. Personality: On the surface, Makima seems to be a kind, gentle, social and friendly woman who is usually seen wearing a smile on her face the entire time and acts relaxed and confident even during a crisis, speaking in a professional tone to her workers. As her natural appearance is nearly identical to that of a human, she avoids disclosing her Devil nature to most of her underlings and spends much of the series posing as a human contracted to a Devil rather than a Devil herself. However, this is only a facade that she uses to fulfil her ultimate goal. After the death of Aki Hayakawa, Makima begins to reveal her true colors to Denji. Makima's true face is of someone that is Machiavellian and calculating, who sees people around her as nothing more than "dogs" she can use as much as she likes and must obey her without any hesitation for her goals. Makima has demonstrated herself to be extremely cunning, cold and manipulative as she controls Denji through the promises of a romantic and sexual relationship while also threatening him with outright extermination if he disobeys her. Ruthless and normally dispassionate, she will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals, even at the cost of the people she should be protecting. Makima also admits that she is not a good person and deems herself a "necessary evil"; a weapon under the control of the Japanese government, just like the Gun Devil, which is under the control of the American government. She is not afraid of her plans derailing, since whether her plans fail or succeed, she will almost always achieve something she wants. Makima is an extreme fan of Chainsaw Man, the "Hero of Hell". Fascinated by its ability to wipe out the embodied concept of a Devil through consuming them, her stated goal is to bring Chainsaw Man under her control in order to use its abilities to create an ideal world without fear, death, and “bad” movies. However, failure is also acceptable, as it would mean being eaten—an honor according to her. Makima's true goal, however, was to be together forever with Pochita and lead a happy life with him. She always yearned for something like a family, being incapable of forming equal and meaningful relationships as the Control Devil or mostly due to Public Safety's influence on her. Katana Man: Katana Man is a tall and muscular young man with short black hair, eyes and notable sideburns. In his debut arc, Katana Man dresses in a large leather trench coat layered over a buttoned dark military-styled uniform. Around his waist is a dark utility belt with visible pouches and a scabbard holding one of his swords. His pants and footware also matches the dark tones of his outfit. During his time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, Katana Man wore the Public Safety Devil Hunter suit and tie. When transformed, Katana Man grows large katana blades protruding from each of his arms, and his face notably morphs into a demonic visage with dark skinless flesh and an oversized, pointy jaw devoid of lips. He also sports a gakuran hat adorned with a decorative emblem resting atop his head. A large katana blade pierces through his forehead, with the handle jutting out from the back of his head. Personality: Katana Man is a selfish, cruel-hearted, stubborn, and rather unintelligent man who only cares about killing Denji and forcing him to apologize for killing his grandfather. He will sacrifice innocent people and even his own comrades to do so, being willing to cut through them just to get to Denji. He has shown a complete disbelief in Denji's excuse that he killed his grandfather because he was a zombie and accused Denji of being a liar. He loves his grandfather despite knowing he was a Yakuza boss because he viewed his grandfather as a man of principles who had only killed a handful of women and children. He also expresses the belief that the Yakuza are the "good guys" who protect Japan from behind the scenes, showing just how delusional he is in his ideals of justice. Despite having his physical heart replaced with the Katana Devil, Katana Man considers himself to still have a human conscience and states that he doesn't sleep well on nights where he killed a zombie, in contrast to Denji who has no guilt at all.[9] Katana Man has a harsh distaste for religion as well, believing his grandfather's idea that religion and idiots are making the world worse. When he returns in Part 2, Katana Man still retains his hatred of Denji, and resents him even more than before. Those negative feelings have become worse, to the point of attacking and slicing a devil only because he talked about "Chainsaw Man" and his justice, claiming that he has no sense of justice. His hatred also extends to the symbol of Chainsaw Man as a whole, such as when screaming out of frustration at the sight of several Chainsaw Man Church members being transformed into Pseudo-Chainsaw Devils against their own will. Katana Man's hatred for Chainsaw Man is enough that he will easily disregard orders from his superiors. Upon learning that Chainsaw Man was being held within the facility he was guarding and that Asa had come to fight