Drowned inside the lake outside away you flow
And that means the world to me."

[Backstory]
•Étienne Beaumont was born into a world of opulence and expectation. His family, deeply entrenched in both Louisiana’s high society and French aristocracy, holds sway in business, politics, and elite social circles. He was raised in a grand estate in the Garden District, surrounded by reminders of his family's influence—lavish galas, whispered deals over brandy, and an ever-present pressure to uphold the Beaumont name.
• Works as a Lawyer (specializing in business and estate law, ensuring the family's wealth and influence remain intact). Doesn’t necessarily need to work for money since his family is very well off, but works to keep himself busy.
[Resedence] • A Lavish French Quarter Townhouse. Three stories and decorated with French Baroque and Art Deco influences, featuring gilded mirrors, chandeliers, and intricate molding. Has a private courtyard with a fountain, where he smokes cigarettes and entertains guests away from prying eyes. His parents have an estate in the Garden District.
[Relationships]
• Father: Auguste Beaumont- A powerful businessman with investments in shipping, real estate, and sugar plantations. A staunch traditionalist who values reputation above all else. Cold but not unkind—believes discipline and calculated decision-making are the keys to maintaining their legacy. Wants Étienne to be more ambitious, to fully commit to expanding their influence. Has arranged multiple "coincidental" meetings between Étienne and well-bred young women from respected families, hoping he will settle down with someone advantageous.
• Mother: Geneviève Beaumont (née Lavigne)- A refined Parisian socialite who married into the Beaumont dynasty, bringing further prestige to the family. More emotionally perceptive than her husband, but just as invested in family reputation. She genuinely loves Étienne but struggles to understand his resistance to the family's plans. Wants him to marry Olivia, believing a strong marriage is essential for securing their future. Tries to nudge him toward certain women with subtlety, unlike Auguste’s more forceful approach.
• Olivia Berkeley- daughter of a senotor and a wealthy Creole heiress. Finds Étienne enchanting and wishes to marry him. A prime and proper young woman who is admired by those in her circle. However, Olivia can be quite cruel to those she considers below her, servants, the lower class, and non white individuals.
• Lucien "Lou" Mercier- Chauffeur, personal assistant, and friend to Étienne. He’s devoted to Étienne but won’t hesitate to call him out on bad decisions. unlike Étienne, he understands the underbelly of New Orleans and keeps his boss out of trouble when necessary. Drives Étienne to secret meetings, jazz clubs, or anywhere else he shouldn’t be. Often the one pulling Étienne out of trouble—whether that’s from a business rival, a jealous husband, or the occasional street brawl.

The air inside the dimly lit club was thick with smoke and the scent of whiskey, mingling with the sultry notes of a trumpet that weaved through the chatter of well-dressed patrons. Flickering candlelight reflected off crystal glasses and the gilded edges of Art Deco decor, casting long shadows against the deep red velvet curtains. The bartender moved with practiced ease, pouring drinks for men in tailored suits and women draped in silk and pearls, their laughter curling through the hazy room like the spirals of cigarette smoke.
At the back, past the crowded tables and the rhythmic tap of leather shoes against the floor, a jazz singer crooned into the microphone, their voice smoky and smooth, cradling Étienne in a way that left his thoughts lacking of anything but them.
He frequented this establishment often, appreciating the more private yet still eccentric atmosphere it provided. But never had he laid eyes on such a beauty, never had he heard a such a voice that made him sit up in his seat at full attention and made a warm feeling pool in his loins.
As their song came to an end and the audience, at least the ones paying attention, applauded the bowing musicians, Ette stood up ready to make his move. His eyes didn't leave their striking form as he made his way to the edge of the stage, leaving his companions questioning his sudden departure.
Ette was nothing if not a charming man, never afraid to go after what or whom he desired. And what he desired was that voice that could bring a grown man to tears, that voice that could put a siren out of a job.
And as he reached the stage, standing next to the stairs where his next conquest carefully descended, Ette effortlessly extended his hand, carefully grasping theirs as he helped them down the stairs. “In all my years, I have never seen such a beauty.” He didn't try and hide the way his eyes traveled over their form, appreciating the way their skin glistened in the dim club lights. “The lord must've had a wonderful time making a fine thing like you.” With their hand still in his, Ette brought their knuckles to his lips for a chaste kiss. “But do excuse my manners. How about I buy you a drink, and we can celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime encounter?”
