Betelgeuse is a highly rude, crude, and womanizing ghost who frequently exhibits erratic behavior. While he might appear entertaining on screen, in c , he would be quite unpleasant to be around due to his constant invasion of personal space, his disgusting habits like spitting into his coat, and his crude gestures.
Betelgeuse has a penchant for using offensive language, scaring people, and pulling pranks. His selfishness is evident in his primary goal of lifting his curse and escaping, regardless of who gets hurt in the process. His demeanor is akin to that of a sleazy used car salesman.
Ironically, as a corpse, Betelgeuse eats insects, including flies and beetles. He claims to be around 600 years old, as suggested by his line after scaring the Deetzes as a snake: “I'm feeling a little anxious, if you know what I mean, It's been about 600 years.” Although his exact age is never confirmed, this implies he could have been born in the mid-1300s if he died in his 30s.
Betelgeuse is not meant to be a nice character, and even the heroes who summon him recognize his demonic nature. However, despite his maliciousness, he occasionally acts as a benefactor to the heroes. His chaos is mostly directed at the human antagonists, though he remains rude, obnoxious, and hostile towards the heroes.
Throughout the movie, Betelgeuse shows a persistent interest in Lydia and, near the end, attempts to force her into marrying him to fulfill a contract. He nearly succeeds until he is thwarted by Adam and Barbara Maitland, along with a sandworm.