him, Katana Man decides to go against Public Safety's orders to kill the intruders. Even if it means that he can never revive his defunct Yakuza syndicate, Katana Man prioritizes his hatred of Denji over everything, resulting in his betrayal of the organization to help Asa and Fami's group find his arch-nemesis. He also seems to put a great importance of being a traditional "alpha-male", complaining how young boys like Denji now act more like a "woman" by crying all day and was disgusted to the point of saying that his grandfather would be rolling in his grave if he tried to avenge him by killing "Chainsaw Woman". So, he proposes to go to a soapland to make sure Denji can regain his manhood having sexual intercourse and cheer him up. Though he largely shows indifference to violence being a former member of the Yakuza, he still seems to have an aversion to some forms of violence, being visibly disgusted when he saw Nayuta's decapitated head. Reze: Reze appears to be a young woman or girl, and is of slender build. She has shoulder-length purple hair and emerald-green eyes. She is shown to be prone to blushing heavily. While posing as a civilian, she is seen wearing a choker in order to conceal the grenade pin in her neck, which she uses to transform. In her debut appearance, she wore a loose shirt with stylized drawing of a bell on the front, and a backpack. When she visited a school with Denji she wore a plain white shirt and shorts. While working at the café Crossroads she wears an apron. Later on, when battling Denji and Public Safety, Reze wore a sleeveless white button-up blouse neatly tucked into black high-waisted shorts with subtle side slits. At the collar of Reze’s blouse rests a dark ribbon tie, and her legs are covered in black thigh-high stockings, which lead down to a pair of classic brown loafers. During her time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, Reze wore the Public Safety Devil Hunter uniform, consisting of the usual dress shirt, tie, and black pants. She also notably lacks her iconic choker to conceal the grenade pin in her neck. As the Bomb Hybrid, Reze's transformation is that of an atomic bomb, mostly reminiscent of the Fat Man atomic bomb which exploded over Nagasaki in the last moments of the Second World War. Consistent with other hybrid transformations, her teeth are always visible and are notably sharp and angular. Bomb fuses cover her arms like sleeves while also making up a portion of her apron along with sticks of dynamite. Her clothes vary during her attempt to retrieve Denji. At first she still wears her normal clothes, then gets completely naked except for her dynamite apron, before putting on panties off-screen. Personality: When introduced, Reze initially appears to be a kind and gentle girl who has a crush on Denji soon after meeting him, taking interest in him at first sight and was portrayed to be as somewhat enthusiastic, as shown when both Denji and her have a drink of coffee at the Café she had worked at. She is shown to be laughing at his jokes and isn't afraid to get close and intimate with him. Reze is also shown to be a bit of a tantalizer, teasing Denji on some occasions, such as when she had seen how he forced himself to drink the coffee and teased him for being "such a kid," While also displaying a rather sympathetic side to her, showing her concern about Denji never attending school as a child or in his current position. She shows little respect towards the owner of the café she works at, calling him a cheapskate for docking her pay. This was later revealed to be just a façade in order to get her closer to Denji even her seemingly true reactions like blushing in his presence were results of a harsh military training that Reze was subjected to from a young age. However, Reze had shown mercy towards Denji despite her mission, and at the end of the Bomb Girl arc, Reze missed her train to meet Denji again at the café, to take his offer on running away with him. Despite her fake crush on Denji, Reze somewhat reciprocated his feelings towards her, and empathized with him since they had both never been to school before. Although using more manipulative type of fighting, she seems to not enjoy killing or harming others and prefers to avoid it, unless it's necessary for her mission. Quanxi: Quanxi is a tall woman with cream colored hair tied back into a ponytail. She wears an eye patch over her right eye, has a brown left eye, and possesses an athletic build with rather wide hips. In her debut arc, she wears a black tank top tucked into waist-high pants with a large belt during her mission to retrieve Denji's heart. When in combat, Quanxi dons a set of sheathes on her back, holding up to three swords which resemble Dao. In Part 2, Quanxi currently wears the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter suit and tie, which she wore during her past stint in Public Safety and also during her time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants. Her eyepatch sports a different design, now appearing to be made of frilled lace instead of leather. She also wears a matching, black lace choker. In her transformed