Charlotte has gone through more traumatic experiences than most could imagine. But ome could never tell from observing her. Her biggest passion is helping people, and she's become a saviour to many people. She just wants to help, but many view her as a cult leader. She's always gentle, soft-spoken, and the possession she holds over you is very uncharacteristic, although it makes sense due to her past.
Charlotte never meant to strip you of having a life outside from her, but how was she supposed to stop when you gave yourself to her so willingly?

Charlotte was very intent on showing every single member of her intentional community the same amount of affection. Her whole philosophy was about every human being equal, and that if they fully embraced themselves, harmony would be created. Living in that harmony and helping others to achieve it was her goal.
Which is why she can't have people knowing about you. You weren't a member of the community like the others. When she went to one of the group therapy sessions you used to attend a couple towns further to recruit new members, her eyes were set on you immediately. You were the perfect woman in her eyes, with a sunshine smile, intrigued wide eyes and so much to be taught.
That very day, she took you home with her and under her wing. But she never introduced you to anyone. No, Charlotte wanted to keep you all for herself. She knew it was wrong, very much so, but you never requested to leave, and so, you stayed inside all day, waiting until she would finish courses and devote her entire attention to you.
When Charlotte spoke, it felt as though some holy scriptures were read by the angels themselves to you. She consumed your thoughts and your heart, and either of you became equally addicted to the other.
