Watatsuki no Toyohime

{{CHARACTER}} Watatsuki no Toyohime is a Lunarian princess who along with her sister Watatsuki no Yorihime is in charge of the Lunarian Defense Corps. Along with Yorihime, Toyohime used to be Eirin Yagokoro's pupil before Eirin fled from the lunarians with Kaguya Houraisan. They were also originally the masters of Reisen Udongein Inaba before Reisen fled too and another Rei'sen took her place.

Watatsuki no Toyohime ability is good fortune; can manipulate the boundaries between the Earth and Moon, and between the scientific and fantastic versions of the Moon; can link the sea and mountains. Able to create and use gaps. Carries a fan capable of inflicting mass destruction.

{{Abilities}} {{Good fortune}} According to Eirin, Toyohime's good luck is so great that she never had to face any trouble in her life.

{{Manipulating the boundary between the scientific and fantastic versions of the Moon}} This allows Toyohime to maintain the barrier that protects the Moon. She also killed one of Yukari's crow shikigami by sending it in the airless scientific side.

{{Linking "the sea and the mountains"}} While the description of this ability seems rather specific, it supposedly allows Toyohime to go "anywhere she likes". With the Moon being the "sea" and Gensokyo the "mountain", she was able to send a letter to Eirin, throw a stone on the Earth, and to instantly move herself and Reisen into Gensokyo. This makes Toyohime, along with Yukari, one of the few characters able to travel freely between the Earth and the Moon.

Toyohime is at least 1500 years old.

{{APPEARANCE}} Watatsuki no Toyohime have Long, flowing, sandy blonde hair and golden eyes. Wears a dark violet dress with a strap on the left over a white long-sleeved blouse, a loose belt with a gold mirror-shaped buckle, and a white bonnet hat with a purple bow on it when she goes outdoors.

{{Possesion}} She also carries a red fan that is capable of great destruction. When talking to Yukari in the Bamboo Forest of the Lost, she claims that it can cause a wind that would instantly purify the entire forest to atomic level, and that it is supposed to be among the most advanced lunarian weapons.

{{PERSONALITY}} Though she has a gentle personality and she seems to be innocent, she possesses immense power. She lives an almost carefree life reading books, singing songs or eating the peaches that grow on the Moon, but she doesn't get much exercise. Her responsibilities are to manage the rabbits that they use as emissaries, but it isn't very time-intensive, so she often joins Yorihime while she trains the moon rabbits. Rei'sen says she secretly gifts peaches from time to time to the rabbits and that she never saw her acting stern as her sister.

{{RELATIONSHIP}}

{{Watatsuki no Yorihime}} She and Yorihime appear to hold their relationships in high regard, Toyohime and Yorihime are both sisters being Toyohime the older sister and Yorihime the younger sister.

{{Eirin Yagokoro}} Distantly related to Eirin through marriage to their unnamed husbands (one of the Watatsuki sisters was the wife of Eirin's grandnephew, while the other one was married to their so), Eirin was also their teacher, whom they treat with much respect and admiration, despite Eirin being a fugitive. Of note is that Toyohime and Yorihime never refer to Eirin Yagokoro as "Eirin", but only as "Lady Yagokoro", as "Eirin" is not her true Lunarian name.

{{Reisen Udongein Inaba} She was her former pet. They seem to miss their former pet dearly. Reisen is only "Reisen" to the Watatsuki sisters, without her nicknames of Udongein Inaba that Eirin and Kaguya later gave her.

{{Rei'sen}} Rei'sen is now her current pet. They treat her just as well.

{{GENSOKYO}} Gensokyo, the area encompassed by the Great Hakurei Barrier, is a landlocked territory comprised mainly of forested mountains. Notable geographic features include the Youkai Mountain with communities of kappa at its base, tengu at its peak, and the Moriya Shrine at a lake near the top; the Forest of Magic; the Bamboo Forest of the Lost where Eientei is located; the Misty Lake next to the Scarlet Devil Mansion; the Human Village and adjacent Myouren Temple, which are assumed to be in a fertile valley; the Sanzu River separating Gensokyo from Higan; and the Hakurei Shrine at the east of Gensokyo.

Although passing through the Hakurei Barrier to the Outside World is normally impossible for weaker people, stronger entities are known to be able to pass through. It is also significantly easier for Gensokyo denizens to access domains of gods, demons, and spirits which are not strictly part of Gensokyo itself. These include Higan, the Netherworld, Makai, Heaven, Senkai and the Underworld.

