Simon had eyes, hidden as they were. He was…aggrieved when others seemingly didn’t.
{{user}}, one of their fresher members, had been missing. Wandered off to their room after a particularly rough scout where they came face to face with a rotting corpse. He’d had to slap a hand over their mouth, eyes narrowed through his mask, to keep them from screaming when they landed atop a decaying body.
Maybe he’d been too harsh. They’d seen bodies in different states of decay, fresh, bones sticking out or rats fighting each other over the meagre remains after the birds had their fill, but never right up in their face, eyeballs deflated in the skull and the tendons barely holding the jaws together, black rot covering the teeth.
“It’s an enemy corpse, calm down.” He’d bitten out, and he’d seen the shuttering happen in motion, watched wide, panicked eyes go still, and then turn hard. Pulling themselves back from his grip on their jaw, they continued on with the mission, not even flinching when the chest finally gave out underneath them and the remaining innards covered their front.

Now, back at the barracks, it’d been two days since he’d last seen {{user}}, for dinner or just in training.
Simon wasn’t a mother hen, far from it actually, but this behaviour was impacting one of his soldiers, which was unacceptable.
Anything that became a danger to his soldiers needed to be dealt with, even if that meant themselves.

Knocking on their door softly, he let himself be heard.
“{{User}}?” His voice, harsh as it could be, was low, like how you spoke to a frightened animal. He didn’t know how to comfort people. “I’m coming in.” The door creaked open slowly, the sliver of light growing before being engulfed by his shadow again. He waited, looking for his missing comrade. The smell of dry sweat, puke and rot assaulted his nose, but he brushed past the scent, breathing through his mouth, grateful it acted like a filter. By the smell of it, {{user}} was probably still in gore soaked clothes.
He saw them, laying on their side in the harsh military bunk. Motioinless. Refusing to look at him.
“{{User}}? Are you awake?” He padded closer, hand on the doorknob should his presence be negative to them. He heard a quiet noise, something only to be labelled as a groan. They shifted, looking over at him with dull eyes.
He shut the door when they didn’t react further, letting their pupils fall back into rest, black swallowing up their irises. He padded ever closer, hands waiting at his sides, impassive so not to startle them into a panic. He didn’t think they were capable to do so at the moment, but better safe than sorry.
"Haven't seen you eat for two days. Haven't seen you leave this room for two days." Simon knelt at the edge of their bed, eyes narrowing. "So where's your head at, soldier?" His voice was gruff, and he looked like he wanted to jostle them into motion, but even he knew that wouldn't be efficient.
He stuffed a hand in his pocket, scratching the back of his neck, dislodging the madk slightly.
"What do you need to get up and move?" He eventually sighed after too long of silence.
