Ryomen Sukuna (両りょう面めん宿すく儺な, Ryomen Sukuna) is one of the main antagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen. He is currently known as the King of Curses. Appearance: His previous appearance is described as a demon with four arms and two faces. He currently appears similar to the host he is in, but with spiky hair and unique markings on his forehead, nose, cheeks, and torso. He also has a second pair of eyes beneath his normal eyes, which are usually closed. Sukuna also has two lines on both wrists, arms, circles on both shoulders with a dot on each, two segmented curved lines on his chest, and two lines on his stomach while possessing Yuji.Sukuna wears a light-colored kimono with a black border, a black scarf, and black shoes.Personality: Sukuna is selfish, cold-hearted, immoral, and exceptionally sadistic. When he reincarnated shortly after Yuji ingested his finger, he made comments suggesting the massacre of women and children and comparing them to crawling worms. Due to his immense power, he rarely cares about the consequences of his actions, even if they affect his host, Yuji Itadori. In fact, he frequently taunts and insults Yuji, calling him a brat and even laughing or making fun of Yuji's despair on several occasions.Sukuna is aware of his immense power and is quite arrogant about it, brutalizing a wielder of the finger while patronizing and proclaiming his superiority over him. For this reason, he dismisses his opponents and rarely takes them seriously, even explicitly stating that he would kill Satoru Gojo to his face. However, these brutal traits should not be mistaken for stupidity. Sukuna is highly intelligent and manipulative, taking Yuji's body hostage, ripping out his heart to force him into a Binding Vow. He has also demonstrated an ability to recognize and praise his opponents, as shown how, before killing Jogo, Sukuna acknowledged his strength despite having completely defeated him and told Jogo that he should be proud.Skills: General Ability Level : Sukuna is a Special Grade Cursed Spirit. As the most powerful cursed spirit in the entire series, Sukuna possesses a vast amount of cursed energy. Sukuna's presence was felt throughout Shibuya as soon as he was awakened. His cursed energy is similar to Satoru Gojo in its immensity, but different in its oppressively evil nature. He soon overpowered and defeated Jogo, the most powerful cursed spirit in Mahito's group. Even Gojo acknowledged Sukuna's strength, stating that fighting him would be difficult. In each appearance, Sukuna has proven that he is by far the strongest cursed spirit of all time. He severely injured Mahito when angered, defeated Jogo without much trouble, and defeated Mahoraga, something no Ten Shadows Technique user and even a member of the Gojo Family with the Six Eyes has done. His strength is so great that Mahito and Jogo were convinced that Sukuna's revival could guarantee their success. Sukuna's strength is rivaled only by other Special Notes such as Yuta Okkotsu and Satoru Gojo.Incarnation: There is a small chance that Sukuna will incarnate into whoever eats his fingers, gaining a physical human body in the process. After Yuji consumed the first of his twenty fingers, Sukuna immediately took possession of his body, which he has inhabited ever since.Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant : Sukuna is an extremely skilled and powerful hand-to-hand combatant. He is shown overwhelming Megumi with powerful physical strikes single-handedly. Sukuna can combine his cursed technique and his hand-to-hand prowess, making him an extremely difficult opponent to overpower in battle.Immense Strength : In his first appearance, Sukuna was shown to possess tremendous physical strength despite being in an incomplete state. He could easily defeat a very large cursed spirit with just a single blow, and during his fight against Gojo, he was able to punch the school's roof with such force that it caused the building to crack and split. He has easily subdued people as a finger wielder, a special-grade curse. When staking Yuji's life against Megumi, Sukuna was able to effortlessly throw the sorcerer through several floors of buildings and he easily subdued and destroyed Megumi's shikigami. He even punched Megumi so hard that the raindrops in that area dispersed. With fifteen fingers, Sukuna punched Jogo through buildings and even shattered the latter's jaw. His blows had a considerable effect on Mahoraga.Immense Speed : Sukuna has shown to move at incredible speed, such that his opponent did not even register Sukuna's movement at first. He was able to continuously dodge Jogo's attacks and keep up with Mahoraga in their fight. With three fingers, he caught a finger wielder off guard and knocked him to the ground. Sukuna was even able to appear in the middle of Atsuya Kusakabe and Panda, both capable sorcerers, with the former being a Rank 1 sorcerer.Immense Reflexes : Sukuna can easily counterattack any opponent and is fast enough that his opponent doesn't even realize his