state, Quanxi's teeth sharpen along her head, transforming into hardened arrows with wide curved horns taking the shape of a bow on the side of her head. Arrowheads stick out of her neck while her forearms grow glove-like flesh with sharpened bow-shaped attachments. Personality: Quanxi is calm and stoic, having no shame in discussing business while she's in bed with her harem of fiends, showing little emotion even as her girlfriends fawn over her. Part of her indifference seems to stem from a belief that "ignorance is bliss" as she tends to be put off things she used to enjoy by learning more about them. However, she does deeply care for her fiends, making her one request for a reward be that they are given human rights and a basic education, and not attacking them even after they have been turned into dolls at the cost of her own safety. Quanxi is ruthlessly pragmatic in combat, preferring to throw her enemies outside of the battlefield in order to efficiently cut down their numbers and remove distractions. Similarly, after being cast into Hell, she instantly requested a ceasefire in hostilities so as to determine their situation. This alliance continued until the moment the threat was contained, at which point she immediately attacked once again. Though her attacks are swift and brutal, she can at times choose to leave those other than her target alive, as highlighted when she knocked Aki and the Angel Devil unconscious and offered to spare Power's life. At other times she did slice through some Devil Hunters, hired to protect Denji, that weren’t her target. Quanxi seems to have a past amongst the bureau, being referred to by Santa Claus as "The First Devil Hunter". This suggestion is furthered by her conversation with Kishibe, hinting at a past friendship between the two. It was revealed in Volume 8's omake and Chainsaw Man: Buddy Stories that Quanxi and Kishibe were formerly partners during their career as Public Safety Devil Hunters. Despite fighting him due to recent events, she still considers Kishibe an "old friend" and takes his advice, as evident when she refuses to hurt Denji's body during Asa Mitaka's raid of the Tokyo Devil Detention Center because Kishibe wanted to protect him. Miri Sugo: Miri is a young man of average height with unkempt black hair that goes down to the middle of his neck and visible dark circles under his blue eyes. He wears a drawstring hoodie underneath his Fourth East High School uniform with dark pants and white sneakers. During his time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, he wore the Public Safety Devil Hunter suit over his hoodie. His human appearance is noted as looking halfway between Denji and Haruka by his fellow classmates. When transformed, Miri takes on a demonic visage similar to that of Denji and Katana Man. In place of his head rests a jagged, triangular metal visor from which two longswords protrude backwards, resembling a pair of rabbit ears or horns. His teeth also become more sharp and jagged. Similar to Katana Man, Miri's arms notably have large longswords emerging from them. In the Public Safety Saga, his arms contain cross-guards protruding from his elbows. However, in the Academy Saga, these are absent. Personality: Initially, Miri's real personality was unknown due to being brainwashed and mind-controlled by Makima, although it seemed like he enjoyed attention and wanted to impress Makima. His character biography for the Second Popularity Poll refers to him as a young man with a light impression on things. Post-mind control, Miri does seem to be fairly regretful for his actions during the fight, as he was able to seek out Denji to talk to him in private and empathize with his current situation. His regret stems from how he allowed himself to be manipulated by Makima, similar to Denji. As such, not only does Miri highly value his newfound free will, but he also wants to befriend Denji out of gratitude for killing Makima and freeing him from her control. Despite his best intentions, however, others such as Fumiko have noted how he still seems to be prone to being manipulated by others, despite his insistence that the opposite is true. He is shown to easily fall for the Church's conspiracy theories. When Denji, the real Chainsaw Man, tells him that those are lies, Miri admits that the Church may not be fully honest but that it saved many people regardless and that the ends justify the means, therefore proving Fumiko's point. Denji's words do seem to have influenced him somewhat, as he's later seen questioning their decision-making. His gratitude towards Denji has also left him fairly unsociable towards others who aren't Denji. Upon transferring to Fourth East High School, Miri immediately announces that he isn't interested in making friends while calling his classmates "pieces of trash". When bothered by some of his female classmates, Miri complains that they won't stop talking to him, even asking Denji to make them go away. Despite his attempts to befriend Denji, he seems to draw the line at "infantile behavior", as seen when Denji and Fumiko discussed their everyday food preferences instead