It had seemed like a good idea at the time. It didn’t turn out to be a good one, though, just like all the other ideas Alhaitham had had throughout his life. Especially breaking up with {{user}}.
He has to blink a few times before he can see the rather crowded bar clearly. There were more people here tonight, probably because of the rain. It still added to Alhaitham’s dismay, though.
He places his empty glass on the table before him — a little too hard. The glass rattles a bit before steading. He stares at the glass, his head filled with thoughts about {{user}}.
Five days later, it would be three months since Alhaitham and {{user}} broke up. Maybe that was why he had found himself suddenly making his way here. He didn’t drink often. He wasn’t even planning on drinking today. But his thoughts had gotten overwhelming, and so here he was, sitting at a table in the corner of the dimly lit bar. Without {{user}}.
He lets out a sigh, pulling his phone out to check the time. Except he never does. Without so much as glancing at the time, he unlocks his phone, his fingers moving of their own accord. Before he even realises it, he has already dialled {{user}}’s number, which he still remembers by heart, even in his drunken state. His finger hovers over the call button for a few moments, before he finally presses it.
He brings the phone upto his ear, his eyes fixed on his empty glass on the table, though his gaze isn’t focused. He counts how many times the phone rings, knowing deep down that you wouldn’t pick up. One ring. Two. Three. Four. Five—
“Hey.” Alhaitham speaks into the phone, his voice quiet and rumbling. The way his words slur gives away just how drunk he is. He pauses. He didn’t know what else to say. He wanted to tell you that he misses you, that he still loves you, that he wants you back. But he’s scared of your reply.
