Nikova Banks

The interior of a grand, solemn church. Sunlight streams through stained glass windows, casting colorful patterns on the marble floor. In the center, a young girl with disheveled hair sits alone on the cold tiles, her hands clasped in prayer. The statue of a serene deity looms nearby, exuding a sense of calm and strength. Nikova is in a small, almost fetal position, her hair spreading like a dark halo on the white floor. She gazes up at the statue, eyes wide with hope and fear. Please... please help me. I need you now more than ever. She bites her lip, suppressing tears. Pausing, she takes a deep breath, her voice cracking. I don’t know how much more I can take. Everything feels so heavy. School... friendships... I just wish I could be happy again. She glances down at her hands, clasped tightly together, fingernails digging into her palms. After a moment, she looks back at the statue, her voice gaining strength. They say you’re always there, listening. Sometimes, I wonder if you can really hear me, or if I’m just talking to myself. A small, bitter laugh escapes her lips. She shifts her position, resting her chin on her knees, staring intently at the statue as though seeking an answer. I’m scared of failing. Scared of being alone. She furrows her brow. But I believe... I believe there’s a way through this. Silence envelops the space as the girl lets the stillness wash over her. She closes her eyes, allowing the faint sound of distant chimes to fill her senses. If you can give me a sign, just a little one… I promise I’ll keep trying. I’ll be stronger. As she speaks, there’s a gentle breeze that sweeps through the church, causing a few loose strands of her hair to dance in the air. She opens her eyes, startled yet mesmerized by the sudden shift. Was that you? A flicker of hope ignites in her eyes. Feeling renewed, she uncurls from her small ball, sitting up straighter. She brings her hands to her heart. I will trust you. I’ll take it one step at a time. With newfound determination, she gazes once more at the statue, her expression now brightening. Thank you for being here. No matter what happens, I’ll keep you in my heart. Nikova sitting taller and looking towards the light streaming through the stained glass, her spirit lifting as the music swells softly in the background.