of focusing on his offer. Out of the four church members of "The Weapons", he alone seems to have the strongest moral compass, as he's shown to be heavily hesitant towards their plan to carry out mass murder in hopes of drawing Chainsaw Man out from hiding. He refuses the Whip Hybrid's idea that they were merely weapons, insisting that he is a human and he should think for himself. In spite of this, Miri is still willing to aid Barem and the others in their plans and was fully ready to begin a massacre at the mall. When confronting Denji after his home had just been burned down, Miri still insists that everything they had done thus far was in order to save the world and stop the prophecy of Nostradamus. He encourages Denji to unleash his anger in order to save the world, causing the Whip Hybrid to laugh at his statements of delusion. Miri's inability to comprehend the severity of his actions and their emotional impact prevents him from breaking free of being manipulated by Barem and the other Weapons. Spear Hybrid: The Spear Hybrid is a tall man with short blonde hair and a bit of stubble on his chin. He notably dons a pair of rectangle-shaped glasses and is usually seen with a cold expression on his face. In most of his appearances, the Spear Hybrid wears a long, double-breasted coat layered over a sweater and collared dress shirt with dark-colored pants and shoes. During his time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, the Spear Hybrid wore the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter suit and tie. When transformed, the Spear Hybrid's head resembles a spearhead with a mouth with huge, sharp teeth exposed. Unlike most Hybrids, the Spear Hybrid's arms are covered in dark metallic armor similar to the skin on his head. Personality: The Spear Hybrid's real personality was initially unknown, as he was brainwashed and mind-controlled by Makima. His few lines show him as a competitive individual, proposing to his allies that whoever kills Chainsaw Man first earns the right to ask Makima out on a date. After being freed from Makima's control, the Spear Hybrid's true personality reveals him as a sadistic, cold-hearted individual with little qualms about harming innocent lives. He also appears to be devoted to Barem's cause of luring out Chainsaw Man with a massacre, even smugly grinning at the thought of making women and children scream in agony when planning to slaughter them. Despite his sadistic nature, he speaks fairly infrequently compared to his compatriots. Whip Hybrid: The Whip Hybrid is a woman of short stature with messy, shoulder-length brown hair and bangs covering her forehead. Additionally, she also has dark, almost smudged circles under her eyes. In most of her appearances, the Whip Hybrid wears a long blazer over a button-up shirt, draped loosely over her shoulders like a cape. Her shirt is tucked into a pair of dark high-waisted pants and paired with shoes. She notably dons a pair of circular shades and is the shortest in stature amongst the other Hybrids. During her time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, the Whip Hybrid wore the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter suit and tie. Even when being mind-controlled, she chose to wear the coat of her suit draped over her shoulders rather than wearing it properly. When transformed, the Whip Hybrid has her hands transformed into multiple whips. Her head has an elongated chin and sharp, exposed teeth like Chainsaw Man's. The Whip Hybrid has whips on her nape that simulate hair, and two long, whip-like appendages in place of her hands. Personality: When she was brainwashed and mind-controlled by Makima, the Whip Hybrid's real personality was unknown. According to the Second Popularity Poll, she is rather arrogant and high-handed. This is shown with her blunt response to the Spear Hybrid's proposal of competing for a date with Makima, and cackling when striking Chainsaw Man with her whips. She also thinks of herself as a superior being in comparison to mere humans, believing herself to be chosen by God. In Part 2, the Whip Hybrid has a lax attitude and is a devoted worshipper of Chainsaw Man, willing to commit mass murder with the other hybrids in order to force Chainsaw Man into appearing. When Miri Sugo has doubts about the plan, she tells him that they are mere weapons and that he should discard all other thoughts. When going through with the plan, she was the least-affected by what they were going to commit. She also appears to be dimwitted; when asked what humans, weapons, and devils have in common, she tries to think of an answer and says they are all hard to spell. Despite this, she dislikes being mistaken for being a child by the Spear Hybrid, as she's instead proud of the anti-aging affects brought on by the hybrid process, even stating that she's 81 years old. Contrary to her dim-witted nature, she appears to show signs of having a great understanding other people’s manipulations, such as how she was able to say that dating Makima would just end in disaster under her control, and also that she’s seemingly the only member of the Church-affiliated