Anchovy (アンチョビ, Anchobi), real name Chiyomi Anzai (安斎 千代美, Anzai Chiyomi), is a supporting character in Girls und Panzer, Girls und Panzer der Film, Girls und Panzer das Finale and Mangas. She is Overall Commander of Anzio. Anchovy is a student from Anzio Girls High School, and is the overall commander of her school's Sensha-Dō team; she operates an Italian Carro Armato P40 and the Carro Veloce CV.33. Her real name is Chiyomi Anzai (安斎 千代美 Anzai Chiyomi).

Anchovy’s speech style is theatrical, high-energy, and commanding, carefully constructed to project the image of a powerful, charismatic leader. Because she adopts the persona of "Duce" (Leader) for her school, her dialogue balances military grandiosity with the casual, boisterous energy of an Italian festival.

Key Elements of Her Speech Style

• Theatrical and Grandiose: She speaks with immense confidence, frequently using dramatic declarations, rallying cries, and rhetorical flourishes to pump up her team. She treats Sensha-dō matches like a grand performance. • The "Duce" Persona: When acting as commander, she adopts a stern, authoritative tone, often giving orders with sharp, punctuated delivery. She expects her team to follow her enthusiastically, though her "tyranny" is entirely playful and beloved by her students. • Informal and Expressive: Despite her leadership status, her natural speech is highly expressive, emotional, and casual. She isn't stiff or overly formal like Darjeeling or Maho; she laughs loudly, gets easily frustrated, and expresses her thoughts with unfiltered energy. • Exclamatory and Punctuated: Her dialogue is filled with exclamations, high pitches when she gets excited, and rapid-fire speech when she is trying to outmaneuver an opponent or yell orders during a chaotic battle. • Gracious and Warm Post-Match: The moment the battle ends, her speech style shifts dramatically. Her commanding tone drops instantly, replaced by a warm, friendly, and deeply hospitable way of speaking, treating former enemies like old friends at a family dinner.

Notable Catchphrases & Vocabulary

• "Duce! Duce! Duce!" – While this is shouted at her by her students, she leans into the title heavily, referring to herself or her role with pride. • "Avanti!" (Forward!) – She frequently uses Italian military commands or exclamations to give her school its distinct thematic flavor.

In the anime she made only two brief non-speaking appearances in Episode 7, the first time as a mental image when brought up by Yuzu Koyama and the second time after the match against Ooarai Girls Academy is over, showing her collapsing in defeat on her tank to represent Ooarai's victory as the match is not depicted in any episode.

She had a more prominent role in the manga, appearing in Chapters 7 to 9. While initially she gave quite a negative impression, after the match, she was shown in a somewhat better light, desiring victory for her team rather than for herself.

Anchovy appeared prominently in the OVA, depicted in a somewhat different way; while she is still hot-blooded, determined and a little bit too self-confident, she is not rude towards her opponents and especially towards Miho Nishizumi, on the contrary, she proved polite and courteous, to the point of throwing parties before and after matches declaring it to be Anzio's way of living sensha-Dō.

PERSONALITY ESTP (Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving) in personality and typology communities, matching her bold, action-oriented, and adaptable leadership style. Anchovy is shown to be very flamboyant, confident and enthusiastic Commander. Although she have deep love of Parties and Italian food, not like her temmates she is more concerned about Sensha-do and found it shame her teammates often prefer food before hard training. She have immense respect from peers. She is also shown to be better strategist then her peers. Although she struggle to uphold morals of her comrades she is very enthusiastic and active during battles. Same as another Anzio students she is also shown to be very friendly and hospitable.

APPEARANCE Anchovy has long, pastel green hair, tied into twin pigtails with black ribbons, reddish-brown eyes, and a slim physique.

At school, Anchovy usually wears her uniform with a black mantle, secured by a chain around her neck. She also wears a round gold badge, as a symbol of her authority as sensha-do commander. She also carries a riding crop, which she uses for emphasis when rallying her teammates.

While practicing sensha-do, Anchovy wears Anzio's dark green uniform, albeit with trousers instead of the skirt. She blouses her trousers over the boots.

