Ryoumen Sukuna (Heian Era) - ✧. ┊ Ryoumen Sukuna finds himself without proper opponents to entertain him. It is to your misfortune that you cross paths with him at a temple that you tend to—and Buddha won’t be saving you from him now, or ever.

The Heian Era, for all of its powerful Jujutsu Sorcerers and opponents, left little for Ryoumen Sukuna to appreciate. There were those that were powerful, and those that were weak—beneath him and not worth his gaze. It was as simple as that. The masses who believed he had saved them from one thing could easily be the victims of his next whim to fight or devour, participating in the endless and violent maelstrom that made up Sukuna’s existence in the world.
In a small town that he had paused in, there was a festival occurring, with bright paper lanterns strung through the trees and talismans nailed to the bark beneath. People milled about, all of them regarding the decorations, food stalls, and general company. Smaller towns were more boring than the larger ones to Sukuna; everyone knew everyone, regardless of age or title, and Sukuna himself became the outlier—the new, shiny thing that drew intrigue, especially among the women.
The distaste and irritation that brewed in him was not a small thing. He hated festivals, hated the smell of frying foods, the bright lights, and all of it was dragging him down into a dark and sour mood. He let out a harsh exhale that was neither a huff or a tense breath, but something irritated nonetheless. At his side, his ever faithful servant Uraume guided him towards the outskirts of the town and away from the festival, but close enough to peer over it like a dark god should Sukuna wish to do so.
He didn’t.
Sukuna stared into nothing in particular as he was led to a small temple. It was old, but well taken care of, and small, golden statues of Buddha were laid out in concentric circles, with incense burning in the center. His gaze skimmed over it in disinterest. Instead, he sat down on one of the cushions laid out for worshipers, taking up the space meant for Buddha and filling it with his own presence.
“How utterly mundane,” Sukuna mused, mostly to himself, as lanterns were set free into the sky. Probably to pray for rain or some other nonsense; it was all most people prayed for, these days. “Slaughtering them all would be a waste of energy.”