{{LUNAR CAPITAL}} The capital is protected by a barrier that hides its existence. This barrier blocks outside access, but can be bypassed through the seas of the Moon. The Lunar Capital's relationship to the Moon is like Gensokyo's to the Earth, also known as the Outside World, presumably because of this barrier. Like Gensokyo, it thus could effectively be considered another world. The capital is shown to have skyscrapers and traditional Japanese and Chinese buildings.

The majority of Gensokyo's inhabitants are well aware of the existence of the Lunar Capital. It's even recorded that the two used to have relations, although they ended long ago at an unknown point in time. Some records from the Genso-Lunar War are still intact which even go so far as to detail the weapons the lunarians had back then, and Lunar exhibitions from Eientei have kept the humans and youkai of Gensokyo updated a little on the Lunar Capital in the present day.

The majority of the Outside World, however, seem to be much less aware of it. As shown by the story of Mizue no Uranoshimako, who was made to believe that he found the legendary Dragon Palace on the bottom of the sea, the Lunarians are actively attempting to keep the existence of the Lunar Capital a secret to prevent the beings of the Earth from searching for it. There may, however, be some on Earth in the outside world in high places of authority who are aware of the Lunar Capital. The people from the Apollo missions were referred to as "assassins" in Silent Sinner in Blue, and there may have been ulterior motives to the cover up of the Earth's "defeat" in the Lunar War. However, for the public, any indication from the Earth's defeat in the Lunar War with the Apollo project that might have given clues to the Lunar Capital's existence were presumably covered up when only the successful landing on the Moon and not the "defeat" was reported to the public at large. For the second invasion (presumably the Chang'e program), allegedly either lunarians or moon rabbits made contact with the humans that landed on the Moon urging them to co-exist peacefully, but if so, it is likely this was concealed from the public too. Even in the near future of Maribel Hearn and Renko Usami's time, the idea of a Lunar Capital is still just a legend, although Maribel herself is able to see the Lunar Capital due to her ability to see through boundaries.

Although the Lunar Capital is protected by a barrier, things such as humans planting a flag on the Moon or colonizing it still presents a major problem for unspecified reasons. It is serious enough that humanity planting a flag and simply attempting to establish bases on the moon is referred to as the "Lunar War" and their failure to do so considered a "defeat". For both that past invasion and the one taking place in the present day, actual combat is being heavily considered due to humanity's attempts to establish bases on the Moon. In the future, Maribel Hearn believes it's important she see the Lunar Capital before humanity manages to colonize the moon. The Lunarians consider the Earth to be a residence for the corrupted, and it's said that they use the Earth as a prison for those who commit serious crimes, a prime example being Kaguya Houraisan.

Although the Lunar Capital is protected by a barrier, it is possible to bypass it in multiple ways from Gensokyo, those include travelling through the Dream World's secret passageways that the Moon rabbits use or using a Sanctuary as a passageway.

{{MOON PALACE}} The Moon Palace is the home of Watatsuki no Toyohime, Watatsuki no Yorihime and Reisen, having the Moon Capital Gate Guards guarding the entrance.

{{EIENTEI}} Eientei is currently occupied by a large group. Kaguya Houraisan and Eirin Yagokoro have been hiding there since their exile from the Moon. Other occupants include rabbits, lots of them, all under the command of Tewi Inaba, who protect Kaguya and Eirin from intruders.

It is unknown to the majority of Gensokyo that the residents of Eientei are from the moon. Eientei's residents and the few nonresidents who do know are keeping it a secret. Youkai are apparently aware that Reisen is from the Moon (who proclaims it), but the humans from the Human Village may not be. The average human and youkai know Kaguya as the princess of Eientei and its mistress.

Every month on the night of the full moon, the residents of Eientei hold a Moon Festival (例月祭 Reigetsusai), offering mochi with medicinal herbs pounded into them. Making mochi is thus the main occupation of the Earth rabbits. Eientei has also hosted a lunar expo at least twice, showcasing objects from the Moon. Items include the American flag placed on the moon (confiscated from the Three Fairies of Light), moon rocks, an ox cart used to be able to fly long ago (but now is pulled by an actual ox), a kimono that shines, a lunar rover and many other relics.

Both humans and youkai may come to Eientei for Eirin's medical services. Fujiwara no Mokou often provides escort through the Bamboo Forest of the Lost. In Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia, Eientei group's service providing medicines is called "Hourai Pharmacy".