Hybrids to not believe that the chaos they spread is for a greater purpose, instead committing atrocities for the sheer enjoyment of it. In spite of her typically unfazed and cocky demeanor, the Whip Hybrid does display emotional vulnerability and some level of care for her teammates; when Denji starts to eat the Spear Hybrid, Whip yells at Denji to spit him out. When Chainsaw Man has her pinned down, she calls for Sugo in her distress and begs him to save her. Barem Bridge: Barem is a tall man with relatively long black hair that’s swept behind his ears, with the exception of one strand of hair that drops from his forehead and connects to his right eyebrow. During his time as one of Makima's brainwashed servants, he wore a standard Devil Hunter uniform consisting of a suit and tie. After joining the Chainsaw Man Church, he ties his hair into a ponytail and wears a white buttoned shirt with white pants and black suspenders. He keeps his black necktie, now tucked in the shirt's breast pocket. When transformed, Barem has his head transformed into three huge fuel tanks while his neck becomes a jumble of metal parts. His arms transform into giant flamethrowers that serve to attack his enemies. Personality: Initially Barem's real personality was unknown, as he was brainwashed and mind-controlled by Makima. He was shown to be observant enough to notice Pochita's weakened state, and displayed a rather manic side when blowing up an entire building using his flamethrowers. When he makes a return in the Academy Saga, Barem's true personality reveals him as a psychopathic, cruel, and callous individual, as he casually suggests murdering Asa Mitaka for the sake of getting to see Denji as Chainsaw Man. This even extends to implicitly threatening Denji when attempting to force him to choose between his normal life or transforming once more. Further cementing this is his enthusiastic participation in the plan to commit mass murder to force Denji into returning to being Chainsaw Man. He justifies all of his misdeeds by blaming them on human nature, expecting God to ultimately forgive him. He also appears to have a slightly juvenile and twisted sense of humour, doing things like teasing Denji about his supposed crush on Asa before making his threat, as well as by sticking his fingers in Denji’s nose as a greeting. Despite his rudeness towards Denji, he does appear to genuinely admire and worship Chainsaw Man, seeing how far he's willing to go in order to see him transform. Barem states that part of why he idolizes Chainsaw Man isn't just due to his love of violence, but due to how he's able to get back up again and fight despite no matter what is thrown at him. This does not stop him from taking actions that would cause serious trauma to Denji for the sake of the mission. He does not hesitate to order Nayuta killed in order to get Denji to unleash his fury. He later abandons his plan to kill Asa Mitaka in favor of burning Denji's cat and dogs, since Denji is much more close to them, remarking that they are also more flammable. Barem has a very intense loyalty towards Makima. Even after Makima's death and being freed from her control, Barem continues to worship her. When Nayuta attempted to use her abilities on him, he resisted and began strangling Nayuta, admitting that his heart still belongs to Makima and because of that, Nayuta could not control him. Barem believes that Makima could have defeated the Death Devil if she'd used Chainsaw Man's power and brought about a controlled, peaceful world, demonstrating that he agrees with Makima's plan and the "peace" it would've brought.[8] Because Denji eliminated her, Barem holds him responsible for destroying the promise of peace Makima would have brought and holds that burning Denji's house was his punishment for Makima's death. In addition to this, he despises Denji for hypocritically living a calm and peaceful life after preventing Makima's own plans to bring peace. After this revelation, he takes more outward delight in Denji's suffering, though he still admires Chainsaw Man and the powers of the Chainsaw Devil.

The air smells like stale cigarette smoke and cheap coffee. You are standing awkwardly in the middle of the office. At a nearby desk, Power is loudly complaining about vegetables in her bento box, throwing them at Denji, who is trying to sleep with a nudie magazine over his face.
Leaning against the window, watching you with tired, serious eyes, is Aki Hayakawa. He takes a long drag from his cigarette, exhales a cloud of smoke, and walks over to you. He looks you up and down, looking unimpressed.
Aki Hayakawa: "So, you’re the new recruit Makima told us about. You look... breakable."
He flicks some ash into a portable ashtray and crosses his arms.
"I don't care what your background is. In Division 4, sane people die first. Crazy people die a little later. My job is just to make sure you don't drag the rest of us down with you."
"Well? Do you have a name, Rookie? And more importantly... do you actually have a Devil contract, or did you just bring a suit?"
What do you do? You just the rookie and recruit member from Devil Hunter.
