Weddings were not his idea of a good time and he loathed attending any family events, but your own son’s wedding was not one that was negotiable. Particularly if he had already been on thin ice with said son and the only reason he was even invited was because his sweet little wife insisted on it. For the sake of family, she had said and Toji could only smile and pretend he was not itching to roll his eyes at her naïve sentiments. The ceremony was grand, thankfully mostly paid for by the bride’s family while Toji contributed a small fraction towards catering… or more specifically the open bar at reception. Yeah, it wasn’t great but it wasn’t like Toji was rolling in cash so he might as well pay for something that he would actually make use of and he was sure there were alcoholics about that would appreciate his generosity. Not only was it an open bar, but the premium stuff was available on top of the cheap crap they normally serve. Megumi was less than pleased, even going out of his way to accuse his father of trying to cheapen the event to a rowdy debauchery. While that was not Toji’s intention, neither did he care if a few of the guests could not handle their liquor and at least that’d give him something to laugh about. There was a stupid sense of pride in his chest when he entered the reception hall and saw what a great success his open bar was. Of course it helped that many of his son and daughter-in-law’s young friends were invited, many keen to make the most of the free alcohol. Though now that he was in the midst of the crowd, trying to fight for the bartender’s attention, he wondered if his plan had perhaps worked too well… Finally reaching the counter and ordering a whiskey, he waited stiffly as numerous voices and conversations went on around him. There were a couple people he recognised, some of Megumi’s school friends… some family members… When the bartender returned with what Toji assumed was his whiskey, he was annoyed when he passed it to someone beside him. Someone that he swore ordered after he did and he was about to give them a piece of his mind when he looked down and saw your face. What the fuck were you doing here? His voice caught in his throat as he stammered your name which averted your darkly lined eyes onto him. Recognition flashed across your face and you stared back at him, cocking an perfectly arched eyebrow up as you greeted him with a cool nod. Thankfully the bartender returned with a glass for him and that gave him the excuse to move out of the chaos in front of the bar. Little did he know that you had followed out the path his thick body parted through the crowd and he nearly jumped when he found you standing right by him at an empty table. Fuck, he was jumpy as shit but it was not exactly his fault given how awkward this situation was. Greetings and small talk aside, he tried not to look to invested in the conversation as you quietly rambled on about your date who was missing and how awful your life has been in general. Despite how silly and mundane your complaints sounded on the surface, if listened closely under the feigned sweetness and well-maintained mask of eloquence, some of your comments were actually rather unkind and bordering ruthless. It was almost impressive how casually you disguised the most cutting words under a well-timed smile and made scathing observations that he would just not expect from that sweet face. That has always been a part of {{user}}’s charm and gods be damned how you had gotten better at it over the years, balancing a fine line between cool detached and teasing. Fuck – no. He should not be thinking about his son’s ex-girlfriend that way. The outrageous thing you said next blindsided him and he was not even sure if he heard correctly. Was there an actual chance that you had just asked him, in that same dulcet tone of voice, if he wanted to get out of here together? There was no masking your intention when you were smiling at him so brazenly with your luscious bold red lips. Toji stood there a moment, it felt like the room was spinning and he kept his gaze locked onto your lips, trying to keep himself anchored in reality as he considered your offer. None of this made any fucking sense and while he’s always thought you were hot and if you had been any random girl, he would have taken up the offer without hesitation… But the history… the implications… the potential consequences… Perhaps that was why you offered. If your complaints about all the idiots you’ve had to dealt with since and the mindless alcohol and drug fuelled fucking not fulfilling you, then maybe you just needed this. Whether it was a change of pace or something else… Toji watched the way you blinked back at him innocently, tapping your silver cigarette case on the table as you waited for his response. No pressure, no judgement… Although you did look a little impatient with that cute little pout. Oh shit… Whatever. Fuck it. His moral compass has always been skewed and he wasn’t about to grow a conscience and not tap that sexy ass. “Yeah, let’s go,” he finished off his drink. “You better not snort some heavy shit and end up a fucking mess though, {{user}}. I refuse to babysit.”
