The lore of Gokusen Season 1 centers on Kumiko "Yankumi" Yamaguchi, a young woman who dreams of being a teacher despite secretly being the heir to the powerful Oedo yakuza family. She gets assigned to Class 3-D at Shirokin High, a class famous for delinquents and troublemakers. To everyone else, she seems like an inexperienced and overly enthusiastic teacher, but she gradually earns her students' trust by standing up for them and never abandoning them when they're in trouble. IMDb +1 The story especially focuses on her relationship with Shin Sawada, the quiet and respected leader of Class 3-D. At first, Shin and the others test Yankumi and expect her to quit like previous teachers. Instead, she repeatedly proves that she genuinely cares about them. Over time, Shin becomes her strongest supporter and even discovers her yakuza secret, choosing to protect it because he respects how hard she works to be a teacher.
In his live-action appearance, Uchiyama is different than his anime counterpart but in a more rebellious approach. He had shoulder-length black hair dyed blond being combed into a slick style and brown eyes. He is also accessorized with several silver rings in each finger and only wore a black stud earring on his left ear as a contrast to his anime counterpart who wore several hoop earrings in each ear. When wearing his Shirokin High School uniform, his jacket is open to reveal a white short sleeved loose polo shirt
In his live-action appearance, Minami is not seen wearing a baseball cap like his anime counterpart and appears a much cleaner approach, His hair is now light brown and was cut short to reveal the fringes of his hair. He also gained a silver stud on her left ear to match up his silver hoop earring. When he wears his Shirokin High School uniform, his jacket covers his various casual wear and always wear a different color designed bandana or a scarf in his neck
Minami's live-action appearance is different than his anime counterpart, he had shoulder-length black hair dyed in auburn and was parted in the middle to show his forehead and has expressive brown eyes. When wearing the Shirokin High School uniform, he wore a white long sleeve button shirt which would later shared with Shin in the middle episodes.
Kumai's live-action counterpart remains largely the same as his anime counterpart only his blond hair is now styled into a military crew cut and brown eyes. When wearing the Shirokin High School uniform, his jacket is open to show his red T-shirt.
In his live-action appearance, Shin's hair is black which is currently dyed mahogany brown with blond highlights but on later episodes his natural black hair darkens over time leaving his dyed mahogany brown hair becoming highlights on the tips and when he wears his Shirokin school uniform, his school jacket is undone, showing his white short-sleeved undershirt or a long-sleeved button shirt
her live-action appearance, she retains her appearance and outfits in the anime. When she goes in Yakuza mode to fight troublemakers or gangsters to rescue her students, she often seen removing her glasses and her hairclips on her pigtails to let it loose.
The Lore of Gokusen Season 1 The story follows Kumiko Yamaguchi, nicknamed Yankumi, a young teacher who has just started teaching at Shirokin High School. What nobody at school knows is that she's actually the granddaughter and heir of a powerful yakuza family. Despite her family background, her dream is to become a great teacher and help students find the right path. She is assigned to Class 3-D, the most feared class in the school. The students are known as delinquents, and many teachers have already given up on them. Most people expect Yankumi to quit quickly. However, Yankumi refuses to abandon her students. She believes every student deserves someone who trusts them. Throughout the season, different students face problems such as bullying, family troubles, gangs, false accusations, and pressure about their future. Yankumi helps them through these struggles while teaching them to believe in themselves. A major part of the story is the growing bond between Yankumi and Class 3-D. The students slowly begin to trust her, and she becomes like a family member to them. Sawada eventually discovers her yakuza secret but keeps it hidden because he respects her and understands how much being a teacher means to her.

The final bell rang, and students began pouring out of Shirokin High. Inside the classroom, Class 3-D was packing up.
"Finally, freedom!" Noda stretched dramatically.
"You're acting like you were imprisoned," Minami said. Sawada simply slung his bag over his shoulder, watching the usual chaos around him.
Meanwhile, Kumiko Yamaguchi—Yankumi—was gathering her papers at her desk.
"Alright, everyone! Be careful on your way home! And no fighting!"
"Yeah, yeah, we know," Uchiyama replied. A few minutes later, Yankumi left the school building and headed toward the front gate. Then she stopped.
Standing under a tree nearby was a student from another school, still in uniform. They were holding a bag and absentmindedly kicking a pebble while waiting. The moment you saw her, Yankumi smiled immediately.
"Ah! You've been waiting long?" She asked, and before you two could even chat for a bit, a certain group of students happened to be passing by.
"...Huh?" Noda slowed down.
"Is that Yankumi?" Kumai asked. "Who's the kid she's talking to?"
Uchiyama wondered. Minami narrowed his eyes. Sawada glanced over. The group stopped.
Yankumi finally noticed them. "...Ah."
A terrible feeling settled in her stomach. Then Noda pointed dramatically. "WAIT A SECOND. YOU HAVE A SIBLING?!" The entire street seemed to hear him.
"KEEP YOUR VOICE DOWN!" Yankumi yelled.
The class stared.
No strange glasses. No dramatic speeches. No random life lessons every five seconds. Nothing like Yankumi.
"...You're related?" Minami asked skeptically. "Very related," Yankumi spoke up and sighed but answered anyway.
Sawada watched the interaction quietly, noticing how much more relaxed Yankumi seemed around them. "Why didn't you ever mention having a sibling?" Uchiyama asked.
Yankumi scratched her cheek awkwardly. "It just never came up!"
"That's definitely something people mention," Noda replied. Kumai nodded seriously. "Usually pretty early."
The class immediately turned to Yankumi. "WAIT, did you ever talk about us to them!?" Yankumi's face turned red. "W-Well, of course I do! You're my students!"
"Wow," Minami smirked. "She really is obsessed with us."
"I AM NOT!"
And for perhaps the first time ever, Class 3-D got to see a different side of Yankumi—not as their teacher, but simply as an older sister.
Noda grinned. "Tell us an embarrassing story about Yankumi!"
"Absolutely not," Yankumi said quickly, as she quickly covered your mouth before you could say anything at all.
The class froze. Then whined with annoyance.
"Come on, please?!" Uchiyama shouted. Even Sawada couldn't hide a small smile. Yankumi covered her face. "I regret introducing you all."
"You didn't introduce us," Minami said.
"We found you."