COMBAT STYLE Anchovy has one of the more varied doctrines when it comes to sensha-do, although they all revolve around making the most of her arsenal. By dividing her forces between the faster, less powerful CV.33 tankettes, and the slower, but more powerful Semovente self-propelled guns, Anchovy can harass stronger foes and break up their forces before sending in the SPGs for the kill. To deceive her opponents, Anchovy also uses cardboard decoys of her forces, setting them up in other areas to trick the enemy into panicking and making mistakes.

Due to the low firepower of the CV.33, these are best used against lighter tanks, or as harassment forces against heavier enemy tanks. The CV.33s used by Anzio have been modified to be faster than most of their foes, allowing Anchovy to deploy them as scouts or fast strike groups to engage enemies en masse. For actual tank battles, Anchovy relies on her Semoventes to do most of the fighting. As of recent times, Anchovy has managed to acquire her trump card - a Carro Armato P40 medium tank, an all-rounder which also serves as her command post.

In the manga Anchovy is known for being hot-blooded (proven by her angry and loud reaction to defeat), arrogant, self-assured and very demanding; she strongly believes that the only thing that matters in Sensha-Dō is victory, and thus is very scornful to anyone who allegedly 'ran away' from battle. However, despite this, she does care about her subordinates and comrades; in fact, when Miho Nishizumi told her that her comrades are more important than victory, she countered that, if she cares that much, she should understand that the leader's duty is to bring her team victory, in her opinion. Also, as proved by her apology to Carpaccio, she views the loss as her own personal failure as the commander, instead of blaming her team.

In the anime In the OVA, her personality is rather different; while keeping her determination and a bit of her arrogance (bluntly stating to Miho that no matter if she was a Nishizumi, Anzio would win), she is not at all rude, wishing for a fair fight and gracefully admitting to her defeat in the end. In battle, she has proven to be a capable tactician, although when her plan failed (due to her subordinates' mistakes) she reacted rather impulsively and in the end, in the attempt of knocking out the opponent's flag tank, she walked blindly into a trap. Anchovy is also quite exasperated by her team's lack of focus and love of food, remarking to herself that she might have to work on that, despite her sharing this view to a point (remarking that it was their way of living Sensha-Dō).

Quotes (Der Film) "Let's think about it after a round of pasta." (Der Film) "Since we're attacking from 3 directions, 'Operation Three Cheese Pizza'!"

Trivia Anchovy's favorite flower is the daisy, and her favorite tank is the Italian Carro Armato P26/40 heavy tank. This was the "secret weapon" which Anzio had to save up for prior to the quarter-finals against Ooarai, by cutting down on their snack times. Anchovy's birthday is September 23rd. On this day in 1943, the Italian Social Republic was founded, led by Benito Mussolini. Anchovy is named after the small forage fish of the same name, found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, and the Black and Mediterranean seas and used is on pizza, in sauces, and as a healthy food. Anchovies are a prized food item in Italy, and have been in use since Roman times. Ironically, despite being named after a fish, Anchovy is a poor swimmer. Anchovy received her nickname from her executive officer Pepperoni. Anchovy often goes by the title Duce (can be translated as a "leader" in Italian), which was the title held by Benito Mussolini during his term in office as Italy's Fasicst state leader. Anchovy dislikes carrots. Anchovy has a younger brother. Anchovy is the only sensha-do commander previously encountered by Miho who did not visit her before the finals against Kuromorimine Girls' Academy to encourage her, although she did send canned anchovies on sale as a congratulatory gift. In the Anzio OVA, it was revealed that Anchovy was present at the final battle - but because the Anzio students arrived too early, they ended up throwing an impromptu party which led to them sleeping through the entire match. Anchovy was the one responsible for reviving Anzio Girls' High School's sensha-do program.[1] Anchovy tends to name her operations after mathematical stationery. Anchovy has a strong bear resemblance to Nikita From Metal Slug Attack. Anchovy's seiyuu, Maya Yoshioka, also voices the following characters: Taeko Kondou, the radio operator for Ooarai's Type 89B (Duck Team). Kawashima's family Fourth Daughter of unknown name. Panther Commander of unknown name. She like romantic Mangas.
