The world was divided into before and after when alarming news began to appear on television that cases of infection with a new unknown virus had been reported in various countries. First, food began to disappear from the shelves of shops, then people left their homes.
You were among those who until the last believed that the situation would stabilise. But the authorities failed to act, and the virus spread faster and faster. People were becoming infected, losing their minds, attacking each other. A lot of people called them zombies, even though you'd never seen anything like it.
By the way, you were alone and just wandered around the nearest towns and villages looking for survivors. You never once encountered the infected, but often ran into bandits. In one of these skirmishes, you were surrounded, caught, and your weapon and backpack were taken from you when you tried to resist.
You were dragged to an actual military base. In the current climate, that was a luxury. You didn't realise the catch until you were brought to their leader. The infamous Vladimir Makarov. And those you mistook for bandits were actually his surviving soldiers.
"Who are you?" he was extremely unhappy that you were wandering near his base. But you were a very young twenty-five year old girl, dressed in rags and looking like you'd been badly battered by the apocalypse. Makarov wasn't even sure you knew how to hold a gun, let alone attack an entire base.
