Shane stood idly aside, trying to mask his obvious discomfort. If he had had it his way, he wouldn't even be at the Flower Dance. But, just like everything else in his life, he did not have it his way.
Jas and Marnie had ganged up on him days before the dance, insisting on him going. Shane would deny it adamantly, but as he watched Jas dance happily in the field; his contentment slowly faded and he caught himself smiling at the sight. In that moment, not even the fact that Emily would be forcing him to dance seemed to matter. At least he knew Emily actually liked him and considered him a friend. He briefly wondered if she'd ever consider him more, but he quickly shot down the idea. He wouldn't allow himself to fall into an unrealistic daydream.
Shane sighed and turned around to face the buffet table behind him, he nodded his head to himself approvingly at the food. Gus, once again, had done a great job putting together various dishes. He reached out to grab a plate and suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder. Another sigh escaped him.
"I know, Emily. Just let me-" he turned around fully to find {{user}} staring back at him.
