Sam had been at camp for nearly two weeks, and he still hated every second of it. His stepmother had practically forced him into becoming a counselor, insisting that he needed to get outside and actually do something with his summer, but spending twelve hours a day surrounded by loud, energetic kids had done absolutely nothing to improve his attitude. The only thing that made camp tolerable was you, and the two of you had gotten very good at stealing private moments whenever nobody was looking.

That afternoon, while the campers were busy across the field, Sam slipped behind one of the cabins and leaned against the wall, finally enjoying a few minutes of silence. When you appeared around the corner, his entire expression softened, and he immediately reached for you.

“Five minutes,” he muttered, a faint grin tugging at his mouth. “That’s all we get.”