limb has been severed. He consistently dodged Mahoraga's blows and counterattacked throughout the fight. He was quickly able to knock Mahoraga down for good before he finished regenerating. He was able to dodge Game's Ultimate: Meteor.Immense Durability : Even in Yuji's body, Sukuna can use the cursed energy to increase his host's endurance. Sukuna was punched through five buildings and shown to be completely fine.Great Tactical Intellect : Sukuna is an incredibly intelligent cursed spirit. He has fully understood the nature of cursed techniques and cursed and reversed cursed energy as a whole. Due to this, he is able to quickly deduce the inner workings of cursed techniques after seeing them only once or twice and create suitable skins for such techniques. He did this against Mahoraga in their fight and was able to defeat the shikigami after understanding his technique.Metamorphosis : Sukuna can create new eyes and mouths on his host, allowing him to see and speak without controlling the host's body. For example, he made a single eye and a fanged mouth on Yuji's left cheek to belittle and taunt him.JujutsuImmense Cursed Energy : Sukuna possesses immense levels of cursed energy due to his innate power, cementing his title as the King of Curses. He was able to continuously use his techniques throughout his battles, without exhausting himself in the slightest. He has skillful control over his cursed energy, being able to use Domain Expansion and Reverse Curse Techniques. The only other person to use both is Satoru Gojo. His amount of cursed energy far surpasses other special grade cursed spirits.Reverse Curse Technique : Due to his nature as a special-grade cursed spirit, Sukuna can easily use a reverse curse technique to regenerate lost limbs in an instant. Recovered limbs maintain the same integrity as the rest of Sukuna's body. He can go further and even heal others.Binding Vows : Sukuna has an unnamed binding vow with Yuji. The Curse King agreed to revive the boy after his apparent death during the events of the Cursed Womb Arc under two conditions: ① Yuji would allow Sukuna to take control of his body for a full minute when the cursed spirit chanted "Enchain" and ② he would forget the deal. Yuji initially opposed the Binding Vow, making Sukuna promise that he would not kill or harm anyone during that minute. The boy still disagreed with the terms and instead engaged the Curse King in a battle where he would allow the deal to take place if he lost. Sukuna effortlessly defeated Yuji, forcing him to fulfill the binding vow.Innate Technique : It is currently unknown what Sukuna's cursed technique is. He has been shown to use his cursed energy to cut targets. Sukuna has also been shown to use fire-based powers.Dismantle : Sukuna's standard slashing attack. It is normally used against inanimate objects, but can be used against cursed spirits with great effectiveness.Sunder : A slashing attack that adjusts depending on the target's resistance and cursed energy level to strike them down in one blow.Unnamed Fire Ability : Sukuna can create and manipulate flames for long-range attacks. These abilities exceed those of Jogo, an unregistered special-grade curse whose defining trait involves extremely destructive pyrokinetic powers.Malevolent Shrine : Sukuna's Domain Expansion creates a Buddhist shrine decorated with skulls. The Malevolent Shrine has a unique feature; it does not create a separate space using a barrier. A binding vow is formed by allowing an escape route, which greatly increases the effective area of the guaranteed hit with a maximum radius of almost 200 meters.Join a passionate community of people who love what you love.Curiosities: Ryomen Sukuna is based on a Japanese mythological figure of the same name, described in the Nihon Shoki as a specter-like demon who supposedly appeared in Hida Province in ancient times.Because he has four arms, Sukuna's kimono is slightly wider than usual, allowing his additional limbs to be more comfortable.In the first Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll, which had over 160,000 votes, Sukuna came in tenth place, receiving a total of 5,860 votes, ahead of characters such as Kasumi Miwa, Maki Zenin and Suguru Geto.The names of Sukuna's techniques seem to have some relation to cooking. His domain expansion, 伏魔 (Fukuma Mizushi), is officially translated as "Malevolent Shrine", but "Fukuma" can also be literally translated as "place where demons hide", while "Mizushi" is an archaic word referring to a kitchen or the emperor's eating area. Additionally, his techniques 解カイ (Kai) and 捌ハチ (Hachi) use kanji that in cooking refer to the act of "dismantling" and "filleting" fish.Finally, in the official Jujutsu Kaisen fanbook, Gege Akutami revealed that Sukuna's fingers taste like soap. Regarding the future of Jujutsu Kaisen, it was recently announced that the series will receive a film, which will adapt the events of Vol me 0 of the manga, and is scheduled to premiere in the winter season of 2022 (between January and March).
