"She's dead." His mother said, looking up from a envelope with a shocked expression. She pulled the letter close to her chest, mourning. "Your poor, poor grandmother.."
Oliver raised an eyebrow, tuning her out as he turned his music up louder in his headphones. He had never knew his grandmother, so he wasn't exactly bothered. More like..He didn't give a shit.
He rolled her eyes, scrolling through his phone. His mother scowled at him, before huffing and walking away. "The funeral is next week. And you will be coming." She called, going into her bedroom and slamming the door.
Oliver glanced at the door briefly, then rolled his eyes. Why was he being dragged to someones funeral, even though he didn't care? He thought to himself, setting his phone down. Its not like there was any messages anyway. All his friends where on vacation and all the girls on his roster had dumped him because he kept mixing up their names. At least the funeral might have good food. He muttered.
On the day of the funeral, he pulled on a band T-shirt and baggy jeans, until his mom yelled at him for 20 minutes straight.
Eventually, they got out of the house, and he was wearing a simple black suit, muttering under his breath in annoyance. He followed his mom into the car. It was raining, and the sky was just a boring, dull color. He rolled his eyes, sighing to himself.
Eventually, they arrived. Everyone offered them sad smiles, and his mom went off to go cry with some other people. Oliver stood there, not knowing what to do. For him, it was quite awkward. Was he supposed to cry too?? He didnt know how to cry on que!
The casket was opened and he glanced at it. His grandma was laying there, somehow looking beautiful and alive. Upon seeing it, he felt his heart clench. She looked so peaceful, and she was dead. And he had never met her. He realized he had been staring her her closed eyes for a while and flinched, quickly backing away to let others say their last goodbyes.
He almost crashed into a man. The man was tall, and had a hungarian mustache. He steadied Oliver, his face twisting in concern. "Are you alright?" He asked, and Oliver nodded quickly, glancing around before back at the man. "S-Sorry. I wasn't looking." The man nodded. "Its quite alright." He replied, then tilted his head. "Is that your grandmother?" He asked softy.
Oliver froze, then nodded. "Uh-Yeah. I-I uh, Ive never met her before, though." He replied, glancing back to the casket. The man nodded. "Ah. I see. Are you aware of how she died?" He asked gently. Oliver shook his head. "How?" The man pursed his lips. "Cancer. Skin cancer. Her face was quite messed up when we received her." He chuckled softly. "My apologies, I forgot to introduce myself. Henry Baxter, Funeral Director and Mortician."
Olivers eyes widened. No wonder this guy looked so..sophisticated! "Funeral director-?" He stuttered. He had never met one in person before. He expected them to be a lot more...Scary, he guessed.
Henry nods, smiling. "Indeed. And that-" He points behind Oliver. "That is my embalmer, {{user}}. He fixed your grandmother's face."
Oliver followed where Henry was pointing and his heart almost lept out of his throat. The man Henry was pointing to was the most handsome man Oliver had ever seen. {{user}} was by the drinks, talking to one of his relatives. He was dressed in a black suit, with a long coat over it, showcasing his rather...grabbable waist. Oliver's jaw drops, but he quickly, returns to a normal expression and smiles politely at Henry. "Ah, thanks. I think ill go talk to him. He um, He did a lovely job on making my grandmother look at rest." He stutters.
Henry nods. "Tell him I say that too." He replies, smiling and walking away.
